Campaign 1: doors are the only thing that can stop us Campaign 2: furniture is scary Campaign 3: so this is my new friend, hes a door. He has a name! I gave it to him. He likes his name.
If I had a nickel for every time Liam had a character with a strong connection to Keyleth who made a deal with a godlike entity that controls fate to gain the power to protect his friends in return for his servitude, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice
That's wild, essentially it renders the trust exercise they did previously kinda useless in my opinion - just more secrets and martyr complex - but of course it's fun for the drama and stuff oh well let's see how this unfolds :D
@@richardhood5235 i think Mori made a point of stating how everyone was in varying degrees of health. She (Matt) added a 'return as you are" clause, so the Laudna fine print is kinda moot. But I could be wrong.
And with this episode now everyone has an appropriate title. Chetney Pock O’Pea: The White Wolf of the Savelier Woods Laudna: The Last Wraith of Whitestone Fresh Cut Grass: The Metallic Saint of Choices Fearne Calloway: Flaming Queen of the Feywilds Imogen Temolt: Empress of the Psychic Storm Orym of the Air Ashari : Soaring Blade of the Tempest Ashton Greymoore: the Primordial of Possibilities
I deeply love the confidence of Nana Morri so much that she sees the uncertain weave of fate and is like "these guys are 100% killing Predathos and I want a piece of it"
@@LoryK98Right? Like, until Predathos is gone and the moon is back in place, the weave is constantly under pressure. They've got to take him down to save magic. (also the gods, I guess)
@@oldfrendi mean, he has been building up predathos being the main bad end game since like episode 20. He is the final boss, lud8nus being just the appetizer for them before having to face off against a god eater/destroyer.
@@zelenoye From the blog post announcement: "After 8 years of pouring our hearts into our work and being one of the premier sources of third-party Critical Role information from live play-by-plays to collected data sets to digestible lore to encounter strategies to any other random fancies that crossed us, this will be the final quarter of CritRoleStats. As of January 2024, our team will say goodbye to the site and all the responsibilities we’ve taken on. We’re all completionists at heart, but despite our stubbornness, there was always a point where we had to recognize when we were ready to move on." The website will stay up, 'frozen' from Jan 1 on, and they seem confident in their ability (because of fan donations) to keep it running 'for as long as it remains relevant'.
I genuinely hoped that maybe critical role as a company would purchase critroll stats or somehow bring them under their wing as part of the official lore division or something like that but looks like they're not going to
Now THAT would be a worthy challenge for high intellegence/Wisdom character groups in TTRPG's! An unpickable door that you have to convince to let you pass.
@@eric_moore-6126 I am betting on a loophole. Something along the lines of "They all have to retrune alive, yet some of my friends were already dead. Look at Laudna over there.." PS : I am 20 episodes late on CR so PLEASE so spoil
@@anatoleleconte9698 I believe Laudna is why Morri kept changing it from alive to something they could likely agree was equivalent. That said, she also wanted it to be _see it through_ rather than simply returning. Time may tell
My daughter just introduced me to the world of D&D and we've been marathon watching every episode of Critical Role starting with Campaign 1. Today we watched for 11 hours. Love it!! Matt is an incredibly excellent and talented DM. This is so entertaining and love the cast so much! You guys are incredible!
In realms where tales and dice align, Where heroes gather, spirits entwine, Matt's guiding voice spins tales so bright, Sam's jests and laughter, pure delight. Liam's wisdom, a wizard's grace, Laura's fire, a fierce embrace, Ashley's calm, a soothing balm, Marisha's strength, a steadfast calm. Travis stands with valor bold, While Taliesin's mysteries unfold, In this Christmas tale, their spirits sing, Joy and friendship, their greatest thing. Through dungeons deep, on quests they roam, Their bonds of friendship, a cherished home, In this festive hour, hearts take flight, Merry Christmas, in this radiant light.
