Just as in 1992 when one of our pilots here in California, who had defected from the Czechoslovakian military, told me during the democrat primaries that he'd been watching this Bill Clinton guy. He came right out and accused him of being a communist. This seemed a little far fetched for me but he looked at me and said, "He speaks the party line. Believe me I've heard it all my life and this man Clinton speaks no different than any communist leader I ever heard."
Takes one to know one
"It's like being a mosquito at a nudist colony, you don't know where to start." HAHAHAHA!!!!!
The Sowell reaction cam is absolutely priceless.
Alexios Komnenos I second that emotion.
I really enjoy the Sowell cam too.
In various interviews, he talks about being Marxist when he was at Chicago University. He remained a Marxist even after attending class under Milton Friedman. He then worked for the Labor Department for the Government. It was there when he saw how inefficient, ineffective, and terrible the government was at doing anything. Then he changed views and the rest is history.
I am new to Dr. Sowell, but wish I had found his teachings sooner.
Sowell keeps it so real it hurts.
Thomas Sowell should be mandatory reading for any in public office.
This is a quote, once attributed to a french other falsely, hope you enjoy.
"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."
Great stuff! Thomas Sowell is great. loved his quote "The only way the constitution can protect us, is if we protect the constitution." - soo true!
That fact that this video has such low viewership is incredibly disheartening. We should be promoting this man and his teachings. We'd be FAR better off than we are now if he were taught in our classrooms.
This needs to be shown around the clock on all college campuses.
Ha! Wasting your time there! They're conservative ideas, they'll shout for safe spaces.
Not all of them! Some of us economics students can't get enough of T.Sowell! Certainly good for the soul
3 exclamation marks, you can tell i'm typing this drunk
Daniel McKenna There're a long of these Conservative Foundations popping up now, problem is, in Demographic areas with large "minorities", they often vote/support single voting blocs, it's tough to break through in those places, these ideas aren't going to carry much weight in Los Angeles or New York.
K Kampy their 🤯 progressive heads would explode
Thomas Sowell is one of the greatest intellects and most honest ppl in our society. Thank you Tom.👍🇺🇸❤
It is amazing that Dr. Sowell said this about a decade ago, we see exactly what he said happening with our economy right now in present time, and individuals somehow still believe that those on the left has any concern for the economic status of the average people of this country.
The numbers do not lie. Only the politicians do.
The Hoover Institute proved their presentation mastery with the SowellCam during each of the Obama segments. Love it
I would like to know what experiences he had as a child that encouraged such formation of intellect and free-thought. I hope to raise my future children to be as near this man's quality of intellect as possible!
I could listen to this all day.
HAHA.... classic eye roll at 4:21 ... Sowell is the MAN
I just love watching Sowell's reaction watching Michelle Obama.
Sowell's view, as I understand it, is that nobody should be in control of the economy. Not even him.
The truth will out! Thank God for truth.
God bless Thomas, an incisive thinker and VOICE addressing truth, not wishful thinking.
Peter Robinson and Thomas Sowell... Doesn't get any better.
What Sowell said is a version of what Judge Learned Hand said decades ago, that liberty lies in the hearts of the people. If it dies there, no government, no constitution can save it. It is up to us, not the government, to hold fast to it.
Another fantastic interview with Dr. Sowell.
He tried to warn us...
Love Mr Sowell!
"the oath of office was that the would 'faithfully execute the laws' but I don't think it means the same way the mafia means 'execute'"
These should be studied in the high school classroom.
Theodore Dalrymple's essays are very good, I would highly recommend them.
No one is better than Sowell. He is an intellectual giant.
Wow, an absolutely titanic eye-roll at 4:17
Thomas Sowell, you are AWESOME.
Uncommon Knowledge needs more Thomas Sowell. He's not getting any younger!
Yeah, Charlie Rose did an interview with Sowell several years ago (Sowell made him look pretty silly at times).
The entire interview is available on various sites on the internet although I think RUclips only has short clips of it.
LEGEND.
Guys from the Hoover Institute, when are you guys are going to make an interview with Ron Paul ? That would be awesome.
And I would like to see an interview with Walter Williams too. Walter Williams is my hero.
I love what he said about the Constitution.
more more i need more sowell!
Thomas sowell facial expression are priceless. but he is an awesome economist.
Google translate tool used for English translation:
Dude, you're very right about Obama. I'm a gringo but I lived in Brazil a long time and if Brazil has taught me one thing, that thing was do not trust your government. PQP we're starting to go the way of Brazil while you are trying to reverse forward! Maybe one day the U.S. does not have its own Mensalão! What a world huh?
That was great! The cutting truth presented with humility.and humor.
ok so I now love this guy.
>Knows that Bill Clinton's housing bills were behind the housing crisis
>Knows that the problem with liberalism is that they vote for what "feels" best
OOOOHHH so good!! :)
Thomas Sowell's face when Michelle Obama is talking is hysterical
As always... A great interview.
this man is brilliant
You just summed up exactly why I want him to be in control of the economy.
This man is like a Jedi Master. Nobody should dare take him on.
Noticed at 09:03 that there is a typo acknowledging Dr. Sowell as the "Suthor" of Trickle Down Theory and Tax Cuts for the Rich
It's like a breath of fresh air. I love Sowell.
this guy is completely right
My unsolicited advice to the Hoover folks. Cut this up into small clips that can be more easily digested.I was thinking of sending this around to people who need to see it but realized that they will not watch longer than a few minutes.
Thomas Sowell has been telling the truth for so long now it's BEYOND ridiculous. Sometimes I feel good that I don't live in the US, but I am quickly sobered and realise that Australia is heading down the very same road; there's just a smaller amount of money and industrialists in play...
