My dog and I head up the Gunflint Trail near the BWCA on the border of Canada to do some hiking and fishing. We first have to take shelter from a thunderstorm before being surprised by incredible northern lights due to a historic solar storm.

Jack, there's something to be said about being all snug and warm in the wilderness. Looking out the window, watching it rain. Ellie really is having her best life when she is out hiking with you. Love the look on Ellie's face when she was laying in the water at the end of the hike lol She is so funny when she goes swimming and then gets out and rolls in the mud lol. Really lovely hike and better luck next time with fishing. Cant wait to see the new cabin x

I have just started watching your videos. I live in East Tennessee at the foothills of The Great Smokey Mountains! We were blessed to see the Northern Lights I think that is the first time they've been visible in this area since back in the early forties! Your video was breathtaking thanks for taking us along! I was feeling pretty down tonight. Then I saw gorgeous Ellie jump in the cold water and enjoy a swim, before rolling herself dry in the grass, with total, joyful abandon. Suddenly there was a big smile on my face, the clouds parted and the sun shone again.

The northern lights were incredible! It was nice to see Ellie again and I get a kick out of her swimming in the lake and then rolling in the dirt after shaking the water off. I'm sitting at home warm by the wood stove. It's been windy and rainy today here in Washington State on the east side.

Aw man, I thought for sure you were going to have fresh fried fish for supper. It’s like you said, there’s always next time.
Northern lights defy explanation I find. You do get them out in Saskatchewan. One time we had blue and dark pink and they danced across the sky. To me it makes God feel so close it’s like you could put your hand out and touch the night sky.
I’m glad Ellie, our favorite sidekick, was able to join you. She sure loves the hikes.

You are making me miss home. I grow up north suburbs of the twin cities. I am not in Minnesota anymore, but Minnesota is always in me. If I ever moved back, it will probably be northern Minnesota.

I grew up in North Dakota, just to the west of your lovely state and some of my fondest memories were of my brothers taking me fishing by the Missouri River or going camping and sticking my head out the tent door and watching the stars! We dont have trees like Minnesota so it gets windy, but it also means totally unobstructed views of the land and sky! Wish we had a cabin like yours though. Would have been so cool.
Ellie was sitting there at your feet, smelling that steak. I felt sorry for her because she wanted more steak. Poor Ellie. ❤️

We stayed in Grand Marais MN this weekend during the Aurora, it was so incredible! We took the Gunflint trail during the rain and sat on the beach during the northern lights! What an awesome video, it was like reliving some of the magic of that weekend for us!

A fishing tip: a short steel leader , no more than 6 inches , will help reel in those tasty northern pike that bit off your bait

You have reminded me of the years of camping up in the BWCAW/Quetico… the peace of the rain on the tent, campfires, fishing… with friends, canoes, my German Shepherd, creating the most unique cuisines (always with the bits of insect protein…)the Peace of reading in the rain, sketching of the rocks water & trees! Thank you for sharing another of your calming adventures & rekindling some of my most happy memories. Back in the early 1970's a friend & I took our families from Indiana to cabins on the Crow Wing lakes up there every year. It was the first of many times we got to see the Northern Lights.
Also, the fishing was beyond amazing, from trolling Northern Pike to shoreline bass and crappies . We were all in heaven up there! The beauty of nature in Minnesota is simply overwheming.

Your beautiful dog is enough to melt my heart. I suppose, being a retriever, she will naturally love the water but to see her in that stream with such a big smile on her face is a real treat. Oh yes, the Northern Lights were stunning too. We don't have such a thing in New Zealand except for a less spectacular version call the Southern Lights but I'd have to travel over 1200kms and invest my life's savings to see them.