SPOILERS: (Theory) Orym: These need to be worded very carefully. Imogen said. Orym's deal: Every member of Bells Hells makes it back from the moon alive and I will serve you instead. Laudna: *is dead and always has been.* Liams doing a Jester.
It could be that Orym is pulling a Jester, though I question if that's Liam's intent as it feels like a mirroring of Vax and the Raven Queen. I also wonder if Matt would accept that loophole and rule it as such
@@pascal6871the deal was ‘every member of the bells hells comes back alive’ since laudna is a member, she’d have to come back alive to fulfill the deal
Orym's deal with the Morrigan was infinitely more reckless than everything Ashton has ever done. Dude didn't even set a term for his indefinite servitude.
Have you seen Sagas of Sundry? SoS: Dread has Matt and Taliesin, SoS: Madness Liam and Marisha. They were extremely innovative shows (not the very first episode, the rest) and the reason a bunch of us would really really love for Ivan van Norman to run Candela at some point. (all on youtube if you search a bit)
@@gadgetronking4255 She's a grifter. Got exposed as a real bad person. Wouldn't pay ppl for their work on setting books. BUNCH of people cut ties with her. So yeah there's some absolutely valid reasons to want a nothing to do with her or the content she comes about with. She's trash.
I discovered Critical Role with The Legend of Vox Machina and I'm now catching up with campaign one. I jumped to this video out of curiosity and HOLY SHIT. The formula is so much more refined even though I'm still feeling the same energy which is incredible considering you've been doing this for 8 years and still visibly caring so much, if not more, and putting so much passion and excitement in this show. So that's it. Just wanted to pop here and say thank you and love you all! From a newbie Critter. Can't wait to be all caught up!
Boring, 2 hours to come up with this…..and forced bounding is pretty bad! Hey we are just 81 episode in c3, they didn’t hav much time so far to know each other :()
I completely forgot about Avanash, too funny. Brennan has such a talent for coming with with incredible on the spot NPC's. The best part of Avanash was Mike Trapp being so done with every interaction with him. "Are we really listening to this guy?"
God I love Liam’s character choices, even though they destroy my heart. Also, rewatching and seeing how pumped Travis and Marisha were during that scene is hilarious
56:00 Marisha: “You could become wood. It’s your dream.” Somewhere, in another dimension, a chaotic entitled, wooden marionette warlock who’s chewing bubblegum and drinking whiskey gets a migraine.
Chetney meeting Pinnochio sounds like a crossover made in HEAVEN. In Neverafter's setting, stories are their own universes, so somewhere in the Auroratory, the entire story of Critical Role is writing itself.
I will never not love the fusion of matt’s DM narration with Liam’s PC narration. an excellent combo and one that i appreciate them always allowing when RPing together.
I love how respectful Morri is towards her door. She is seen as a terrifying creature that turns people to stone if they don't uphold their deal yet she respects her doors decision and agrees with Sir Pushpull
If only Vox Machina had Chetney on their team. VM: How do we get thru this locked door? Chet: Talk to it, give it a name and it will open automatically. Problem solved.
Yeah, I think it will be a double-edged sword. ^^ He might be very well known, but not positively. Then again, Chetney might not mind? Idk, we will see
I mean....you know a 50% Chance of making him be viewed unfavourably. But that other 50% he might just become talked about.....I mean probably not but hey
@@kingskelett6265 I reckon it'll depend on how he fulfills his part of the bargain. If Predathos is humanoid and he rolls up with its head one day, I can see her giving him exactly what he wants. If he tries to get away with a technicality, maybe it wouldn't be as positive. Hags are all about bargains and collecting things, the thing she's asked for would usually be enough for a hag to just grant whatever was asked
The idea of him having to severely limit every single description he says to remove all prose just because they'll giggle at even the most tenuous innuendo connection is absolutely hilarious
Chetney making a deal to be the most famous toy maker in Exandria - my bets are that’ll come true, but he’ll be famous for something other than toymaking (like being the one to take ludinus down for example) Or maybe he’ll be famous for something stupid 😂
Merry Christmas to all my fellow critters. And Nanna is absolutely horrifying, enticing and I think Chetney just sold his soul for something....not quite sure yet. But knowing Fearne, she'll steal it from him! If she hasn't already embraced the "dark side of the Force"!
