Jimmy I was at Myrtle Beach when you came from 3 laps down … you are to chill …. Hand down the most exciting race we have every seen when you started making up them laps!!!! If you have never watched it it’s on youtube search Carolina pride 200 Jimmy Spencer
Jimmy doesn't get along with his old mechanic anymore but he still gave the guy credit for being the best mechanic he ever had. That was pretty classy of Jimmy. He could have talked down on the guy but he still gave the guy props for his work
God has blessed Jimmy with alot of friends and family. Jimmy has been blessed in life. I would like to see a video of Jimmy telling stories about his experience with the NASCAR guys from the 1980 and 1990.
His memory is insane. I raced full time from 2013-2017 and I couldn’t begin to recall details like him. I dont know how many I won, when, where, who beat me or who I beat. Thats impressive as hell
Jimmy is for sure one of the very best subjects you have done a video on. He's the type of guy that as a race fan you hang on his every word, he knows exactly how to tell a story and he has a million of them. It's quite simple really, you just turn the camera on and let Jimmy do his thing.
Took the words right out of my mouth with your wrap up. Jimmy hadn't even finished opening the door to a different shop area and had already identified a disassembled roller. Legit car guy.
Jimmy might have been a little mixed up on the DJD last year but man he's in his element here. Cool stuff. I remember him in the Yellow Freight Busch car, always seemed to be in contention.
I'm a long time fan of Jimmy Spencer. As a kid I got to watch him race modified at Shangri-La Speedway along with Richi Evans, Ron Shepard, George Kent, and a host of others. To this day I think those 80s modified were the coolest looking race cars. Thanks for interviewing Jimmy.
I never liked pre-race shows, but when Spencer had one, it was a not miss. He had stories and you could always depend on him to give an honest, politically incorrect view of racing.
Jr Johnson was my 4th cousin I've always been a fan of Jimmy he's the last of a dying breed we definitely need more stories from him a podcast with y'all would be awesome thanks for preserving hidden history keep up the good work
Jimmy MR. Excitement Spencer!! Heck Yeah guys!! Thanks Mitchell and Logan! You guys are the ones saving the stories we all wished we could have experienced when we were watching these guys come up through the series! These guys built the sport and you guys are bringing the history to life!! Thank you so much for what you do! You should be on the download to share the path we've watched you travel to get where your at! Just think of how many more old stories are out there that need to be documented!! Much love to you guys from the Oregon Houlihan's!
That was a great video, like most are. But I've always admired Spencer cause he's a real dude, says what he means and means what he say's. And the fact he's a real car guy, I was thinking almost the same shit he was saying walking through his old shop seeing all those great muscle builds in there. The raw emotion also talking about Dale Sr. and Moroso just elaborates the genuine respect he gave to his peers and it was reciprocated back to him. But again great video 42!
Jimmy Spencer one of the all time greats who defined nascar. Salt of the earth, hard working, badass. Thank you for doing the show. Would like to see more of your history and hear your great stories.
These are the kind of guys we are missing today in NASCAR. Even though Jimmy can be cringe sometimes, he is authentic. Love him or hate him he added excitement no matter what race he was in.
He's part of a bygone era - used to go to MIS in the 90's and alot of the drivers, pit crew guys, and even some of the owners were like him - genuine good guys. Would take time out to talk with you for a few minutes unless they were in the middle of something important.
Hey Mitchell. Jimmy was one of my favorite drivers of that era. He was a better driver than he got credit for because of his temper. But he sure was entertaining to watch in a competitive car. A very skilled driver with great instincts. He loves his cars and seems like such a regular guy, but he is very intelligent. Loved that he didn't take any crap. Just ask Kurt Busch, haha. Another great episode. Thank you and Logan again for another great episode. Bless you brother!
My favorite Jimmy Spencer moment was at Pocono. He was racing for Junior Johnson, and there was a guy in the stands with the top of a McDonalds cooler that he had painted a “27” on it. Every time Jimmy went by on the front stretch the guy would stand up with his cooler top, hold it over his head, and scream “Jiiiiiiiimmeeeeeee” as loud as he could.
It’s so good to see Jimmy Spencer!!! I’ve wondered how’s he doing. I’m glad he hasn’t changed one bit. Thanks Stapleton for being legends of NASCAR back and hearing the stories behind the stories.
Back in the 90’s my buddy ran a street stock painted up smokin joes style 23h gas city Indiana. One Friday night a group of guys came back to the pits looking for my buddy with a picture of his car. As it turned out it was guys off the pit crew of Jimmys wanting his autograph so they could give it to Jimmy , it was Brickyard weekend. Jimmy is the real deal
Brought tears to my eyes listening to Jimmy reminisce about the men who were his mentors and colleagues. I‘m the same age as Jimmy but was in mechanical engineering building heavy equipment. I wish there was someone like you to document the way engineering was “back in the day. Many of my mentors were WW2 vets and had a ton of stories about their old cars and mechanical things in general.
this bring back many memories of the old mod Days Jimmy was a hard man to beat. my Uncle the late Bob Judkins Of the 2X fame with many great drivers and change the mod scene with the pinto that Ed Flemke drove to the most fame along with the Bouchard's . Gene Beorgroen and maybe even Jimmy
One of best interviews ever, Jimmy's memory is incredible! Loved the part about when he left the shop and would concentrate on family. More with JImmy!!
They say time heals all wounds . I read all the comments here and everyone loves Jimmy . Back in the day it was hard to find anyone that had a good word to say about him . He was a very complex person with a short fuse , but just as authentic as they come . He became more popular on TV than he ever was on the racetrack . He will always be remembered as a real family guy .
That's the cool thing about a video like this. You get a chance to actually find out what was going on behind the scenes, the deals, the associations, the successes, the failures. Gives us a different perspective then the brief glimpse we got at the time.
I’m from Bloomsburg and was a Jimmy fan when he ran dirt with he father. Would love to hear him talk about his time on the dirt. I also worked with his sister in law Diana who still is in Berwick. Great people!
Jimmy Spencer was born in the Berwick,Pa area , and I was born just north of him in Wilkes Barre,Pa. I always rooted for him , back when he ran asphalt modified…
Love it Stapleton! Great job, again. Thanks, as always. One of the greatest racing comments that sums him up, "Spencer hits the wall, Keeps on trucking!!"" More with Mr. Excitement please.
Anything else you want to show about Jimmy Spencer is fine with me. I mean anything. I forgot how much I used to love to watch him race. Like he said, even Earnhardt wouldn't mess with Jimmy. Loved to hear what the announcers said when racers got around him. Great video. Thanks Mitchell.
Mitchell you continue to impress and amaze with the people and stories you preserve for posterity! For those of us who lived during those times your video episodes are a great journey down memory lane. “Keep on Keeping on! Tim in northern TN
Jimmy Spencer is one amazing man. At watkins Glen one year he crashed in the inner loop. Right where me and my friends were standing. We helped him climb the fence so he could walk back to the garage area he asked if we were ok cause we got splashed with fluids from the car. He shook our hands said thanks put his cigar in his mouth and walked to the garage. Thanks again Mitchell for another great episode. And Logan great job of doing the ad read.
Always loved watching Jimmy race. Always felt he was one of the more underrated talents of that era. It’s a shame be never got a top tier ride in Cup. He would have been a problem for sure!

