I'm so glad you made this video. One of my main concerns, and this is probably really stupid, is that I was worried I wouldn't have access to the camera from the lock screen. I'm ditching my iPhone for this phone and you just sealed the deal.
as someone who just picked this phone up today, and has never been fortunate enough to have a phone anywhere near this quality, I find this tremendously helpful.
This phone is amazing. I absolutely love my One and I have owned many devices before. Admittedly I never thought I'd be going back with HTC again but this the best phone choice I have made to date.
hey, you can change your home page. on the blink feed page, click on the 3 dots icon -> customize home screen -> hold on the panel you want as home page -> drag the panel to 'set home page' on the top left. Tada! If you want to remove blink feed, just hold and drag the blink feed panel to "remove" next to "set home page".
You've had it for 2-3 days? Good. I'm grateful that someone can give me tips for the HTC One after 2-3 days with it. Instead of, you know, 2-3 hours. I guess asking a "reviewer" to have it for anything more than a month or two before posting click-bait videos would be too much. Aaaaaaanyway...
I like the idea that you can't get rid of apps in the dock if the app drawer isn't open. It's sort of like a hybrid of iOS and Android- the dock is a part of the app drawer. Love it. Good one HTC.
at 9:20 i think the 'best shot' button lets you choose your own picture as to which one is best shot (you just took the 1st one), it's a different approach on burst-shooting as to not have all those pictures in your gallery, but only the best one; so you need to select it yourself, i don't think it does that automatically, it's just like the One X i suppose
One thing I found useful: He mentioned you can long press the home button to use google now. There is a setting to change the action of the long press to function as a hardware menu button instead of google now. If you don't do this, a lot of apps will insert a menu bar at the bottom of the app that takes up a lot of real estate. May be useful to you if you don't use google now. Settings->Display, gestures & buttons->Home button to change.
when you click on best shot it takes the highlighted picture that you have selected as the best shot and the one that gets saved. It doesn't select the best shot for you, if you take a burst shot and just tap best shot, it will save the first frame as the best shot
It's a very easy to use and fast transfer over bluetooth for contact info, calendar events and the like. It works with most phones including low end and old models
Periphery: the home and back buttons light up automatically based on lighting. Cover the sensor with your finger and you will see them light up. I agree that it would be cool to maybe have them turn on automatically when your fingers hit that area but overall absolute gem of a phone. I owned all iPhones and S3, S4 and Nexus 4 and the HTC One amazing features and its simplicity comes out on top.
I've had this phone in 4 days after having iPhone in 3 years, and I cant understand why I didn't switch to Android earlier, I just love this phone from HTC and the sound and build quality are just amazing!
Regarding removing items from the dock. I don't know if it's different for different carriers or if an update has been done since this video, but I just got an HTC One through Verizon. You can remove an app from the dock without having to open the app drawer. Unlike in the video if you drag it to trash or to the desk top, it will disappear from the dock where as in the video it doesn't.
Yes it does. HTC has the transfer tool since the Desire and it's fantastic. Contacts for almost every device. If you have an Android 2.3 device or an iPhone you can transfer practically everything. Contacts, texts, photos, video, some settings, ect...
You can change the background from your messaging app. And when you hold an app from the app menu. You can see an uninstall option. That way you dont have to go through setting to find an app and uninstall it.
Hope you're enjoying your HTC one, I can tell you its my favorite toy to keep on me! Everyone has said the phone is limited but I don't see the problem, battery life is amazing IMO (coming from a 1450 maH battery) and the storage is enough :D
It becomes officially available through AT&T this Friday 4/19, but several stores have already sold some units (possibly by mistake). I am not sure about Sprint or T-Mobile.
@ 2:36 You can actually set any of them windows as home page so blink feed is not always on front. just grab them and drop them at the top left where it says "set as home" @ 2:52...
I've heard a lot of great things about the phone the only two down sides are the Camera, which seems to do pretty well considering other reviews and the GPS. I've only seen one video review talking about the GPS, but having a good GPS is important to me. All in all the phone seems very impressive.
My only let down with my One is the Beats Audio. I was expecting some serious sound (for a phone). Well, while the quality is a tad better than my old iPhone 5, the volume isn't any louder. In fact, my iPhone is actually a tad louder. Not a big deal, but I was hoping for some volume!
I have had this phone for months and I love it. Mines from sprint and I have had absolutely no problems with mine what so ever. Great phone I recommend it for everyone
I am still on the fence on this phone but your review showed me a few more things that should help me decide. Any build quality issues? I have been hearing a few things about the speakers moving, some small gaps that have sharp edges, etc...
theres 2 ways to take screenshots on the HTC One: Hold down the Power button (top left) and the capacitive Home key (bottom right) until you hear the camera shutter sound and see an animation onscreen. Hold down the Power button and the Volume down button (right spine) until you hear the camera shutter sound and see the screenshot capture animation.