The best part was when matt was describing the storm with his lightning and thunder sounds, actual lightning struck and thunder sounded as a storm was brewing here. Wild!!
Watch campaign 2! He did it first there with an angel named Yasha. Absolutely epic. Wish these characters connected with me like my least favorite of campaign 2. Which is Yashs. And I love yasha! Not as connected with this campaign's characters. Can't wait until c4
Not gonna lie, that entire scene of Chetney trying to make a deal with Mori gave me the same kind of vibes as Polnareff trying to make a wish from Judgement. This shit had me on the edge of my seat!
She’s more like Nightmare Scarecrow…. With a flaming butler monkey. Psi Dorothy, mini me Tinman/Pinoccio, a Halfling…. Munchkin, The semi undead Wicked Witch, and a werewolf Gnome cowardly lion…
Not relevant to the actual content of the episode at all, but as someone who has been slowly working through a rewatch of C2, I wanna say a belated thank you to whoever decided to start putting the episode numbers back in the video thumbnails for C3 (maybe Laura? She’s in charge of the thumbnails, right?). It’s a little thing, but the lack of them for most of C2 can be kind of annoying at times, especially since the episode titles are long enough that the numbers at the end get cut off on mobile a lot of the time.

I thought he was helping his old employer to become Santa Claus. Now with that deal he's throwing him under the bus and possibly ruining him after helping him.
"Nobody suspects a baby" is one of the funniest things I've heard across 3 campaigns, and there's been a lot of hilarity throughout. That hit my funny bone just right lol.
That would be smart but at the same time it would block a possible future arc that could be really fun for the player. Imagine Delilah taking control and returning, that would be a reaaaly neat arc to watch.
On the one hand its incredibly endearing and cute how everyone at the table is trying to push Taliesin and Ashley to have their characters get it on. But on the other hand they are trying a little too hard and having the opposite result.
I know, I don't know if they realize it's having the opposite effect. I'm on board with Ashton and Fearne getting it on, I like their dynamic, and it seemed like we were possibly going to get a taste of it here, but the rest of the table is egging them on too much and end up steering them in the wrong direction. Let them be, pleaaaaaaase, I want to see if they will or they won't.
Agreed. I actually feel the same way about viewers/Critters shipping players. People wanted Laudna/Imogen to be lesbians literally from episode one without letting it happen organically, doesn't surprise me the cast wants Fearne/Ashton to bone immediately.
I feel more sibling energy than the other. It's like daring each other how much trouble can they get into. Kings/Queens , Emperors/Empress' can have been siblings before...
It's difficult because I think Taliesin and Ashley are the closest to their characters in terms of personality and we've seen the two actors as friends for so long it seems a little too contrived to put them as a couple.
41:06 Ashton: “I don’t do well when someone’s ginger.” Marisha: “You and everyone else on the internet.” *Campaign 1 PTSD* 42:50 Fearne: “I’m gonna need some ginger touching.” Sam: “Marisha, get in there.” Marisha: *Turns on Beauregard charm*
The deal Orym just made... he was too vague. Because I can see that as them returning from this 'recon mission' based on how he phrased it --- which from how this game plays out, means either; 1] Orym is essentially dead. [can't travel with the group anymore] 2] Going to have to fight Nana Morri . 3] Become another Vax where he is on borrowed time until Morri calls him back to their side.
A theroy: Since Nani Mori offered to ensure all Bells Hells return "As they are" but Orym made sure to specify "Alive" does that mean if the deal goes right Laudna will revive from Undeath?
