You may not have seen Dumbledore screw up, but you did see him admit to doing so which resulted in what happened to his hand. And, though the films won't really say it, he's made some gigantic thundering mistakes in his past... to be explained at a later date!

Not sure if you check past video comments but in regards to Sectumsempra. I believe you were o. the right path with "Sempra" being always but you missed the "Sect" part.
I think it is sect as in "seco" to cut.
The spell is more horrifying in the books. There is blood and cuts on Draco all over and more and more forming on his body.
The spell is meant to perpetually divide and slash the individual. Slash and cut until they are dead.
Without Snape being there Draco could have died because Harry was in too much shock to get him to the infirmary. And even then the spell is unknown and likely difficult to stop without the EXACT counterspell.
In Order of the Phoenix, Hermione was also slashed by a created spell in the battle with the Death Eaters. It wasn't shown in the film. But I think it happened in the brain 🧠 aquarium room. Dolohov sent a self-made spell at Hermoine that would have killed her if she hadn't used the langlock spell to mute him during the casting.
This occurrence really sets up why Harry starts wanting to distance himself in Book 6 as the trap led to many injuries and Sirius' death.
It also sets up a feeling of dread in this book/movie that Harry might use these "crafted" spells (for those paying attention to spell details), because the last one we knew of almost killed Hermione.

35:45 On top of threatening to kill him, Draco was chosen by Voldemort to kill Dumbledore as punishment for the Malfoys. Voldemort wanted to punish them because Lucius failed to bring him the procephy in Order of the Phoenix.

I love Draco. He's been an ass from the beginning but if you think about the way he grew up, it makes so much sense. His parents told him he was better than everyone else, he was taught he was superior and he believed it because his parents ran in a circle where everybody must have been a former Death Eater or an Umbridge type (his best friends' parents are literally other Death Eaters). He was taught that being a DE was a privilege, it brought you glory and status.
And then he's 16 and MADE to KILL the greatest wizard alive. And if he doesn't I'm sure Voldemort told him very clearly he was going to torture and kill his entire family.
I've always been pissed at Rowling for saying people who romanticise Draco's story were wrong.... she literally romanticised Snape's story. Draco was a teen, he wasn't a fully formed person yet. Snape was 40 and the love of his life was killed, he should have known better after Lily died. Joining Dumbledore wasn't because he didn't believe in Voldemort's cause. He was opposing the man that killed Lily.

The movie really dropped the ball on some of the best parts of the book, namely setting up Voldemort’s backstory and Harry’s relationship with the boy writing in the potions book - in the book Harry spends the whole year obsessively reading the HBP’s notes, and there are WAY more made up spells in the book than just Sectumsempra, which he is used throughout the book and were all harmless. While his use of it against Draco in the bathroom was obviously a bad choice, the book sets it up as a lot less stupid because he’d come to trust the Prince. Another missed opportunity is them not including any of Snape’s DADA classes, because it sets up such a cool juxtaposition of how much Harry hated the adult Snape while coming to think of the young Snape writing in the book as a friend.
*sighs* tl:dr I’d recommend reading the books after you guys finish this series because they’re SO much better and really make these later movies make more sense and therefore more enjoyable, especially if you’re watching them first and don’t get the rage quits I did trying to watch them after I’d basically memorized the books 🤣

