I don't see listening to music would make Michael gay. I take it that the Father realizes he doesn't know his son very well. As is frequently the case in average families. I have to say, Dylan Moran looks very different as the average family man. I'm used to the smoking, drinking and swearing [but with a good philosophy behind it.]
I really liked this. I got here from Catherine Tate's film, and I don't really know Dylan Moran, so I had no expectations about what it would be like. I think the title, "The Awkward Age", applied to the situation in general--it's not just being a teenager or young adult that's awkward--it's relationships and trying to communicate. And I loved the ending--the dad watching the son sleep like he would have when the boy was a baby, and then realizing he doesn't know as much about him as he thinks.
Dylan's hair is back to normal now :) I saw him perform and talked to him the other day and he looks like he's de-aged! He's stopped smoking so maybe that helps... *shrugs*
Now you listen here young man - I'm a Spanish priest and I don't like the tone of your voice! P.S. The music made me cry but thanks for telling it was Bach ... have a spiffing day ... bye ...
I thought that the music just meant that Michael was a lot more complex that his parents were making him out to be, it wasn't just pop. But the part where he still got punched after he gave the people his phone kind of makes sense if you look at it from that point of view
Yes, it does. Music has a lot to do with who you really are. Books too f.ex. If you read cheap literature, you are a cheap person. With no style. Haha. It's true. If you listen to hip hop you probably aren't as deep and complex a person as someone who listens to classical music, jazz or ..melodic black metal. P.S. The use of punctuation is by the way one of the signs for complexity of the mind ;)
Ekaterina Imerslund thats pretty bold. as someone who very much enjoys classical music, not only listening but playing since the age of 11, no - you're wrong and obnoxious
I remember visiting a restaurant when I was late 30s and m daughter was 13. We was going on holiday and rather excited. Some older gents were discussing us as they presumed we were a gay couple too. I was annoyed at the time, but think it’s funny now I’m in my 50s. I didn’t say anything to them (wish I had) but I would have if they had been staff rather than customers.
great chemistry. that is so golden!!!. what Quentin Tarrenteno sees. that certain thing between people that just flows like" really real" absolutly brilliant .mebbie all about the casting. pick the correct actors who can mesh whith each oher.....or just get them a little drunk? chemistry!
To all those who just got a clue from just the music For the whole 9 minutes the boy was trying to tell his father that he was gay One: The overly protective mother that refuses to go away for the weekend just to make sure they are ok especially the son. Two: The restaurant scene where the boy kept calling his father gay and sending gay vibes that the restaurant owner noticed. he was actually talking about himself. Three: Boy kept eyeing those lads outside where the father thought they were just being thugs that took the cell phone and beat the crap out of him. The son was actually checking them out. Four: the iPod where it is just a stereotype to give the audience (that never got it in the first place) yet another idea he was gay. which leads us finally to the beginning of the episode where the boy came home bleeding, for us to think he was just being bullied because he was weak. Clues add up.
Common Unity Then read the whole original comment. With all due respect you would figure out that I'm actually directing at people that say "gays should be distinguished by what music they listen"... I pointed out that there were OTHER clues to the fact that the son was gay.Apparently the music part was just an additional extra for the people who cannot think of anything else but your average everyday stereotypes like music, hand motions, clothing, lisps, hairdos, gait and so forth. If you are to point fingers here... ask Dylan Moran, why did he end his clip listening to Beethoven and has this sudden look of realization
I think Dylan Moran is a genius really. This is the only 11 mins I have not liked in his career. The clothes he is wearing made me laugh. He must have spent ages picking out the most drap clothes imaginable!
i think the son is gay because the music makes him finally connect all the dots , like why those guys kept hitting him even after he gave the phone and also why he knew the guy in the restaurant thought they were a gay couple.
The homosexual theory is an interesting one. The Bach at the end made me think of Billy Strayhorn. However I do not think that this short scene is about that. It's just about modern day father-son relationship stuff. People get mugged for their phones, cafe workers can be very rude, trying to get work with no experience is almost impossible, not many guys are good at cooking for other people, etc. The world is harsh. However the father apologizing at the end seems like some progress and the classical music is just a cliche, intelligent people who are sensitive find life the most difficult. It's not a very deep or original story but it is social realism (a pretentious art student's bread and butter). I must say that I expected more from Dylan Moran.
+jessie james i think they must have made him look older and fatter for this episode, becuase he definitely didn't look like this when I saw him live later in that year, lol.
:) I think he is "off the hook" :))) Which means, he quit smoking and/or drinking. You put on weight when you do that.. But he's still charming. Love this funny misanthrope!! He is true to his style here as well.
"I'm 41 years old"
"42"
"42. I'm 42 years old. I'll bleed wherever the fuck I want"
The human behind the comedy. Just as I suspected, Dylan Moran seems to be a pretty decent human being.
Absolutely brilliant !!! Dylan is a man of many talents! Thank you so much for uploading =)
I love the photo on the wall, of them all on the settee opposite the settee on which they all sit.
I don't see listening to music would make Michael gay. I take it that the Father realizes he doesn't know his son very well. As is frequently the case in average families.

