  • There's ANOTHER garden tractor in the garage! It's seen better days, but I couldn't pass up the deal. Let's tear into it and see if we can't bring her back to life!

I've a Case 222 tractor that I use to blow snow. Has a rebuilt engine and I expect it to be running for the next 35 - 40 years. I've gone all over it with new paint and decals. It doesn't just run like new; it looks like new too.

Just scored a JD 214, unfortunately the po said it ran low on oil and locked up, so I've been eyeballing rebuild parts. Piecemealed, it'll be about $200 for this K321, which isn't all that bad as that will be pretty much everything from rings, gaskets, piston, rod, valves and all the electrical pieces, plus a fuel pump for good measure (basically a brand new engine after honing the cylinder). I haven't got into it yet, so that's all wishful thinking, as I may go shopping for a preowned 16hp Briggs and just call it a day. I'd really like to rebuild the original, but I'm on the fence if it's worth all the effort, if it's not all welded together inside of course.
Add: I was wondering about the white junk myself, and first instinct leaves me to believe its oxidation residue, probably from ethanol content in the fuel. If the carb is all yucked out in the same manner, you'll have your answer. All the ethanol will break down aluminum quite readily, made worse by poor maintenance schedules. It can be offset to a degree with fuel treatments that somewhat neutralize the corrosiveness of the ethanol, or you can add 2-stroke oil to your fuel in a ratio of 1:100 (I've seen people go up to 1:500 and put it in their gasoline-burning road vehicles). In theory it helps lube all the engine parts the fuel travels through and provides something of a protective barrier, but as a nice side effect, it does a great job as a fuel stabilizer for what I use it as for my mowers where the fuel isn't burned as quickly as my truck for instance. This is for 4 cycle engines for clarity, just mixed into my fuel cans.

It sure does. The cabs can be nice when blowing snow in the winter but I've never seen one that looked good lol. Even the factory cabs just dont look right to me.

They dont come around often that's for sure. I see the case tractors come up for sale around here pretty often but rarely for less than $1500 with maybe 1 attachment.

Almost bought a case, but the deal didn’t work out. We got a ton of JD 200 series tractors around these parts for the most part. Got 3 of em rn w a 67 JD110 RF.

Great video! I just got a 1983 222 that has been sitting in a field not ran since 2000. Wires are chewed up from mice so once I rewire it then who knows if it will run?

I was watching you put the starter on and believe that dealer sticker says beaver machine? If so, thats just a few miles south of me. I have a 444 that I have a few videos on also. I. Glad I found your channel. Maybe we can help eachother out sometime? Have a Facebook?

Good eye, thanks for watching! If beaver machine is south of you, you must be in Crivitz? Can't beat a 400 series CCI. Never should've sold my 446, I used that more than I use my Mitsubishi now. Don't get on facebook much anymore, but feel free to DM me on twitter. @NorthwoodsNoise

Cringed watching you trying to start this without identifying and fixing what caused it to seize. Lol