I'm two days old from a Photon Motorola and your video sure helped in many ways!! I was looking for a screen grabber app that I used all the time but could not find the same one i had before. Thanks for the tip that you don't need the app because the phone can do it. I don't want to hide much of the phone so what's your thoughts on a case for this one? Thanks much!
Usually after installing a 3rd party launcher, the first tap of the home button will bring up a window asking which launcher you want to use, and whether you always want to use that launcher, or use it just once (just like every other action). What launcher are you trying to use?
Good vid dude, very informative. This will be my next phone, can you tell me if the Transfer content function makes things easier/simpler to transfer from your old phone? And if so, how exactly?
It is inbuilt in the phone to transfer data(calender, msgs, contacts, etc) from another htc(android), other androids(Samsung, LG ,etc) Iphone , Blackberry ,etc Go under Settings>Personal>Transfer content and select your device..!! THIS PHONE ROCKS!!! WORTH PURCHASE !
I've noticed this phone only has 2 buttons at the bottom, back and home right? When I'm inside an app, how to I access the options button? For my Samsung Galaxy, it was usually the left button.
Hey! I've had the One for a while now and the syncinc was really simple... for HTC phones (so old HTC to your new HTC) there is a HTC sync app... it actually asks you in the beginning when you first turn on your phone... if you wanna sync (from either HTC or other phone). In my experience syncing from my old HTC took about 5 minutes... (pics and vids and music takes a bit )... you can sync Contacts, Messages, Vids, Pics, Music, Calender... but I think that'S it.
This and the samsung gs4... Hardest decision I've ever made. Both would be perfect for me, but both are just good in different ways. Samsung's plastic body looks alright even though it's just plastic, but their main purpose is lightweight and protection. Although the s4 is packed with so much stuff, I don't know if I'll be using all of it. I love the One's aluminum body, but how resistant to scratches is it? And I like the idea of the blinkfeed page and also it's camera.
Because the stock sense 5 launcher has been especially optimized for the device while other launchers won't be specifically optimized for the htc one which means slightly slower performance and fluidity. also these are tips and tricks for the phone "right out of the box"
Agreed! The S4 is half an ounce lighter than the One, and my friend has the one and the only thing I really like about it is the back, which feels nice. Since I tend to keep my phones in cases, it would be a waste for me..
I'm considering purchasing the HTC One! But a friend also recommended that I wait for the Nexus 5. I'm pretty technologically illiterate. What do you all think? Thanks!
Making a screenshot, then sharing it trough the notification bar? have you actually tried it as it doesnt seem to give that option to share it with my htc one
Hold the power button, and while hold the power button press the home button. You can also do it by holding the power button down and while holding it down press the volume down button.
just wanna ask some questions about the HTC ZOE. They say it'd become a deadlink after 180 days in the HTC Share. So I see people uploading Video Highlights in youtube. My questions are: 1. Is there a special way to upload from HTC Zoe Share to RUclips? 2. If there is, would the youtube vid also be gone after 180 days? 3. Is there a way to upload the Video Highlights DIRECTLY to RUclips?
What's the best glasses free 3D overlay screen protector and what's the best 3d picture and video taking app? Also, what about the fingerprint reader only to unlock the phone?
Hi, thanks for the tips. On my Australian model, I don't have the Gallery view; just the Albums, Event, etc. There is no left arrow. Is there some setting to display Gallery? Thanks!
My children who have I phones are all texting on one thread back and forth. They've added me and I get the text of the last person sending, and can only reply separately. How can I get the text on the same thread and reply on that same thread? I'm older so thus not very good with tech.
I have been using my HTC One for 5 months now - would love to see a video on how to manage the way too many photos it takes when Zoe is on - and that G+ is horrible in not letting me delete a group of pictures - i have to do them 1 checkbox at a time... super slow. I also would love to know how to best manage my photos - I'd love to have them upload to G+ or Dropbox, etc & then have the ones that were uploaded get deleted out of my phone. I spend a lot of time deleting pictures multiple times.
Thanks for the video. I just got mine (Dev Edition) 3 days ago and am coming from a DROID³ (2.3.4), so most of this was new. Got the moving app to/from places tricks by trial and error, but everything else is extremely useful.
You did not mention that u can swipe up home button to open up google now, and we can hold the power button then choose screenshot to screen shot, also there is alot to explain about trick android section
Nice video! It would have been nice to see how to enable the back button to be a menu button as Im sure many people will be coming from a phone that has a dedicated menu button. I hate having to look around for a menu icon rather than just press the same button every time.
With messaging, do you have to use the full keyboard? Or is there a way to switch it to a keypad that resembles old flip phones, with T9-word and all that?
HTC Zoe, it's short for zoetrope, I thought that was kinda cool. A zoetrope is a device that produces the illusion of motion from a rapid succession of static pictures.
Sorry, it also is initiated when you first start up your device and (I assume) can be later accessed in case you need to do it again via an installed app on the phone
I'm so glad you made this video. One of my main concerns, and this is probably really stupid, is that I was worried I wouldn't have access to the camera from the lock screen. I'm ditching my iPhone for this phone and you just sealed the deal.

