I have One (dual SIM edition with ext SD slot) and my friend has S4. Have used and compared the phones. And One triumphs overall. The Touchwiz UI is packed with features but is very gimmicky. Sense 5 is more prim. And One's battery life also seems better than S4. The speed both runs smoothly and the diff is not significant at all. Daylight cam, S4 wins whereas low light One is better. Speaker sound... no arguments One wins hands down. The hardware preference depends on the user, I personally dislike the plastic hardware of S4. Both are great phones but One edges out S4.
I think that you misunderstood some stuff. Its SAMOLED that suffers from bleeding, especially the blue light, because its the longest wavelength. Audio? Beats audio is a little part of it. Ever heard of the phrase "dual front facing stereo speakers"? The ones on the one is unrivaled. HTC had trouble with the first batch of Ones, but it will improve. They just had some trouble mass producing them. So there you have it, your questions answered. Any more questions?
In fact, not only can you change the battery cover to any color/style/composite you want, but there are companies that you can either take your phone to, or send it to, that can change the entire casing. There are companies that specialize in the S4 that are reputable and make a killing. My friend has an S3 with the brushed aluminum casing and battery cover with the build # and date of the build etched on the inside of the cover.
The only thing that matters to me is the boom sound on HTC one. The rest goes to galaxy S4. Although people love how the HTC one feel in the hand because it is a solid aluminium design, but i personally prefer the plastic design of the S4. It gives user the flexibility to swap battery, sd card and you can get a new one very cheap if u scratch it by accident, on the other hand, if you damage the aluminium housing on the HTC one, it's going to cost u 10x more than a plastic back cover.
For people that have played with both do you notice the difference in screen size? Not found a shop with both in stock. I like the sound of the S4's screen size but I'm not sure if I like the look of the software/skin.
TechnoAndeh is right, an Ultrapixel is essentially a megapixel that is much larger then your traditional megapixel. It is an impressive technology, but the photos taken with the HTC One's 4 Ultrapixel camera start to show flaw as you expand them a great deal on large banners, etc. The GS4's 13 Megapixel picks up a lot more individual details, and therefore reacts a lot better to being expanded or zoomed in greatly.
Question... If there were a 20 story building, made of all metal, with glass windows, and next to it were an identical building (by appearance), but it was made with all plastic and gorilla glass 3, and there was an 8.3 scale earthquake...which do you think would still be standing? If you had the HTC and S4 on your lap in your car. You forgot about them and got out, they both fell on the ground...which one do you think would sustain the most damage, if any at all?
As far as rooting and changing the UI, don't confuse that with firmware. If your phone wasn't built with the proper firmware, it doesn't matter what software you add to it, it still won't be able to do what you intended. For example, retina detection, Group Play, all the camera features, such as the Eraser, etc., no rooting can add that to the HTC One, so you still have to be conscious of your phones abilities. Also, there have always been aftermarket brushed aluminum battery covers for the SG.
Thats the case with phones that are not running android 4.2.2. Google stopped supporting apps, videos, music on the microSD card. I believe you are referring to phones that do not run 4.2.2, like the Note2 or S3.
I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and it worked fine until I updated it to Android 4.2.2 just a few days ago. It's been lagging ever since. I wonder if there's any way to revert it back to pre-4.2.2.
The more and more i keep viewing these review videos between galaxy s4 and htc one , the more and more it becomes hard to decide which one to go for , please suggest to which one to get ( out of these two only ) , as there was no speaker test here , so which one is better in terms on camera , speaker , interface , feel , and then overall ..
hey PhoneArena, Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One are considered among the best phones, I am planning to buy one of them. So i should go with Galaxy S4 or HTC One? to which do you think is best among them?
When you use your phone, what do you experience? The software, the build, the screen and the speakers. I once found Sense4 annoying because of the animations on the software, now I find Touchwiz annoying. I am not spending my time on the home screen, ill be in apps etc. I want to maneuver quickly in the homescreen. When i watch videos, the 2 most important things are the screen and speakers. Have you heard? There is going to be a Phablet version of the One. I may give my One to my bro.
