That's a great video! Camping in a stone picnic shelter during a rainstorm sounds like quite the adventure. I don’t think I would be able to get myself to work after a night of camping…I would just want to make breakfast, coffee, and hang out in the shelter until lunch 😀

Haha yeah me too! The first morning after camping, I usually just wish I could hang out and chill and take it all in.

A few years ago, I canoed from Fort to Port with my father and my son. It took us 5 days. The last night, we camped in this exact shelter.

Really really nice camp. Cosy goals and a decent meal! And the trusty rain poncho! Once camped in a three sided shelter and the wind was blowing right on the wrong side, had a tarp but couldn’t find anywhere to properly secure it on the open face. Now absolutely need to camp in a three side that I can tarp. Big love Sam, keep em coming x

When I hiked a lot, I always had a couple of 10X16 tarps. They came in handy when we'd run across 3 sided shelters to tarp off the exposed side to shelter in the heat from the fires and to keep it warm inside while sleeping.

Only halfway into the vid but I had to stop and comment how damn cozy that little fire place looks in there. That looks like such a fun little place to camp and warm up with a huge fire in the cold rain. And you processed the hell outta all that firewood! 😂
Haha yep I did! Let's be honest, I was going to harvest firewood either way 😂Yeah this is an absolutely awesome spot provided by our Metropark system and the whole spot is only $30 for the night.

Sam, loved the video. Say your doing onions in the field again just add a little water or beer. It will keep the onions from burning and you'll be able to scrape all that flavor off the bottom of the pan . Cheers and banana flasks

Dude that's awesome! Yeah it defintely seems that the stove top is meant for cooking/grilling, but I had it going real strong it wasn't holding heat. Worked out fine though.
Yeah, if I remember right I finally gave up and used my canister stove. Whatever gets the job done! 👍
PS.....I know I probably say to much, but umm, it pains me as a fellow Ohioan, that your channel is soooo awfully underrated! It's just not right from my perspective! A friend introduced me to the use of a large beach umbrella to keep the wind off you in a 3 sided shelter such as this. It eorks!
Interesting idea, but I don't think I'll be hauling a beach umbrella out there 😂

Hi Sam, amazing location with beautiful scenery. It looked cold. Love the shelter with a fireplace too. Wish we had places like that here. We're not allowed to pickup dead wood around the campsite to burn. A long time ago we were allowed but then they changed it. The steak and potatoes looked delicious. I've done that too gone to work from the campsite then back to it to enjoy another fabulous night. Thanks for another awesome camp out. Say hi to Mrs. Bananas.😊

Suggestions from a retired backpacker: when your daylight is limited, make certain you spend it wisely. I would much rather forage for firewood in the daylight and do any breaking/cutting with my headlamp. Running out of firewood on a cold rainy night can be fatal. When I would go out and preplan my meals any chopping slicing or cutting was always done at home and carried in ziplock bags. Sometimes I would even cheat and bring precooked food that only required heating. On a rainy night is a great time to put up a water collector and fill up a collapsible gallon water bag. I always like to have more water than I need. Enjoyed watching you as it brought back many memories and let me enjoy being as out as I can be anymore. Especially on a cold wet night I would get out of my clothes to let them air and dry out. Especially so in that nice dry shelter. Thanks again from an old guy.