you can also take a screen shot by holding the power button and pressing the home button..
Thats the ipad, iphone and ipod touch...
drag096 that's the way it is for many phones.
drag096 it works on HTC the latest update (that I have at least) allows you to screen shot in the top pull down settings page
u can actually make screen shot by holding power button and volume button up either down
This phone is amazing. I absolutely love my One and I have owned many devices before. Admittedly I never thought I'd be going back with HTC again but this the best phone choice I have made to date.
how do customize phone options(power off, restart, airplane mode etc....)
hey, you can change your home page.
on the blink feed page, click on the 3 dots icon -> customize home screen -> hold on the panel you want as home page -> drag the panel to 'set home page' on the top left. Tada!

if you want to move your panels around, just press and hold, then you get to re-order them, you can also set a different panel as home this way.
You can turn BLINK FEED OFF,
Settings> Personalize > Customize Home Screen >Blink Feed Off
Boom! Welx.
thanx

The low light photos look great and 80% of my shots are in that way (mostly at night). Once tmobile gets the ONE on its shelf I'll be picking it up.
It's a very easy to use and fast transfer over bluetooth for contact info, calendar events and the like. It works with most phones including low end and old models

Thanks... got mine yesterday, moving on from a EVO. The alternate home screen to get rid of blink feed was great.
Hope you're enjoying your HTC one, I can tell you its my favorite toy to keep on me! Everyone has said the phone is limited but I don't see the problem, battery life is amazing IMO (coming from a 1450 maH battery) and the storage is enough :D
Me too! Upgrade was due and realised the 5S just wasn't worth it. I'm so excited to get to know this phone!
It becomes officially available through AT&T this Friday 4/19, but several stores have already sold some units (possibly by mistake). I am not sure about Sprint or T-Mobile.
How did you change the coloar of the Touch Buttons
I have just got a HTC One and this has been absolutely fantastic! Thank you soooo much :D
I'm going to switch from the iPhone 4 to the HTC One, so this vid will hopefully help me to get started quickly - thanks dude ^^