No, the 4mp "ultrapixel" camera on the htc has bigger pixels than the S4 results in slightly better low light shots, but there is a huge lack of detail because it's really just a 4mp sensor compared to S4 which has a 13mp sensor.
guys am kinda scared to get the GS4 because i know a few people who had it and it used to lag like hell, freeze at least once a day, battery drains real quick and the headset jack makes a really annoying noise and if you turned it up to 11+ volume it makes the sound really distorted !! so can anyone please help !
But you cannot put apps, music on the SD card anymore. Android 4.2.2 prevents it. People were complaining and switching to the HTC One when they bought the S4.
A few other things annoyed me with the One as well. Mainly the button layout which you get use to pretty quickly but some apps will put an onscreen menu button at the bottom of the screen which took up far too much screen real-estate. Coming from the GS3 I wanted a phone that was at least the same size or slightly bigger and more often than not the 1 felt like it was actually a smaller phone. Not being not being able to infinite scroll through the home screens annoyed me.
excuseme may i know in what a way one beats upcoming butterfly s (India)... which can perform faster b/w those two. Because i want to buy htc butterfly s... thanks in advance...
well everyone has there opinion on both of these phones and if your coming from an htc device u choice might be the htc one but if u have a diffrent phone besides a model from htc ur choice might be the samsung galaxy s4 and in my opinion i still cant decide what phone i want to get and i am a htc user and i do like the htc new features it has but the s4 is good to so please reply on which phone i should get cause honestly i cant choose
Light material such as plastic may not seem like a premium material; but, your arm and hand will feel the difference after holding it in your hands for 10 or more minutes.
Ultrapixels is a marketing term. It's a 4 megapixel camera that have larger pixels, allowing more light into each pixel. That's why it's so good at low light photos.
Saw the video you're talking about. This video actually proves my point. Are you familiar with bridges & sky scrapers? They're built to flex for wind & earthquakes. That's the noise of flex. The materials actually flexing. The HTC didn't make any bosses, because it breaks once it reaches it's maximum flex point. The S4 will make nose, but will flex much further. You have a but to learn about flex & breaking points.
1. At the resolution of these two phones you can't see the difference in screen pixels. 2. More memory = more apps, pictures, music, videos etc. I have so much music on my phone! 3. Megapixels aren't a marketing trick, UltraPixels are. Removable back = more battery available in seconds by putting in another battery and you can replace parts a whole lot easier.
I did, and I changed all the settings to get the most accurate colours. The screen is so saturated that it gets too unreal. My friend has AMOLED burning problems. Ive heard that the Plastic problem was only with the first batches... my friends Ones are about as perfect as mines and they got theirs about last month... no problems...
Funny but the physical button is not just a feature, it is a NEED. Although I do not know if the S4 has a feature that when you push the power button at the side of the phone, the screen will turn on. The Galaxy Ace, S2, Y, etc. has this features. But even though there is a power button at the side, there should be a home button at the front. Imagine if you accidentally touched the home button and you have to click the app again. That's why it's a physical button.
HTC one bcoz the OS is very snappy, S4 is very Laggy, screen on HTC one has high pixle density and screen quality, HTC one the best build quality fully metallic body, S4 is just a cheap plastic.
I had the S4 and neither the GPS nor the Bluetooth worked well. Those are significant features and they are not mentioned here at all. Hopefully HTC One doesn't miss those critical features that don't show up in reviews.
I like it when when Samsung is better they say it's the best, and when the HTC is better they say it's a tie. This was the first review i saw where the reviewer says the S4 is better to hold. It's not, and anyone who has had one in their hands will say that. I am not an HTC fan boy. In fact, I have never owned one or even considered buying one until now. I have had all the galaxy phones until the S4 because I can not support that my country recieves a lesser version of this phone, the quad-core instead of the octa-core. Tommorrow I will be buying a HTC one because the only thing that is worse on this phone compared to the galaxy is the camera (I have a professional camera and a regular digital one. And, in fact, most of my photos are made in either a low light situation, or in a situation where the wider lens favors my picture), and the lack of external SD card capability (My S3 has 16gigs + 16 through external so I will be fine with 32 anyways). The HTC is better built, has better/same hardware than the samsung. I don't care about sense vs touchwiz because if i wanted to stay stock i would buy an iPhone. So that is it, if you are planning to buy one of these like me I would advise the HTC anyday, if (again) like me you are sick of spending 600/700 euros on a phone made of plastic and that loses the paint on the side after half a year.
