The driving skills I leaned on that "game" translated to real world driving skills. The physics were state of the art for that late 90's masterpiece.

    • @rars0n
      @rars0n 4 года назад +16

@@Elinzar The PC version is more about the history of Porsche and the details of the cars than the racing action. I spent about as much time examining the cars in the garage and reading the historical information as I did driving in that game. The point for me wasn't necessarily to win the race but to enjoy driving the various Porsche models through the countryside and explore the aspects of each unique car.
I think one of the reasons I like this game so much is precisely because of the fact that it's not just a standard arcade-oriented lap racer. It's very much a game designed to simulate a real experience.

"Actually, i'm trying to understand why PC NFS Porsche is considered by many to be the best NFS"
I'll tell you why. That version in despite to lack some content from the PS1 version has the best driving physics of all the franchise. The handling of every car (at least on the PC version) is not near of realistic but still is perfect balanced between the arcade and the real life, not so hard to master for a casual player but still a challenge for a sim driver. The presentation of the game offers only the neccesary to take a car and take a spin, it has beautiful landscapes, an oustanding soundtrack and all the love that EA (in a time when cared about the player and the consumer) put on a game to pay tribute to Porsche. One youtuber said: NFS Porsche is one of the few games based on actually historical racing (along with GP Legends and GT Legends), and I'm agree with that

I like it the most of all NFS games too (PC). Mainly because I think it´s the only really "grown up" game in the franchise. And there´s some nostalgia indeed. Let me give you my reasons:
    1) Atmosphere of the menu - awesome garage, auctions to make money, historic videos, great music.
    2) Tuning options - back then, almost no games had possibility to tune your car this way - sway bars, shocks, fibreglass bodies, it´s all just lovely and noticeable in game.
    3) Love the Porsche cars, but really, graphics are so bad and even the sound is nothing like the real car, so not sure if this is the real reason.
    4) Great tracks both audio and race ones, Cote d´Azur, Schwarzwald, Monte Carlo, Zone Industrielle and Alps are just unforgettable :)
    5) Drive feel - I know it´s a bit sluggish, but I really think it´s the way developers wanted it to be to feel real. Questionable choice indeed, but your irl car won´t make a 90° turn doing 130mph even if it´s a Porsche too.
    6) Fixed camera - your camera won´t move further away with speed and closer while braking, this is soo huge for me that I don´t even play most modern race games because of this.
    7) Played it as a kid with my father and we all know these are the best games when we grow up.
    PS: Fuck Dylan

Porsche Unleashed on PC was one of the first games I played in my life and it planted a Porsche seed in my brain that has made me into the huge Porsche fan that I am today. I came to know some years back that the PS1 version was vastly different and why the PC version is hailed as one of the best ever made is the historical data on Porsches, the game design and most of all, the 4-point physics. This is one of a handful of times when a PC game, and the only NFS game, came close to replicating a real car's handling. The way the cars handle, brake, shift weight, power slide, spin out etc. in the PC version is 95% accurate to how they handle in real life. That's the main thing that sells the game for me, and something that no other NFS ever managed to do again.
The PS1 on the other hand, I've come to appreciate that it's also an incredibly well made game with lots of attention to detail (first NFS to have flame spitting exhaust!), much closer in spirit to older games like Hot Pursuit 1998 and High Stakes, but where it falls behind is in the car handling department. Usually PS games have superior handling physics compared to PC, but apparently not with this one. Still a great game though, and one I'd love to play, if (and when) only I could acquire a PS1. Thanks for the video though! That was a good one!

I played the PC version years ago. Had no idea the PS1 version was so different. I liked the menu music on the PC much better. Also preferred the less glossy finish on all the cars.
I think what made Porsche Unleashed so great was it's handling and driving. It wasn't arcade-like at all. You could see how much slower the surroundings were zooming bye as opposed to the PS1 version, but yet you still felt like you were driving fast. You had to be very careful driving because you had to spend money to repair your car after each race. That and the handling was so much more grounded than other games. You really felt in complete control of the car which you needed to be since you had to be more careful. It really felt like a challenge to win, but not in an artificial way.
And the textures. So much richness and on such an old title.

The reason a lot of people thing NFS:Porsche 2000 was the best in the NFS franchise, is probably because it was one of the only 2 NFS games that were more simulation than arcade(at least on the PC version), the other one being the original NFS for MS-DOS/3DO. I remember being at my friends house playing the Demo of NFS II on his Windows 95 PC and hating it. Not that I think NFS II is a bad game, just that I was hoping for something more like NFS 1, whereas NFS II turned out to be a pure Arcade racer.

To me Need For Speed Porsche is the best Need For Speed because of the love it was given by developers
When it came out the graphics looked awesome, realistic and maps were detailed aswell and they did vary. If you compared this with High Stakes then it is easy to notice giant leap forward in terms of aforementioned graphics but also physics and number of vehicles available in the game
Sure the game teased us with 100+ models while in reality it was exactly the same model with different badges (like 356 1100/1300/1500 etc) but those were the details that I appreciate up to this day. Nowadays in modern games we get one model of specific car even if it had few versions
Physics as already said - different cars behaved differently and on different track. You had to know how to use the throttle and brake (incl handbrake)
Porsche had the best racing modes. While it wasn’t focused on a story or plot like Most Wanted or Carbon it presented us with Evolution mode and Factory Driver. Both were difficult especially for a kid of an age of 6-7 who wasn’t aware of vehicle tuning in this game. I remember being stuck at the 914 trophy when I was finishing 4th at best because of lack of tuning knowledge. When I found out about it and when I progressed further in the tournaments - better feeling than an orgasm
You can’t really hate on this release of franchise. From my experience there are two types of people when it comes to NFS5
    1. Those who played it and love it
    2. Those who didn’t play it and they should. I envy those who didn’t play it and if they ever decide to give it a try - it will be their first time!