Harry tore past Hagrid and his opponent, took aim at Snape’s back, and yelled, “Stupefy!”
He missed; the jet of red light soared past Snape’s head; Snape shouted, “Run, Draco!”and
turned. Twenty yards apart, he and Harry looked at each other before raising their wands
    simultaneously.
    “Cruc -”
    But Snape parried the curse, knocking Harry backward off his feet before he could complete it;
Harry rolled over and scrambled back up again as the huge Death Eater behind him yelled,
“Incendio!” Harry heard an explosive bang and a dancing orange light spilled over all of them:
    Hagrid’s house was on fire.
“Fang’s in there, yer evil -!” Hagrid bellowed.
“Cruc -” yelled Harry for the second time, aiming for the figure ahead illuminated in the
dancing firelight, but Snape blocked the spell again. Harry could see him sneering.
“No Unforgivable Curses from you, Potter!” he shouted over the rushing of the flames, Hagrid’s
yells, and the wild yelping of the trapped Fang. “You haven’t got the nerve or the ability -”
“Incarc -”Harry roared, but Snape deflected the spell with an almost lazy flick of his arm.
“Fight back!” Harry screamed at him. “Fight back, you cowardly -”
“Coward, did you call me, Potter?” shouted Snape. “Your father would never attack me unless it
was four on one, what would you call him, I wonder?”
    “Stupe -”
“Blocked again and again and again until you learn to keep your mouth shut and your mind
closed, Potter!” sneered Snape, deflecting the curse once more. “Now come!” he shouted at the
huge Death Eater behind Harry. “It is time to be gone, before the Ministry turns up -”
    “Impedi -”
But before he could finish this jinx, excruciating pain hit Harry; he keeled over in the grass.
Someone was screaming, he would surely die of this agony, Snape was going to torture him to
    death or madness -
“No!” roared Snape’s voice and the pain stopped as suddenly as it had started; Harry lay curled
on the dark grass, clutching his wand and panting; somewhere overhead Snape was shouting,
“Have you forgotten our orders? Potter belongs to the Dark Lord - we are to leave him! Go!
    Go!”
And Harry felt the ground shudder under his face as the brother and sister and the enormous
Death Eater obeyed, running toward the gates. Harry uttered an inarticulate yell of rage: In that
instant, he cared not whether he lived or died. Pushing himself to his feet again, he staggered
blindly toward Snape, the man he now hated as much as he hated Voldemort himself -
    “Sectum -!”
Snape flicked his wand and the curse was repelled yet again; but Harry was mere feet away now
and he could see Snape’s face clearly at last: He was no longer sneering or jeering; the blazing
flames showed a face full of rage. Mustering all his powers of concentration, Harry thought, Levi
    -
“No, Potter!” screamed Snape. There was a loud BANG and Harry was soaring backward,
hitting the ground hard again, and this time his wand flew out of his hand. He could hear Hagrid
yelling and Fang howling as Snape closed in and looked down on him where he lay, wandless
and defenseless as Dumbledore had been. Snape’s pale face, illuminated by the flaming cabin,
was suffused with hatred just as it had been before he had cursed Dumbledore.
“You dare use my own spells against me, Potter? It was I who invented them - I, the HalfBlood
Prince! And you’d turn my inventions on me, like your filthy father, would you? I don’t
    think so… no!”
Harry had dived for his wand; Snape shot a hex at it and it flew feet away into the darkness and
    out of sight.
“Kill me then,” panted Harry, who felt no fear at all, but only rage and contempt. “Kill me like
you killed him, you coward -”
“DON’T -” screamed Snape, and his face was suddenly demented, inhuman, as though he was
in as much pain as the yelping, howling dog stuck in the burning house behind them -”CALL
    ME COWARD!”

Those things in the water in the cave by the sea, those are Inferi, basically zombies. Every single one was a person Voldemort killed or had killed, and are enchanted to do his bidding.
The cave is pictured on a postcard in young Tom Riddles from at the orphanage. The orphanage took a trip there, and Took took some kids to the cave and did "unspeakable things" to them. Everything in the box that Dumbledore set on fire in the wardrobe was a trinket /trophy from Tom's victims.
    A baby serial killer.
    😶
Also, Fenrir Greyback is the guy who was out in the field with Bellatrix when they attacked the Wesley's house. He's a werewolf, but he even eats people when he's not in werewolf form. He's a death eater in the hopes that when Voldemort rules, werewolves like him can come out in the open and do what they like. Dumbledore explains to Harry at some point that the way the ministry treats "non-human creatures with near human intelligence" will come back to bite them in the ass day.

Although i personally really like this movie because of Snape's increased role, and more Ron+Hermione moments, a lot of people feel that this is the most poorly-adapted film in terms of taking from the book. In the book, we see a lot more of Voldemort's past, basically like a sort of origin story. The book also does a really good job of actually developing the relationships among characters, whereas in the movie people felt like it was too much of a teen drama-type thing

All of the movies after PoA are considerably worse than the books because of how much they cut down the Marauders story, but the fact that they stripped so many Voldemort memories and made the HBP book such a nonentity really dropped the ball here. They should have spent more time developing Harry’s relationship with the boy writing in the book, and given us more backstory (instead of the completely needless destruction of the Burrow)... other than Dumbledore’s death none of the major beats from the end of the book even seem to matter in the movie, which is so unfortunate to look back on