thanks for the clarification. I was just shocked to see the massive change in numbers. I have the HOX and I'm struggling with 32 GB limitation.
You can also press home button when your deep on blinkfeed to get back to top!!
I have had this phone for months and I love it. Mines from sprint and I have had absolutely no problems with mine what so ever. Great phone I recommend it for everyone
I really loved the highlight option, but is there only six themes? Cant i make some of the videos longer than 30 seconds ?
I am still on the fence on this phone but your review showed me a few more things that should help me decide. Any build quality issues? I have been hearing a few things about the speakers moving, some small gaps that have sharp edges, etc...
theres 2 ways to take screenshots on the HTC One:
Hold down the Power button (top left) and the capacitive Home key (bottom right) until you hear the camera shutter sound and see an animation onscreen.
Hold down the Power button and the Volume down button (right spine) until you hear the camera shutter sound and see the screenshot capture animation.
The speakers were at i think the lowest percentage but i could still hear them clearly. Boomsound is amazing man!!
No worries. You can disable the vibration from the buttons by going to the "sound" menu, I have no idea why it's put there.
In Blinkfeed you can tap the Home button again and it will bring you to the top - I find that easier than tapping the notification bar.
you can also hold down the power button and press home button to take a screen shot
I can both remove camera (and all other) icon from the bottom and change the order of screens when setting the panels.
This is my first Android phone and I found this video to be a GREAT resource. Thank you!!
Usually after installing a 3rd party launcher, the first tap of the home button will bring up a window asking which launcher you want to use, and whether you always want to use that launcher, or use it just once (just like every other action). What launcher are you trying to use?
Really good video! Had the phone for a few months and the camera tips were particularly useful. Didn't know about them until your post. Thanks!
I notice you're in Portland too, I just ordered the One unlocked! Thanks for for the tips!
If you go into settings you can get rid of the BlinkFeed just go into personalise and home screen style
Good vid dude, very informative. This will be my next phone, can you tell me if the Transfer content function makes things easier/simpler to transfer from your old phone? And if so, how exactly?
I dont think i saw you once hit the back button to return. When you hit home it just went back. What's the use of the back button then?
do you know when the phone will be available in india ??
It is inbuilt in the phone to transfer data(calender, msgs, contacts, etc) from another htc(android), other androids(Samsung, LG ,etc) Iphone , Blackberry ,etc
Go under Settings>Personal>Transfer content and select your device..!!

I have Sense 5 on my HOX and all the problems you pointed were corrected(i think)because i have none of those in my phone.
Got it! We don't have it yet in the US! I look forward to it!
Hey! I've had the One for a while now and the syncinc was really simple... for HTC phones (so old HTC to your new HTC) there is a HTC sync app... it actually asks you in the beginning when you first turn on your phone... if you wanna sync (from either HTC or other phone).

Most of the features we see here are now on iPhones now.
When editing home screen, you can switch the places like you said you thought you could, I just tried and it worked
You are correct, sir. Works the exact same way on the One X - also a great feature, I might add.
you can also swipe up starting from the home button to acces google now..
I know that with the HTC Arrive, you couldn't customize your homescreen. Can you now with the HTC Arrive?
go to settings>select more below media output > mobile network sharing > there u will have portable wifi hotspot and its settings
I know there is an app to make a swipe up gesture function as the home buttom, is there a similar app for turning the home button into a multitask?
You can also use hold the power button and tap the home icon to take a screenshot
Yea hey I had a question plz answer. When I zoom in it dose not let me zoom in much. Do u know why or if there is an option to zoom in more? Thanx
you can take away the blinkfeed if you go to settings/home screen style and then choose traditional.

Great video.I'm getting HTC One tomorrow and this hopefully will help me get a good start.
Thx dude
Making a screenshot, then sharing it trough the notification bar? have you actually tried it as it doesnt seem to give that option to share it with my htc one
Hold the power button, and while hold the power button press the home button. You can also do it by holding the power button down and while holding it down press the volume down button.
I just got this phone and you can turn off blink feed. I just they sent out an update
HOW?! I hate blink feed.
Press and hold the screen like you want to add an app and the app/widget screen pops up. It on the top left corner just turn it "off"
i fuckin love you man
You can remove blinkfeed. Just pick traditionel startscreen from settings
just wanna ask some questions about the HTC ZOE.

with the camera does it have panoramic option?
you are the very best reviewer i have ever seen on utube. excellent

I wish The One had a separate option for notification volume.
As it is now, the ringer & notification volume are paired together. A minor annoyance.
With messaging, do you have to use the full keyboard? Or is there a way to switch it to a keypad that resembles old flip phones, with T9-word and all that?
Thanks for the tip! This is much easier and doesn't have the LOUD snap shot sound.
HTC Zoe, it's short for zoetrope, I thought that was kinda cool. A zoetrope is a device that produces the illusion of motion from a rapid succession of static pictures.
You can either use mass storage or HTC has their own transfer software
Sorry, it also is initiated when you first start up your device and (I assume) can be later accessed in case you need to do it again via an installed app on the phone
you can screenshot by holding the power button and tapping the home button as well
Hey how did you get your home button back light off?? Please tell me
have you by any chance installed the update for the camera ? does it improve it? that's the only deterrent to getting this phone, the camera
When saving an MMS picture? Where does it go? I've checked my gallery and it doesn't show up
how do you add the battery percent in the notification bar?
The blink feed can now be removed, after the update to kitkat.
How do you make your home and back button glow?