The PC version might have graphics, semi-realistic handling and mods. But the PS1 just has a certain character to it that makes it more of what I'm looking for in a Need For Speed game. Arcade physics with realistic cars while celebrating Porsche's history at the same time. If I want realism in the late 90s early 2000s it's either Gran Turismo or GP Legends not Need For Speed.

    • @Jesus_Hill

I think it had the right amount of realism. It shared engine with High Stakes on PS1 (it's weird that NFS Porsche on PS1 did not), so it's a true classic NFS, and I see a lot of character: you can really tell the differences between models and feel the evolution generation by generation, while keeping the same Porsche DNA, which is perfect for a game based on a single brand like Porsche.

Porsche Unleashed on PC was more of a driving simulator than a racing game. It focused on accurately recreating the experience of driving a Porsche and covering the entire history of the company and its cars. Rather than doing laps on tracks, you drive from point A to point B as fast as possible and the point of it is to enjoy the car as much as to win the race.
I always felt like I was in the minority by liking Porsche Unleashed more than other NFS games, primarily because NFS dropped all of its driving simulator aspirations after the first game in the series, and it's understandable that lots of people find more enjoyment in arcade racing games than driving simulators. The handling is more deliberate and realistic in Porsche Unleashed than most NFS games, which can make it feel slower, but it seems like a much more accurate representation of the real cars.
This game is really for diehard Porsche fans. I spent almost as much time looking at the car models in the garage, opening doors, examining interior details, etc, as I did actually playing the game. The care that went into every little detail is obvious. The Playstation version on the other hand looks like a reworked version of the previous NFS game with the Porsche licensing slapped on. I'm not saying that it's necessarily a bad game, but it kind of defeats the purpose of using the Porsche license, because it's essentially now just a standard NFS game limited to nothing but Porsches, which I think is probably not what the average NFS fan wants.
Maybe Porsche Unleashed should have been released under a different title. It definitely sticks out in the NFS catalog with its focus on realism and a single marque. I would also have to assume that the Porsche focus and simulator aspect probably resulted in this game having fewer sales than a lot of NFS entries.

NFS Porsche, Shift and Shift 2 are the only Need for Speeds that have somewhat realistic physics (handling) and were more toward a simulator than an arcade racer like the rest of the NFS games (other NFS games are pure arcade and unrealistic). I didn't like NFS Shifts because of their before apex understeer to after apex oversteer thing and I prefer the physics of NFS Porsche. Beside that, it' unique and real story-history, the showroom, progressing through the time and... all of that good stuff was awesome and in fact I've played some one-make racing games (World Racing, SCAR, Corvette, Ford Racing) and I really liked them.
NFS Porsche was my first exposure to a (semi) simulator and I played it with a keyboard back then. I like to play it again but it's graphics, specially the resolution of gauge textures in cockpit view is extremely low and outdated now.
NFS Porsche is the only NFS that if they make a remastered version of it with just a little better graphics I'll buy it in a heartbeat to play it with my wheel and I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun.

it looks like a chore because OP was using stock cars. Fully tricked out, you can reach 200+ mph with s-tier cars on some tracks and the cars handle WAY better. The game is basically abandonware at this point, so if you can find it and get it to work on your hardware, I heavily recommend it.

Acho NFSP do PC o terceiro melhor NFS.

NFS ps1 edition it is not that arcade, try it, it is the best ps1 racing game ever, money systen, special events, garage, vehicles from three different eras, car tester storymode, multiplayer game modes like chase, police Chase, capture flag, free roam, unlockable content, lots of different cars, car tuning(suspensión, brake balance, gear ratio) aged cars (when you go to a recent era) are more expensive, custom Plate, up to 4 players multiplayer, real era videos, really good soundtrack, a few tricks on some tracks, tracks themed on real world locations, manual gears if you want, i love this game and the graphics are really good

Also EA managed to get a 16-year exclusivity deal with Porsche back then, which meant Porsche cars could ONLY appear in EA games*, Porsche probably got what they thought was a decent chunk of money for the deal, but I bet they regretted it, after a lot of other games came out paying to licence other car brands for probably a lot more money, that's why in games like Gran Turismo etc, you got RUF cars instead of Porsche cars.
*Unless a company worked out a deal with EA to be a sublicencer

I liked the story mode of the PS1 version better, and the game was easier too.

"Actually, i'm trying to understand why PC NFS Porsche is considered by many to be the best NFS"
When I first played the game age 15 or so I thought what is this for crap, such a slow car!? But slowly and surely things fell on it's place and I began to appreciate the handling and characterization of the car. Alongside the surroundings. When I later looked back at the previous game; Need For Speed High Stakes I thought what a difference. One of night and day. But I loved them both. High Stakes for it's entertaining arcade racing and ofcourse synth-like music and Porsche Unleashed for it's adventure through Porsche, which I fell in love with, and the feel of the car floating through the magnificent tracks.
Porsche I started collecting die-cast cars for and the tracks triggered me to spend my vacations on :-)

If it werent for its excessive oversteer, stiff handling and unfair missions it would be a fun game.