The S4 also only has 8 gb of usable space. Considering you can not put apps on a removable SD card on the phone, go with the HTC one which has 28gb of usable space on the 32 gb version, or 60 gb of usable space on the 64 gb version.
Me too! The ability to add extra memory is leaning me towards Samsung. Anyone know if the fact that I have Samsung laptop and smart tv has an additional benefit in terms of all the devices talking to each other?
I bought the HTC One but ended up returning it and getting the GS4. I was coming from a GS3 but had an HTC Sensation before that. I totally agree with the build quality argument. However I don’t think the GS4 feels as bad as it’s made out in a lot of videos.
i have had both phones and honestly there is no better or worse phone. Its what you prefer in a phone if you want a phone with a slightly larger screen and bigger camera then the s4 might be for you but if you want a phone with better sound system and more sleek design then the one might be for you but both phones are great and you cant go wrong with either one personally i prefer the s4 because its newer and it has a bigger camera and brighter screen and thats more important too me so you choose but overall both are great devices and you will enjoy either way!
Wow, I totally reversed that comment lol. I meant to say the first time I've heard someone say the S4 was more comfortable. And just to add on, I just got my HTC One today and my god it is one comfortable phone to hold!
It feels solid in the hand and I actually preferred the lighter weight as compared to the One. The ones build quality was actually one of the reasons I returned it. I felt like I had to be super careful with the phone in case I scratched it or god forbid dropped it. It actually made me feel nervous handling the phone. It also felt very slippery in the hand.
Lastly, the beauty of Android is, rooting will take care of all the animation issues, lag issues, bloatware issues, so when it confess down to it, firmware & software wins.
Yah the features on the S4, look interesting in a review or commercial, but air view/gesture and eye motion capture are not that reliable and fast so they become frustrating to use and you shut them off to save battery after a week of use.
I adapt easily to any UI. None of them annoy me to the point that I feel the need to change them to something more familiar. I actually enjoy the experience of learning something new. The harder, the more different, the better for me. Most people hate change, I love it. As far as the speakers go, I could care less about them, as long as I can hear clearly in speaker mode. I don't need the room listening. If I want better sound, there's a 3.5 mm jack for that, and also Bluetooth.
I love the HTC one, but i just dont understand why HTC did a phone with the same size as de SG4 but whith a smaller screen (4.7). it feels barely tapped
The One is much more appealing in terms of industrial and ui design, but when I actually played with both phones in store, the S4 felt more balanced in the hand, and the bigger display was more appealing to view.
Me, I'm actually a power user. Most people, 95%, are not, so to those 95%, they may like the HTC One better, based on looks and feel. Me, I actually use every bit of my phones. I do things with my Razr Maxx that even other Razr owners didn't know they could do. On that note, it's just the sheer number of abilities. The camera for instance. Also, the ability to link other S4's and play the same thing simultaneously on all devices. The "look away stop play" feature. The photobomb erase feature...
by the end of next month i am getting a new phone, its going to be either the s4,htc one, sony xpera, but i think i'm leaning more towards the htc one...
Definitely the HTC One! It's the best phone, ever made!
I'm not saying the S4 isn't a great phone which it is but as far as innovation--> HTC takes the cake
I like both phones. I liked the S3 and S4, just got the HTC One to try something new, and I REALLY love it! The screen is amazing.
Its fun to you when you can afford so many phones or any of the phones at all..
which one would you recommend? The S4 or the HTC one?
CoDStickz Defiantly the ONE. Or you could wait for the M8 to come out, but if you want a new phone, get the ONE. It's totally worth it.
CoDStickz LG G2
which one should i get?
I have One (dual SIM edition with ext SD slot) and my friend has S4. Have used and compared the phones. And One triumphs overall. The Touchwiz UI is packed with features but is very gimmicky. Samsung Galaxy S4 >
debatable