It's just chills every time. He is my favorite character in books and in movies, this is the best scene ever, weakened yet so powerful.
About those things in the water: During the First Wizarding War, Voldemort was known to have created an army of Inferi from the large number of people he murdered. He placed such an army within the lake of Salazar Slytherin's Locket's hiding place. They are corpses, dead bodies that have been bewitched to do a Dark wizard's bidding. The spells used to reanimate the corpse are complex.
Great reactions, greetings from México 😬👍🏻

in the book there are more memories of voldemorts past and upbringing in dumbledores pensive that harry sees which shed more light on voldemorts motivations. basically his mother's family was an old pureblood family that ran out of money and were living in poverty. voldemorts grandfather was abusive to his mother and was also really prejudiced against muggles. she fell in love with a rich muggle in her town and put a love spell on him so he would marry her but after they were married she took the spell off but he left immediately. she was pregnant with Tom and then died in childbirth so he went to the orphanage you see him at with dumbledore. they don't mention it in the movie but at the orphanage he had gotten in trouble for luring two other kids into the cave and torturing them there. that's why there is a horcrux there, bc it was a place that was special to voldemort.
the werewolf guy we see when the death eaters attack the weasleys house is named fenrir greyback and he was actually the one who bit lupin as a kid.
also! apparating is just disappearing from one place and appearing in another. you have to be 17 and pass a test to be able to do it otherwise you have to just hold onto another person who can apparate.

I'm very divided on this film I must say. I love the humour a lot, especially Harry's sassiness is finally shining through (although I can't get over the fact they didn't include his most savage line in probably the whole book:
They are practicing nonverbal spells in Defense against the Dark Arts with Snape. Snape as always uses Harry for a demonstration but Harry had enough of Snape using spells on him in his occlumency lessons and yells protego, a shield spell. Snape is knocked into a table and the following dialogue is one of the most iconic in the books:
Snape: "Do you remember me telling you we are practicing nonverbal spells, Potter?”
    “Yes,” said Harry stiffly.
    Snape: “Yes, Sir.”
Harry: “There’s no need to call me ‘Sir,’ Professor.”)
On the other hand there is so much important stuff that's missing. Book six is my favourite one together with Deathly Hallows and it is mostly because of Harry's lessons with Dumbledore and the memories they are watching together in the pensieve and so many of them were cut short, altered or left out completely. We learn a lot about Voldemorts past in the book but nearly nothing in the movie. In the books Dumbledore pretty much knows that Voldemort has made Horkruxes, the memory of Slughorn is mostly important to confirm how many he made. He also tells Harry what he thinks the other Horkruxes are (I won't list them, because I think the films tried to make you figure them out ore want you to be surprised what they are).
So if you are maybe reading the books in the future you are in for a treat with this one :)

Yeah the book was filled with amazing info that answered a lot of questions from the whole series. I couldn’t list all the things they left in. but yeah all the scenes between dumbledore and Harry and by extension Voldemort’s back story, all the relationship development, the actual end fight scene between Harry and snape, and then for me namely a scene I wish wasn’t altered:
      SPOILERS
that dumbledore stupified Harry (I think that’s the spell) so that he couldn’t move. had to witness his murder helplessly. The fact he couldn’t move until after dumbledore died since his death broke the spell added so much emotional tension. Also just makes sense, Harry wouldn’t have hid and done nothing. like just a stupid change for no reason

So, the importance of Snape being the Half Blood Prince (Prince was his mums maiden name) so it was like his own nickname.
If the Half Blood Prince, the owner of the book, would have been someone else then Harry would not have had the book.
He would not have prepared a perfect potion of Draught of Living Death without Snape’s hand-written notes.
He would have not received the vial of Felix Felicis.
He would not have obtained the memory of Voldemort asking Prof. Slughorn about Horcruxes.
    And so on…..

    • @lollyboyhair1

i think another significant thing about it being Snape who was the Half Blood Prince is that Harry felt really close and like he had a connection/trust with the Half Blood Prince because the book had helped him so much, and then to find out that it was Snape all along is just another huge blow to Harry.

NO SPOILERS TO THE NEXT PART ;) Wait wait, I listen your thoughts at the end and I can't believe lol xD xD Beggining of the movie: 1. Narcissa Malfoy (Mother of Draco) and her sister Bellatrix go to Snape, Narcissa goes there to ask Snape for help for Draco, Snape agree to help but Bellatrix don't believe him and make him do Unbreakable Vow which he do and agree to help Draco, protect him and if he fail than do his quest for him 2. In train Ron tells us (and Harry) that if you break Unbreakable Vow than you die... 3. Draco all the movie tries to kill Dumbledore (that was the quest what Voldemort gave him), and when Draco talk with Dumbledore on the astronomy tower he says that he need to do that because if he didn't do it than Voldemort will kill him. He is scared and doesn't want to do that but he need to but as you saw he still hesitated and than Snape came and the circle goes full as you read point 1 again, Snape make Unbreakable Vow, he needs to carry what Drco can't do otherwise he dies as he would not keep the Vow ;)