I've always liked jimmy spencer, him talking about how he wouldn't change anything and how he cared more about the friends and memories he made than just racing. I'd love to see more from him
Spencer is apart of an exclusive club of drivers to win a truck , Xfinity & a cup race . Not to mention his success in modifieds . #JimmySpencerNeverForgets #MrExictment
Man, this is so friggin' cool. I loved Jimmy Spencer when I was a kid. The 23 Smokin' Joe's car was always my favorite. Thank you both for still doing what you do. It means a lot to a lot of people to see this stuff.
Got to meet Jimmy at MIS in the late 90's. Was coming down pit road wall and asked him to sign my program and ended up talking to him for about 15 minutes. Genuine nice guy all around! Definitely would like to see more from him!👍
My dad use to work for a bank that would finance these racer's shops in the 90s. He got me a few autographs but my favorite was always the #23 Joe Cool yellow and purple thunderbird from Jimmy. Always was my favorite driver until he retired. Cool to hear from him about his days in racing.
As I grew up a NASCAR fan through the 90s as a little 10-year-old boy even I knew that Jimmy Spencer was a guy that you did not mess with unless you were ready for the consequences. We need more drivers like that today there isn’t one driver in the cup series that you would fear like Jimmy was feared. He was right only him and Dale Sr

Hell yes on the hometown video! I also grew up in Berwick, Pa. In fact the Mr. and Mrs. Karothy's, (can't remember the spelling) that Jimmy talked about around the 24th minute of the video were also my teachers at Berwick High School. I graduated from there in '92.
Growing up all my friends were Earnhardt or Gordon fans. But me as a life long Ford fan I always pulled for whoever was in the Wood Brothers car and Jimmy Spencer in the smoking Joe 23 thunderbird!
I just met Jimmies Brother. I had no clue who he was. He was delivering a used engine at my garage. I brought up the nascar race from day before and he said "Im Jimmy Spencers brother". How cool. and this was a month or so ago.
I like your videos, young man and this guy here tells a lot of tails, but he is a legit car guy and he was a good driver. You know those modified up north asphalt modified you come out of that a good driver . Jimmy Spencer was a good driver. I’ve seen many races where he ran up front in the cup and obviously obviously in the bush she want a bunch.

And doesn’t hold back.
Yeah, just ask Kurt Bush at Bristol, I believe it was. 😉😬😬

Jimmy's #23 "Smokin' Joe's Racing" car is still one of the best NASCAR paint schemes of all time.

Definitely more Jimmy if you can. He’s kinda like John Force. Lots of stories, doesn’t care what people think and just naturally entertaining.
He is kinda like John force in that his mind thinks faster than he can say what he’s thinking 😀
Yep, I also compared him to John Force in my comment. When he's in the action, he's cranked up to eleven.

You know those modified up north asphalt modified you come out of that a good driver . Jimmy Spencer was a good driver. I’ve seen many races where he ran up front in the cup and obviously obviously in the bush she want a bunch.
Yes to more Jimmy Spencer videos, please!