Orym is on a suicide run. See the last test and wanting to get back to will. He is just here to stop the threat to the world, then his mission is fullfilled. He is not planning on coming back alive
Merry Christmas everyone. So Fearne is The Human Torch and Ashton is The Thing. Imogen is almost Sue Storm, with the Telekinesis and flight. All she needs is invisibility. That's three quarters of the Fantastic Four as doable. If you squint and give Orym more stuff similar to Seedling and it's extra reach, the entire bottom side of the table is The Fantastic Four. Is that intentional or just coincidence?
Nightmare Scarecrow…. With a flaming butler monkey. Psi Dorothy, mini me Tinman/Pinoccio, a Halfling…. Munchkin, The semi undead Wicked Witch, and a werewolf Gnome cowardly lion…
Imogen literally is Sue Storm. She has the Shadow Touched feat which grants invisibility once per long rest and adds it to your spell list, and she used it a while back, in Eyos if I remember correctly. Just a cool thing.
Where are the other gods ? Why is not a army of believer running around and trying to fight the good killer! It’s funny that the non believer are getting help by a god! It’s pretty stupid….they told us they don’t care about gods
you can see it in matts face!!! Orym making that deal hit the DM!! The DM now has to play within Liams rules! He worded it perfectly. happy and healthy, meaning everyone has to make it out alive! So now, what if a hag can't fulfill her side of the deal!?
@@Sp4rt4nSl4yaAbsorb Predathos, ascend Lady Briarwood, let her be put behind the gate with the rest of the gods, be reborn anew. Three step plan to stop being undead.
dont forget Bertrand the original founding member essentially, as well as all the others like Dorian I think it's Oryms(Liams) long play, get everyone focused on Laudna as the obvious catch to his deal but really its Bertrand, someone Nana Mori moght not immediately think of in the moment
I know it's nothing new but, I'm truly in awe of Matt. And I mean in AWE. He truly dedicates all his talents to craft a world, characters and story *for* his players. Other popular DMs are extremely talented for sure but I always feel that their priority is first and foremost the story they want to tell. With Matt I always feel that his focus is on his players and their characters and how the story and their experiences affect them which is a completely different approach.
Merry Christmas everyone! Very blessed to have found Critical Role a year ago and joined the Critter community. May everyone have a wonderful holiday and New Year ❤
This is my catch-up episode! I've been watching Critical Role for almost exactly four years now to get to this point. I started from episode one of C1 with no knowledge of the intricacies of playing D&D. It's been a fun four years of loving this cast of friends and the stories they so lovingly share with us all. Now I'll have to find a new way to fill my commutes. Maybe I'll start all over again, or at least from the Briarwood arc.
Haters gonna hate. But you're GREAT! So F em and keep being the funny, insightful, happy place I go to . Thanks for all of your hard work. You are APPRECIATED!!!
I skip over the breaks, so maybe it's a repeat and I just hadn't seen it before. But the Hallmark movie parody ad between Travis and Laura at 1:57:50 was really good, lol. I loved how they included what is probably an outtake of Laura chastising Travis. I know they've been building to this for forever, but when they arrived at the Hellcatch and were planning their assault, I was kind of like "wait, they're already going to do this? so soon??" This pacing of this campaign has been all over the place. It doesn't feel like they're even remotely 'ready' for this. However, there's another side to this problem. Matt has stated in many places, like interviews, that one of his longtime dreams was to create an ongoing RPG world where player characters and player actions informed the history of the world. Which is exactly what he's accomplishing with Exandria in Critical Role. It's finally past the payoff point, and we're seeing the results. The problem is, though, that is makes almost _zero_ sense for Bells Hells to be entrusted with anything that's going on right now. Not with all those powerful, competent people around. He tried to give the reason here that Bells Hells is 'insignificant' enough to be able to slip in, but that's largely bullshit. There's no way in hell that all of those leaders would agree to send this group of chucklefucks alone to do this monumentally important task.