If you are wondering why Voldemort is the way he is, his mother was attracted to his muggle father, but he wasn’t interested in her, so she forced him to take a love potion. His father and his family were muggles so they had no idea what happened. When a child is conceived because of a love potion, the child is incapable of love, since the child’s conception was a perversion of nature. Voldemort was physically incapable of love or affection, except for his snake to which he shows the most minute affection. Voldemort’s mother started to feel guilty about forcing his father to love her, so she took him off the love potion in hopes that he would stay with her and the child, but he left. His mother later died giving birth to Voldemort. Voldemort found out his father left his mother, and since she died, his father is the reason he grew up in the orphanage. In the opening of goblet of fire, the big house you see was his fathers home. He goes there and murders his father and his grandparents as revenge. The old man he kills was the gardener for the family, who everyone thought killed them, because there was no scientific way of determining cause of death from the killing curse.

@@whitenoisereacts it was an excellent explanation but the timeline at the end isn't so clear. Voldemort had already murdered his father and his paternal grandparents while he was still a student at Hogwarts. He had actually found his mother's side of the family first, his maternal grandfather, and framed the killings on his maternal grandfather. The muggle gardener was blamed by the muggle police for the murders, but was later let go. The ministry of magic locked up Voldemort's maternal grandfather for the murders. By the time Voldemort had the conversation about horcurxes with Slughorn at school, he had already killed his father. His muggle father abandoning his mother is the cause for his contempt and hate for muggles. Plus, he has extreme pride that his mother's side of the family are pureblood descendants of Salazar Slytherin.
What happened at the beginning of goblet of fire, was many many years after those events. Voldemort had wormtail take him back to his father's house as a place to hideout.

12:10 Sectumsempra means "sectum"= cut and "semper"= forever (in latin). That's why you can see blood appearing everywhere on Draco's shirt. Minor cuts can be healed with the spell Snape uses afterwards, however, there will still be a lot of scarring unless Dittany is applied immediately afterwards
As seen in the Order of the Phoenix, Snape wasn't/isn't a fan of the marauders and created it most likely for them among other 'enemies'.

The Christmas attack on The Burrow was a total invention of the movie and one that made absolutely no sense at all since the wizard family and friends stand around watching the home burn rather than use spells and charms to extinguish the fire. Also, the Burrow appears unscathed in the next movie.
One of you asked shortly before this what the Ministry of Magic was doing throughout all this and that was answered by the Christmas scene in the book. The new minister drops by with estranged brother and son Percy Weasley to be able to ask Harry to drop by the Ministry time to time so it looks like the Ministry has the approval of "The Chosen One" (the one chosen by prophecy to defeat Voldermort). As the Ministry arrested and jailed Stan Shunpike -- the Knightbus conductor -- as a death eater, Harry refuses. All pretense forgotten, the Minister grills Harry on where Dumbledore has been going when he leaves Hogwarts. Harry is defiant (especially finding out Delores Umbridge is still with the Ministry after what she did to him and the other students in Order of the Phoenix) and turns his back on the Minister and walks away. This perfectly sets up a confrontation between Potter and that Minister in the next book where they angrily confront each other.
But instead, we got the Weasley's home being burned down and all the wizards forgetting they can do spells.

Also, the Deathly Hallows surmises Dumbledore was reliving his worst moment in life when a duel with a powerful wizard ex-friend caused the death of Dumbledore's sister. Another thing not explained was why Snape called himself the Half-Blood Prince. His witch mother's maiden name was "Prince". Hermione came close to discovering this by going through Hogwart's student history to look up anyone named Prince.

Snape made the unbreakable vow with Draco's mother: promising to protect Draco and to "do the deed" (killing Dumbledore) himself in case Draco would not succeed, as they all knew he was in no way strong enough to take on Dumbledore.
That was Voldemort's plan with this (as punishment for Draco's father for not bringing him the prophecy), to order Draco to do something he was not able to do, and to be killed while trying, or to get killed by Voldemort himself.
By killing Dumbledore Snape saved Draco from killing Dumbledore or being killed in trying to, but he also did it so he himself would not die by breaking the unbreakable vow.

The "Snape is the Half-Blood Prince" twist is yet another betrayal - because that book and the Prince's hints helped him excel in Potions and even taught him some spells that he continues to use (Muffliato and Levicorpus), and then to have that all thrown back in his face by learning that the person who helped him was his mortal enemy and the man who killed his hero.
