I like that you show pros and cons of going with and w/o chemical treatments and share your experiences with both. We all just want healthy bees at heart. the mites suck no matter how you attack them and we need to be honest about all the methods out there.

Hello again. What are your thoughts on caging the queen for two weeks to break the brood cycle. Sorry for bombarding you with questions. This is my 3rd raising bees and I am also doing it chemical free. Thank you Emily, you are the best.
I use oa vape in sprin before brood is capped and in late fall when low brood for clean up. Also use hopguard 3 in summer if needed. Safe for supers and easies to the bees that I found.
Hi , i am just wondering , what happen to the horizontal hives from Dr Leo? Did you give up on them . This is my 2nd year with them and was looking forward to your input .oh and great job with the video.
Great video. Love your style and knowledge. Question for you: if I love my queen (new in April) but I want a brood break, can I move my queen to a nuc for 2 weeks, then reintroduce her back to the same hive after that?
I have top bar hives. They are filled up with brood. My bees wont have honey available yet in wisconsin. We are behind here. Temps just got warm. Was still in 50's at night last week.
@@bunkysbees1294 I know. This is what Emily keeps calling a brood break though. She keeps referring to Mel Disselkoens OTS Queen rearing manual previously seen in her videos. Splits don't offer effective brood breaks in the sense that she says they do. The mite suicide Mel describes in his book...which she is also saying is not observable nor ever tested. Even Mel Disselkoen treats with Oxalic Acid in August. So...not much mite suiciding going on.
I'd like to see that moment when varroa is chilling on the bees. And that other moment when varroa has problems entering 3 in 1 cell and feeding and breeding all on one.. better learn your bee math. Brood breaks are not for newbies
@@altaylor293 it was a 6 frame nuc I had just transferred about 5 weeks earlier, I had put a pollen patty on top of the frames I was reading that was a bad idea in June to August as the high activity of hive beetles and this would attract them?

🤨I agree 100%🤔nothing in beekeeping is 100%.
I can guarantee that kind of "brood break" won't work. Next year you'll have alot of equipment so you can buy package bees this time and try again

Agree with you but you should say Chemical free not treatment free. Brood breaks are a form of treatment.

Intentional brood breaks for mite control are not a part of treatment free beekeeping. Anthropomorphism overload and sketchy advice as always.

Hive beetles just destroyed my first hive😢.
Hive beetles and wax moths are opportunistic pests. They attack weakened hives. There was another problem that allowed them to take over.