I received the vax'ildan cloak, the adventure begins hoodie, and the Jrusar dice rolling box for Christmas. I am so happy. I have been watching since season two, but have seen all the episodes. Thank you critical role! ❤
Chet's unwillingness to talk about his deal and Orym going behind everyone's back and essentially removing himself from the group just completely defeats the purpose of the last 2 episodes...
Somehow I watched all EU, Calamity, EUK, and the main campaign and all of the oneshots in a few months... Time to fill the void of waiting with Campaign 2! (I'm a recent critter and this is my first campaign so I'm both honored and scared not knowing what's going to happen next immediately).
Oh god, Campaign 2? Its the best, and Im sorry you haven’t yet experienced it, its unfortunately also the longest - by far. Actually thats a good thing, because its AWESOME.
Can we agree that The Storm Lord is that homie that shows up when things need to get done, man!! i wanted to cry so fucking bad, Imogen finally had a god reach for her, if she doesn´s feel M O T I V A T E D Virgil will be disaponted for this Foolishness *cue Bury the Light*
honestly? imogen doesn’t owe the stormlord anything. he reached out to her at a time where she is a threat to him. where was he before that? his existence and the existence of all gods (and life on exandria as we know it) is in her hands now and whatever she chooses to do is ultimately her decision.
I know it’s old news, and CR has come such a long way, but it still blows my mind that our favorite nerdy voice actors now have sponsors like Verizon and meta aka face book now.
@@80AM. And also that's fine; if people find it boring they can just watch something else (instead of whining like a child on a RUclips video). It's a D&D game and its not always going to tickle everyone's fancy. It's literally impossible and to expect that is ignorant.
how is calling it boring considered as whining? pretty sure crit role are open to criticism i mean they advocate for it in their twitch chat so chill on the parasocial status bud it's unhealthy @@Prismaticlysm
MATT BUILT THE WHOLE DREAM ENCOUNTER FROM SCRATCH IN 3:11 FLAT!!!!! Details below..... 1:13:35 this mark - this is the start of some amazing tap dancing shit by Matt Mercer. He is already for them to proceed to the next segment.....but.......they decide to dream! He wasn't thinking about this possibility. He tenses for a moment.....listens for a few more seconds.....realize the direction they were going was going back into the dream.....and......boom 1:13:45 ....he is off to the races. He starts rolling dice, writing a quick outline of what they would encounters....he is pushing, checking stuff.....going 100mph in DM speed. Then, he's got it 1:42:22. He relaxes......puts his head on his hand.....keeps writing......but now he is just tweaking. Thinking lighting, thinking sound efforts....just getting ready for when they are ready. He is still working it fairly hard because when at 1:14:39 Sam is clearly struggling to get the mechanism for the assisted dreaming and normally Matt would be all over it,......instead......he's still building the encounter and lets Sam struggle on how it works. Sam still struggles on understanding how the mechanics of the spell work at 1:15:21. Matt is still not helping Sam but he does figure it out at 1:15:55. Even at timestamp 1:16:20 Travis asks about scrying through dimensions and Matt didn't hear him and didn't look up....Matt is still going!!! Finally at 1:16:46 the party is ready to go and Matt takes over again.
It very much seems to mirror Vax and his sacrifice. Though as I saw someone else theorize it could be a Jester play as the deal states they must all return alive, and Lauda is undead. We shall see...
@@davidjennings2179 its impossible for even divine resurrection currently, so I doubt he'd have even considered that, the toxin he was killed with also prevents resurrection so it's double impossible
I feel like Predathos is gonna be a Tarrasque. Matt loves his D&D icons, and it feels like the kind of creature that might require all the party members from all 3 campaigns.
I've heard this a lot, but I certainly hope not. The Tarrasque is pretty lame for the level they are tbh. They aren't really god eaters either. They're just giant, extremely powerful dinosaur titans, but I don't think one could kill a god. Either way, I really hope Predathos is at most inspired by one.
