It doesn't have to be genetic. It might be immune disorder. And yeah, that's a possibility, but she probably came to the conclusion it wasn't her because there were no cases of autism in her family background and because of the information she found out about the donor.
Whatever the case may be, the donor just really sounds like a piece of sh*t. It wasn't enough that he'd struggled. He necessarily had to pass his condition along. Society should definitely protect its offspring against such practices.

Well yeah IVF leads to a higher risk of birth defects. 2/3 higher apparently. Out of the two people I know who’ve had IVF they both given birth to autistic children. The one friend had twins and then a single child. Two of the children have autism. The other one only had one child and they have autism. Someone with autism myself I can honestly say it’s terrible on my life is much harder. Also fun fact recent studies have shown that men are technically supposed to be sober for six months before even trying to conceive a baby. A lot of men think that because semen reproduce itself every 48 hours this isn’t true. But the truth is the help of your body and liver really Changes the semen.

Even with sperm donors there’s more Berthoud fixtures from the freezing process. I can’t believe how many people don’t know this. It’s almost like the industry is trying to get us to think freezing our eggs is also safe. Almost like they make billions of dollars off of this. Which is exactly what’s happening they are not telling us the full negative effects and make it seem like one is worse than the other one really they’re both bad. They both lead to sick children. Children should be carefree and we should intentionally do a process that could make them more sick. We don’t drink while we’re pregnant and we don’t allow incest because we want healthy babies but we’re doing IVF and artificial insemination? No not ok. This is more complicated than it sounds. Outside the children/ offspring, it is up to each individual (donor, recipient, and sperm bank) to do as much due diligence as possible. The donor should not have created a false application via omission, but a lot of the times donors are simply carriers of genetic traits and they may not know of developmental issues because it's much more complicated than just genetics. for example if a donor is an only child it's hard to really pin down if their parents had potential to have a child with whatever they have (furthermore, autism is not uncommon and is not a death sentence, and is more complex than sheer genetics)
Also, the sperm bank should have done a better job verifying, and done more work regarding mental health. Again, this is complex simply because a lot of the screening for donors has changed over the years to accomodate mental health more and more, and so the process has changed, but there are donors whose specimen could be from decades ago with a different set of criteria. This is where the role of the parent/ recipient(s) come in. They have to be aware of risks with or without the father's genetic testing, whether it's things that come up prior to childbirth or developmental issues. The sperm bank can only screen donors for diseases and maybe developmental issues, but they cannot give you a perfect, issue free child, just like traditional reproduction.

It's situations that are difficult to solve. On one hand, you have the right for people with disabilities and mental illness to have children but on the other, you have the livelihood of their children. To deny people the right to have kids is discriminatory and wrong but to have parents unexpectedly have a disabled child with mental troubles is definitely an issue. I think people should be thoroughly checked for any mental or neurological related disorder inheritance risks when applying and to have it labelled on their papers rather than to ban them from having kids outright. That way, it is up to the parents as to whether or not they want to accept that risk of their child inheriting the man's disorder.