I'm missing his fuzzy-head. But he's still great! :D
Dylan's hair is back to normal now :) I saw him perform and talked to him the other day and he looks like he's de-aged! He's stopped smoking so maybe that helps... *shrugs*
Great to hear he's in good shape. Thx. ;)
***** I know, I was so surprised too, but really pleased! :)
His “bye” at 1:48 reminded me of “Roweeeeena”
Dylan Moran is great.
Dylan is epic for sure. Also, happy holidays!
This is what I hope Bernard became after Black Books
No chance in hell!
Love this brilliant piece. The ending with Bach makes me teary
Nobody expects the Bach cello preludes!
Now you listen here young man - I'm a Spanish priest and I don't like the tone of your voice! P.S. The music made me cry but thanks for telling it was Bach ... have a spiffing day ... bye ...
The Rostropovitch version too !
TheSkipjack95 Rostro's the best, innit he? No one can hold a candle to his Dvorak.
Genius work!
I love dylan
Dylan Moran is a beautiful man..
@Rada 008 yes! I'm glad you do. I hope one day I'll bump into him here in NYC
I really want to know more about this family
I thought that the music just meant that Michael was a lot more complex that his parents were making him out to be, it wasn't just pop. But the part where he still got punched after he gave the people his phone kind of makes sense if you look at it from that point of view
enjoying classical music doesn't make somebody more complex than some one who doesn't enjoy classical music though so I'm not inclined to believe that
Yes, it does. Music has a lot to do with who you really are. Books too f.ex. If you read cheap literature, you are a cheap person. With no style. Haha. It's true. hepa00lepa Yeah... Stay human :)
Aw that's really sweet. So different than what he usually write too. Wow
Why Sky never released the other Little Crackers, it was a brilliant series
Having been both 17 and 42, I wholeheartedly confess to being much more awkward at the latter.
THANK YOU
Dylan Moran looks a bit like Stephen Fry..

I miss Dylan Moran
shut up, eat chocolate:D

Does anyone know the name of the piece at 10:40?
It's the prelude from Bach's cello suite no. 1 in G.
Joe Kennedy played at an absurdly fast tempo
does anyone know where to find the episodes streaming?

The Krakenismus What does the music have to do with sexuality? I guess everything else adds up in ways...
The Krakenismus are you saying Beethoven's music for gays?
Common Unity If you are an English speaker... you would get what I mean
The Krakenismus as a matter of fact I do speak English, if u haven't realised......
Common Unity Then read the whole original comment. With all due respect you would figure out that I'm actually directing at people that say "gays should be distinguished by what music they listen"... Eight and a half minutes we finally get a laugh, a small one, but a laugh.
A bit confused with the ending but..overall i loved it ^~^
Hi Bernard...
also..WOW,...
Ahhh stung.
Brace ears for impact.

Wardrobe did that

I hope not...

to be honest these weren't really about comedy as such.
ha ha he realises his son's gay through the walkman..bit lame
Why do idiots keep insisting that the son is gay?
is this how he looks now? put on weight ! :)
+jessie james i think they must have made him look older and fatter for this episode, becuase he definitely didn't look like this when I saw him live later in that year, lol.