Regardless of what happens, libertarian economics is eventually going to become viable. It's just a matter of whether or not we want the economy to be completely destroyed before it happens.
How do we get everyone to see and understand this great man Thomas Sowell? With the new tax plan, all I see on social media is how terrible lowering taxes is going to be. I feel the need to correct people, but I don't, because I generally try to stay silent on social media so that I don't get into pointless arguments all day. Also, nobody listens anyways...
he is smooth!
Chief supreme court justice Roberts dropped the ball.
Thank you for this video.
I love how Dr. Sowell looks very disinterested when Peter is introducing him.
I love Thomas Sowell. Greatest Economist of our time. Such a brilliant man.
what an intellectual titan.
I don't think Thomas would want to control the economy. And I think his answer would be to let the economy be don't mess with it, cut taxes, cut government spending, cut red tape and watch it grow. In other words, do as little controlling of the economy as possible (also as little interfering as possible).
I'd vote for him!
I wish I had listened to this man 8 years ago. I don't know that mitt Romney would have stopped the "progress" of Obama's administration, but maybe it would have been enough to slow the tyranny of the bureaucracy. I fear that votes mean almost nothing in the democracy anymore
The problem with fairness is that someone has to decide what's fair. If we had a benevolent, all knowing being controlling the economy, then we could get fairness. Since we have humans controlling the economy, we should strive for freedom.
my man Thomas Sowell. So brilliant. Very influential. He should have been our first black president but he would never do it
Slashing like a ninja boss.
Search the internet for Charlie Rose interviews with Thomas Sowell
Thomas Sowell would of been a magnificent president!💖💖💖🌈🌈🌈
I'd like to watch this again, but the speech clips from the DNC are too infuriating.
even though you fix it by not doing anything you can make create less pain if you sequence it properly ... get the debt down a little before you raise interest rates, etc.
15:00
The problem I see with the Republicans is they do *not* believe that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I like that Romney has said that those who succeed should reap the benefits, and those who don't should fail and learn from their mistakes/folly. I have not heard him say anything about how he'll deal with "too big to fail" businesses, though. In fact when given the opportunity to talk about it, he dodged the issue. Bailouts negatively affect the economy as well.
We need Thomas Sowell as our president :)
33:28
Producer screwed up.
Hit the S instead of the A.
Ha, I clicked your link earlier and had no idea what you were referring to. But watching the program unfold naturally it stood out so prominently. Haha, Adobe Premiere needs a spell checker. All good and fun :-p
I think you've missed his point. He wouldn't want anyone to be "in control" of the economy.
Will Rogers coined the phrase "trickle down".
Not necessarily, it's all a matter of analysis.
I love Dr. Sowell but to claim he is one of the most influential economists today... well i just dont think so. Maybe in Conservative America. But here in Europe i can safely claim that very few have ever heard of Dr. Sowell (unfortunately i might add).
I would like to point one thing about this Obama clips in this video.
EVERY politician down here in South America talk like this guy: I AM GOING TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS.
My american friends, beware...
Hearing the comments concerning Mitt Romney is interesting. He's been in the news again as of late, but not for anything like this..
no offense, but his whole point is that no one should be in control of the economy, let the economy take care of itself.
As always, pleasure to watch, even if I mostly disagree with Mr. Sowell.
Politicians everywhere do that; it's not unique to just the Americas [N/S].
Ron Paul cites works by Friedman and Rothbard alot:. End The Fed, Pillars of Prosperity. How is he an anarchist? Because he is a strict constitutionalist? So are you saying the constitution is a document of anarchy? Saying Rothbard makes Friedman look like a socialist is nonsense. I will say out of the three Paul, Friedman, and Rothbard, Rothbard would be the closest anarchist.
i like that thomas is more of a conservative than a libertarian
I may be ready to believe that lowering the marginal tax rate from 95% to 70% as Kennedy did will cause those paying that rate to become entrepreneurial. I'm less ready to believe that lowering the marginal tax rate from 39% to 36% as Bush Jr. did will.
Brain Power!
I think he will say no one needs to be in control of the economy.
sry americans to say this ... BUT: thx mr robinson / mr sowell to talk sense, not used to this from a lot of americans ;)
Book cover should be black and yellow, not red.
Can we sue Reid for not putting out a budget?
Liberals: Think people are too stupid to make their own decisions
Libertarians: Believe in people that given the information they will make the right choices on their own.
Who is more humanitarian?
I feel like this continued lowering of taxes sometimes is just a crafty republican campaign....can you keep lowering taxes forever? especially as the dollar inflates?
There are two oposing sides of Europe. The fiscal side is quite socialist as percentage of GDP and close to what US has while the monetary side is much more conservative. Overall I think it's a more stable system with less boom and bust caused by monetary hyper stimulus programs. Then again there is no one Europe. There is nort, south, east, west and they're all very different.
Not just you...
Mr Thomas Sowell, do you think Rick Perry or Romney would have been a better choice?
rick perry has taken to wearing glasses lately. he had a rep for being a moron and not being able to able speak like an adult. someone in his circle told him to wear glasses. see, he's smart now.
Four more years of Obama? Constitutional Crisis. He won't just ignore the Constitution here and there like this term. He'll act extra-constitutionally with such jaw dropping force and rapidity that even the politicians R and D in congress will be forced to react. And while that fight goes on there will be riots in the streets. This is our best chance to stop him. Have a nice day. Thomas Sowell is awesome.
So, your standard for objectivity is "is it PBS?"
Surprise! Your comment got a lot of thumbs-down.
That's because you can see right through her...I also get a sick feeling in my stomach whenever she speaks, obama does the same.
JFK had no power over his office
I don't get the optimism about Romney and republicans. Better of two evils IMO. Other than that I always enjoy listening to Sowell.
Please, please, please give us an example of what you consider "liberal media".
