OMG YES!! It is a portrait image that STAYS with one. I, like yourself, remain appreciative and mesmerized when awe gazing upon it...because it is so lifelike and powerful in capturing* the impact we were privy to witness and understand. Now years later from childhood; I have the ability to share with you the imprint it has remained too, and that* is so equally just wonderful! 💚*🙏

Firstly educate yourself and homeschool your chdren. Remember they are only as strong as we let them be. When I began to genuinely love myself, they became less important to me.

So many memories. My dad is going through dementia but when I was young he and I loved Roots. We watched the original, recorded and bought the series and next generation, and also watched Queen. Such an amazing and powerful show that affected me as a child and even now as a 39 year old.

Well, half the story is fictional and Alex Haley stole the story from somebody's else novel called "The African" l think. Alex had to pay a lot of money the creators where he stole some of the story and main characters of Roots and Queen.

So much History in the Cast. Lloyd Bridges (Evan Brent) admitted he was scared he'd be marked for cupability (blame). Lynda Day George (Anne Reynolds Sr.)admitted that she had no close black friends but she had nothing but admiration for their bravery. Robert Reed found the Selling of Kizzy hard because he had given up his Parental Rights to his daughter because he was ashamed of being Gay and growing up in a Small Farming Town in Iowa he had to hide the fact he was Jewish. His real name is John Robert Reidz. Chuck Connors (Tom Moore) apologized to Leslie Uggams (Kizzy) for how bad he was to her on the show, and to this Day Sandy Duncan admitted she may have been the most hated Actress because she was so convincing as Missy Ann. She was spat on, even her Grandmother thought she "was" her and she says to this day she never saw the Full Miniseries, it's still too painful. She also saw what it was like to be a Visible Minority since a large majority of the Cast was Black. Ben Vereen admitted that when they were filming in 1976, it was America's 200th Birthday and he said "It's not fair, Whites came here as future Citizens, we came here as Cargo." Needless to say it's a Masterpiece. Now Celebrities do their Family Trees and discover that many of them "Owned" Slaves at least their Ancestors like Ben Affleck. Cheryl Ann Tweedy of The UK Group Girls Aloud did her Roots and discovered her Ancestors lived in deplorable housing and she lived in a Council House aka Low Income Housing Project. I still remember when the cast Members made a Cameo appearance at The Emmys and Olivia Newton John acknowledged Roots as a Landmark TV Special.
You also had four actors who played against type. Ralph Waite as the slave trader, Robert Reed as Master Reynolds, Lorne Greene as John Reynolds and Chuck Conners as Master Moore were all popular television father figures in the 60’s and 70’s and all played despicable racists which helped make this so effective.
What is the benefit of showing this in schools? All you well do is make white kids feel guilty for something they didn’t do (or cause some to become fascinated with the idea of slavery) and cause black to get mad about something they didn’t experience. It needs to be left for Adults to study if they so desire.

That cast list always gets me choked up. 🕯 🕯 🕯 As does the ending collage sequence at the end of “the next generation.” I was 3 in 1977. And it was just as big when they re-aired it when I was 5 or 6 on network television 📺. It might as well had been brand new! Everyone was glued to TV.
I was 10 when Roots premiered and I came mostly to see O.J. Simpson (that was long before all of his problems). Of course I loved the series and watched the whole thing that week.

But these people don't know that they will just teach future generations the mistakes of the past, because these generations will never know the truth. I know that the N-Word is a filthy word. It might be the most filthy word in the english language. But just ignoring and censoring the fact that people used it in the past won't bring us forward. We need to learn from these things to better ourselves and only then will we be able to understand each other, be it black, white, latino or whatever ethnicity you are part of.

In their 60 Anniversary Coffee Table Book they did a chapter of Guiding Light Alumnae and acknowledged her. The UK Soap Opera Coronation Street did a line in which a Character named "Eva" said "I Got Moore Roots Than Kunta Kinte Whoever He Is". This created an uproar since it was the 40th Anniversary of it's telecast and they had to apologize. Catherine Tydsley who played Eva never watched Roots and had no idea and was very embarrassed.

"Kunta Kinte." "Your name is Toby. What is your name?" "Kunta Kinte." "YOUR NAME IS TOBY. WHAT IS YOUR NAME?" "Kunta Kinte." Never let the man beat you down, ever.
The theme music is hauntingly beautiful. I remember seeing this as a young girl and I remember getting goosebumps hearing this piece of music.

I was bummed out that the remake didn't have the original theme song.
The remake lacked in a lot of areas the original shined in. I can’t think of anything about the remake that was better. The original was perfect.
There should have never been a remake. The original was outstanding.
The mural opening originally ended with AN ABC NOVEL FOR TELEVISION and the cover of the book rising up.