I haven't been able to properly laugh for 8 months now, everythings just felt... A LOT. I just discovered Critical Role and have laughed myself to tears every night for two weeks, this goes beyond just funny and intense campaigns for people. Starting campaign one properly this weekend, following it with the novel. Can't wait.
Laudna could make a deal to swap patrons propably, and become a warlock for the fate sticher. That would be cool and a solution to one of the biggest problems in the group.
Don't forget to pick up the crew's new holiday-themed album, "Don't Tell Travis It's Christmas," including the hit instrumental single, "The Chutcracker"!

Chetney Pock O’Pea: The White Wolf of the Savelier Woods
Laudna: The Last Wraith of Whitestone
Fresh Cut Grass: The Metallic Saint of Choices
Fearne Calloway: Flaming Queen of the Feywilds
Imogen Temolt: Empress of the Psychic Storm
Orym of the Air Ashari : Soaring Blade of the Tempest

I know, I don't know if they realize it's having the opposite effect.

I know it’s old news, and CR has come such a long way, but it still blows my mind that our favorite nerdy voice actors now have sponsors like Verizon and meta aka face book now.
They are losing viewers left and right bc c3 is boring
@@Ghostleeee That's you're opinion. Opinions do not equal fact.
it's his opinion that it's boring but losing viewers is factual@@Prismaticlysm
Did orym just multiclass into warlock?!
Can't believe they missed out on calling Fearne to be "Esseking around" when she tries out the float across hard terrain, lmao
Because Matt is the only one who gives a damn about Essek.
Damn you Liam and your perpetually tragic character choices! 😢
It very much seems to mirror Vax and his sacrifice. Though as I saw someone else theorize it could be a Jester play as the deal states they must all return alive, and Lauda is undead. We shall see...
I know, I thought his deal would be to revive his husband though!
@@davidjennings2179 its impossible for even divine resurrection currently, so I doubt he'd have even considered that, the toxin he was killed with also prevents resurrection so it's double impossible
@@davidjennings2179 he plans on dying in the predathos fight and join him in the afterlife
I feel like Predathos is gonna be a Tarrasque. Matt loves his D&D icons, and it feels like the kind of creature that might require all the party members from all 3 campaigns.
He does have a very nice mini of one in pride of place in his map room...
@@aFoolsMartyr I totally agree. Tbh I've also been assuming that if it is one, it will be heavily modified, and like 40 episodes from now.
Nana Morri is my absolutely favorite character.
Sam not knowing the lyrics to _I Will Remember You_ and just saying "Remember the memories" over and over again was great.
Calling it now, there is no conceivable way this campaign ends well for the characters.
Feeling like Critical Role's version of "Rogue One," yeah
@@curtisholsinger6023 yeah, too bad also, really into them, I got so attached to their ramshackle family
I almost want chetney end up bound into a magic chisel after this deal. Carried by a much more overgrown orym-like plant man protecting the manor.
At least 2 are going to die or end up in "fate worse than death" situations. Calling it now.
@@MammalianCreature Totally agreed, I mean they are strong but...come on, the odds are SO stacked against them.
Can't wait.
Oof, if you find C3 funny, C1 will probably just break you in half.
Welcome new critter ❤
@@tinkercat8268 Thank you!!
Laudna could make a deal to swap patrons propably, and become a warlock for the fate sticher. That would be cool and a solution to one of the biggest problems in the group.
The fact this lined up on christmas, thank you critical role for the christmas present!!!!
Is pre recorded, so what’s ur point ?
For all we know, they can record 3 games in 3 days and wait for the upload day !
Jumping ahead just because I saw some add about you guys losing viewership.
It's not gone, just catching up lol.
PLEASE DONT STOP! 💜
Don't forget to pick up the crew's new holiday-themed album, "Don't Tell Travis It's Christmas," including the hit instrumental single, "The Chutcracker"!
