I reckon staying in the less-frequented huts is a great idea. It makes for a more varied viewing experience and will inspire us locals to get out there more. That hut is looking a lot more luxurious than last time I was there. Nice to see they've put the bunks back in and reinstated the fireplace. Heartfelt congratulations to you and Victoria regarding the impending arrival of your new little tramper.

It was a toss up as to which was less welcoming. I could be wrong though. There's been a fair few raindrops that have fallen on my head since then - and you and I both know what camping in the rain does to a person's brain...

Interesting. I thought thar the shelter had not been well maintained and looked really shabby. The shacks in Scandinavia are clean and well maintained despite being extremely remote by comparison.
@@neilhfrancis1334 I bet it's the much colder climate in Scandinavia that has a higher priority on maintenance of the cabins. I don't think it gets as cold in NZ. so you would never be using the cabin to shelter from a blizzard, unlike the cabins in Scandinavia.

Hello Abel I realize that it takes a lot of work to get these videos out to us. I'm a Coloradean (I guess you refer to us as a "Yank") who spent 4 years of my life in a tent in our beloved mountains. Most of my camping was done at 9,000 ft. (2750 m.) The highest was 10,000 ft. or 3050 m. Anything higher and you are getting into air that is not conducive to yearly living. I know that there are Peruvians and other peoples who live at 17,000 ft. but they've been acclimated from birth. Anyways, I enjoyed my mountain living my favorite time of my life. The other 75 years were well spent but now I do my camping and outdoor activities thru' you and your wife. So, thank you so much and I'm thanking you for the filming and editing and everything else that goes into your career in RUclips. My deepest thanks.

At 78 I have arthritis and 8 titanium bolts/clamps. Thoracic aneurism. Dr’s orders do not pickup more then 50 lbs but keep moving. Pack is kept at 60lbs. Got to keep Dr happy. “ Silver Wings”😊

The hot dogs looked great too….I usually put a little butter in the pan and put my hotdog buns in the skillet and fry them up a little in the butter..then put the hotdog in that crispy buttered hotdog bum…heavenly.
Love the downpour, red shelter with neat fireplace; looked warm & cozy! Don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone enjoy eating six huge hotdogs in giant buns in one sitting before…and then down all those enormous pancakes next morning… it’s like you’re “eating for two”😜. Really enjoyed this one👍🏻

Reminded me of when I was a kid sleeping under a corrugated tin roof. A little bit of luxury while still enjoying the isolation and good food. Hey I was considering pitching tent but with that wind plus being lower in altitude with big trees not worth the risk. There are a few huts I have in mind that could make cool videos. I could probably go out in extremely bad conditions and push onto the safety of a hut with confidence. Cheers mate 🍻
@@AbelandVictoria Sometimes a man has to put his common sense into play Abel and recognise the risks associated with some daring footage. Even crossing the river could've been super dangerous on the way down had the rain persisted at that volume overnight. What you did by even getting up to the shelter was above and beyond mate. We've already seen you hurt your back and I'm sure your wife and none of your subscribers want to see you put yourself in serious harms way my friend. I personally enjoyed watching you enjoy the camp and would like to see more of the shelters that NZ offers to hikers and campers. Don't get me wrong, I love the tent camping as well. But then any type of camping is great to watch and there are a number of camping variations.

All in all, I'd say your rain gear worked incredibly! I still reccomend some knee high rubber boots (wellies, gumboots)

Crazy weather and you kept going on and on. I was glad you were in a hut. I'm also glad the roof held up 😊.
I'm sure not having to set up a tent and tarp was a nice change of pace, especially after a two hour hike in pelting rain. Enjoyed the video. Made me hungry for hot dogs though.
It was a nice change. I would have used the tent but wind and the tress was was to risky. Go have a hot dog 🌭