Are your hands in different time zones ?
What type of screen protector you got installed on both of these phones?
i have a questions which phone would be better for the long run? about 3 years from now?
TechnoAndeh is right, an Ultrapixel is essentially a megapixel that is much larger then your traditional megapixel. How's the battery compared to the S4?
Just out of curiosity, are you an apple fanboy by any chance and do you use an iPhone?
in which colour u have hTc one ? em going to buy today... is the silver one is awesome or black ?
So which phone did you go with?
Can you use live wall papers on either of these phones?

Currently I have Galaxy S2 and I am looking for my next phone, What do you suggest: Galaxy S4 with Google (from Google /O 2013) or HTC One?
What do you have now ?
How would you turn on the device then?
I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and it worked fine until I updated it to Android 4.2.2 just a few days ago. It's been lagging ever since. I wonder if there's any way to revert it back to pre-4.2.2.
im getting a new phone soon and i have a tough decision to make. Should i get the Iphone 5, Samsung galaxy s4, or the HTC 1? Please reply
Does the one have the hands free gestures my hands are always dirty at work and that's a HUGE plus for the S4
Are the touch buttons responsive? thanks!!!

The wallpaper your using on your htc one how to get that?
hey PhoneArena, Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One are considered among the best phones, I am planning to buy one of them. So i should go with Galaxy S4 or HTC One?
to which do you think is best among them?
i have no idea which i'm going to buy... help me!
i have iPhone 4 and i want to get a new phone and i dont know what i get : HTC One OR Galaxy S4 ?

you know that doesnt mean anything right? its just a marketing term htc uses. it is 4megapixels. look it up
Can you give a download link for the s4 wallpaper?
No, the 4mp "ultrapixel" camera on the htc has bigger pixels than the S4 results in slightly better low light shots, but there is a huge lack of detail because it's really just a 4mp sensor compared to S4 which has a 13mp sensor.
thats what im here for :D nice to see someone appreciate my sense of humour
how could you say that? do you have an HTC One?
Who is the winner ?
I don't have any social networking profiles (Twitter, Facebook etc.) which phone out of the two would be best for me.
guys am kinda scared to get the GS4 because i know a few people who had it and it used to lag like hell, freeze at least once a day, battery drains real quick and the headset jack makes a really annoying noise and if you turned it up to 11+ volume it makes the sound really distorted !! so can anyone please help !
so, HTC one or S4?
But you cannot put apps, music on the SD card anymore. Android 4.2.2 prevents it. People were complaining and switching to the HTC One when they bought the S4.
Could you please tell me why you think the S4 is better than the One? Im no fanboy aswell. Im coming from an iPhone.
Just got a HTC one idk if should swap it for the s4
A few other things annoyed me with the One as well. excuseme
may i know in what a way one beats upcoming butterfly s (India)...
which can perform faster b/w those two.
Because i want to buy htc butterfly s...
thanks in advance...
Which one should I get the s4 or the HTC one plz reply cuz in have to make desicion this wwek . thanks anyone.
The clocks didnt change at the same time :/
well everyone has there opinion on both of these phones and if your coming from an htc device u choice might be the htc one but if u have a diffrent phone besides a model from htc ur choice might be the samsung galaxy s4 and in my opinion i still cant decide what phone i want to get and i am a htc user and i do like the htc new features it has but the s4 is good to so please reply on which phone i should get cause honestly i cant choose
Which one guys? I'm torn!
How often does the HTC One crash? My last experience with HTC was with the HTC Inspire 4G. Anyone??
Light material such as plastic may not seem like a premium material; but, your arm and hand will feel the difference after holding it in your hands for 10 or more minutes.
hey tell me there is any air gestures in htc one like s4 in picking call seeing film e.t.c
Can the gs4 slow parts of a video like the HTC one?
what happened with 2008?
Ultrapixels is a marketing term. It's a 4 megapixel camera that have larger pixels, allowing more light into each pixel. That's why it's so good at low light photos.
Aun estoy aprendiendo a usarlo y adaptarlo a mis necesidades. Donde consigo una tienda Samsung en Venezuela?
Saw the video you're talking about. This video actually proves my point. Are you familiar with bridges & sky scrapers? They're built to flex for wind & earthquakes. That's the noise of flex. The materials actually flexing. The HTC didn't make any bosses, because it breaks once it reaches it's maximum flex point. The S4 will make nose, but will flex much further. You have a but to learn about flex & breaking points.
why in the whole video, you do not showed the HTC ONE video camera?? wtf,..
can you tell me something that you don't like about the HTC one?
1. At the resolution of these two phones you can't see the difference in screen pixels.
2. More memory = more apps, pictures, music, videos etc. I have so much music on my phone!
3. Megapixels aren't a marketing trick, UltraPixels are.

how many GB does sense 5 take up?
I did, and I changed all the settings to get the most accurate colours. The screen is so saturated that it gets too unreal. My friend has AMOLED burning problems. Which one should I buy ? The Htc or Samsung ? I got enough money for both but I just wanna have one . Please recommend .
HTC one bcoz the OS is very snappy, S4 is very Laggy, screen on HTC one has high pixle density and screen quality, HTC one the best build quality fully metallic body, S4 is just a cheap plastic.

You know what we wanted?
A FREAKIN WINNER!
I bought the HTC One but ended up returning it and getting the GS4. I was coming from a GS3 but had an HTC Sensation before that. I totally agree with the build quality argument. However I don’t think the GS4 feels as bad as it’s made out in a lot of videos.

You know, HTC's build quality and simplistic OS combined with Samsung's features, removable battery and extendable memory would be the perfect phone.
No more crashes on the newer HTC Phones. After a few tough years, they are back up on the league again!!!
It feels solid in the hand and I actually preferred the lighter weight as compared to the One. The ones build quality was actually one of the reasons I returned it. no there are no gestures like waving your hand over the screen. However features like that are battery killers
Since when does Bas Rutten do phone reviews?
why would you put your phone on a pocket with keys on it?
I love the HTC one, but i just dont understand why HTC did a phone with the same size as de SG4 but whith a smaller screen (4.7). it feels barely tapped
