Exactly. 😂

⚠️ BE WARNED. This will also delete the watch hours you earned for these videos. I learned this the hard way. I was almost monetized (5k watch hours and 940 subscribers). After removing the popular videos outside my niche, my watch hours dropped to 350, so I probably won’t be monetized for a long time now.
how long it took you ta get 5k watch hours?

Great video, and great points. I've rarely deleted videos from my channel in the past. Instead, on some of them, I've just changed them to Private (or Unlisted) and moved then to a private playlist temporarily before I make the final decision to delete it. Either way though, I think you've made a lot of great points, and this video was really well done and planned out. Thank you very much for this. Please have yourself a great week. 😊
Thanks so much for this. Now that i think of it,the shorts i made when i started my channel doesn't completely correlate with what my channel is about even though its still in the same circle,i hope i can still fix that mistake. Thanks for all the advice 😊
What is your opinion about making videos unlisted or private instead of deleting them? Would that have the same effect as mentioned in the video?
From the stuff that I have seen, unlisting should have the same effect as it is out from the public RUclips, it will not get any views anymore etc.
@@melonpanforlife my understanding that unlisted or private your views and watch times still count.. if you delete the video you loose the hours and views
@@PokemonShed If you're trying to monetize you're channel, it specifically says 'public' watch hours. So the video has to be public to count towards hours in the last 90 days for shorts and 365 for long form. I've actually tested it last year, youtube may not recount those views once you make the video private then public again. So I would say only private the video to test it out if its less than a year old. Otherwise backup the video so you can reupload it if you want and delete it. It's not really the end of the world if you're still starting and learning.
This happened to me as well. I usually make Vocaloid animation videos then one time I made an Anime opening song animation which the algo promoted a lot. Then the algo shows my other videos and those people aren't interested in vocaloid which makes my views suffer. I also see my videos being suggested in that anime show and also in the analytics it shows the channel related to mine are anime channels of that show. It stayed like that for a few months. That became my channel's identity in the algo's perspective. I could have deleted it but I hesitated.
Same bro I use to play horror games back then but when I move to play Roblox, the algorithm push it to the wrong people... Like a kid horror animation what the hell... I also confused if I delete this video now my watch hour will be gone... Because they got so popular than my most edited video..
This is one of the best, most informative videos I've watched wrt tips or advice on how to grow your channel. Excellent actually. Thanks! This made sense

This video is A-MAZING! It’s a masterclass in relationships and how they can help us self actualize.

Thanks TJ!
Thanks for sharing. I actually made a shift in focus and topics. Wondering if I should pull my channel down and start over
I have a (shorts) video with 2.6M views and it is my main driver for youtube growth but it's a way different video than my actual content. It grows me a lot of audience that's interested in Dragons and King Kong while I make travel and self improvement videos. You're telling me I should delete it?
It depends but yeah in your case it seems kinda needed so the algorithm can get you back on track. I have also a few videos that got a lot of views and is different from my usual content but i dont see any reason deleting them since they're pretty much dead anyway but If your still getting most of your growth from there. Take it down it hurts more than it helps. It pulls the audience you want away from you.
@@TmoTheOne Deleting or Privating/Unlisting is enough?
@@axelsylvian I mean i dont see a reason for keeping it. I would download it if i wanna use it in a different way but i think putting it on private should be enough. You just wanna stop "bad" growth and that should do it.
Thanks very much! I reached 140 subs 3 days ago using your methods. Thank you! ❤

Trying to grow my channel :)
Hey man, I'm a small youtuber and looking to grow further so I can work on it full time. I'm still under 18, and can't afford your course, so I was wondering whether you could give me some quick tips for what I should do next. I've already had 1 video go decently but now I'm afraid my channel is dying. Any help would be appreciated.
Hey Nat, try starting with this complete guide on How to Grow your Channel from 0: ruclips.net/video/VmA-36DC5Bo/видео.html. I lay down everything you need to know to get started here. Hope this helps :)
Marcus, great video! We absolutely love your channel and we've been subscribed for quite some time. Although we're in a completely different niche than you (we're Genx vlogs - laugh, redefine old, reminisce '80s), and obviously we're a completely different age bracket than you, and yet we find your content to be very valuable and applicable for any niche. The way in which you easily explain things and provide solid strategies is so great. We just launched our channel 3 weeks ago and we started off with a relatively decent amount of views for most videos (one of our first shorts got over 1,900 views within a matter of days). But our views and impressions have steadily declined despite the fact we have relatively decent CTR and average view duration for each video. We've tried changing titles and thumbnails and unfortunately that's had zero effect. We'd love to see a video from you on how to revive seemingly dead videos. Thanks for all your work! ❤
Sincerely,
Eric & Tara
I love your way of explaining it's super easy to understand especially when it's with visually examples
Agreed
I have a small channel, but I recently had to create a 2nd channel. My channel has grown to what it is so far by playing survival and open world crafting games. I then tried playing RPG's after a while. None of my subscribers were watching the RPG playthroughs so therefore, they weren't getting promoted or pushed out to more potential viewers. Once I started playing strictly survival games again, my channel has started to grow again. I do have some games on my channel that have done well though that aren't survival games. This video makes me think that even though they've done well, should I go delete them? I love the videos man. What you upload is exactly what I've wanted to see for RUclips research. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the good video. It is important to have information about how the algorithm and youtube works , in order to avoid mistakes.
Thx For The Tips
This Will Help As I Continue Trying To Grow My Channel
Hello first one, Nice video and interesting
Interesting problem solving. Love the explanation.
I had some videos base on giving a review which has nothing to do with what I post on my channel and I have been wondering if I should delete them because they bring the most views to my channel. I unlisted those videos yesterday but I will completely delete them this weekend and see how it works out over time. Thank you for making this video to help me with my decision. Those videos had over 20k views while my other videos arent over 1000 views.
SAME! Finally someone else is confirming how the algorithm sorts. I teach English in Japan by reviewing Japanese celebrities’ English. While looking for J-celebrities who speak English, I stumbled upon some royal family members. So I made a bunch of videos on the royals and they did super well BUT views would tamper off after a week. So I youtube’d how to make better youtube videos and came upon “just stick a bunch of common videos together and make a super video. “ so I took all the royals and made the super video. It had 1.1 M when I DELETED it. After the royal super video, I made the Japanese actors super video and Japanese models super video and while those videos had far better average view duration, they weren’t growing. Then I looked in the analytics audience tab and my audience apparently watches royal family content- it’s it’s own niche. But my channel is “teaching English” which is a clear and separate niche. So I deduced that I need to mark the royals as unlisted so the algorithm can’t feed that audience. A month after deleting, analytics says my audience also watches “learning English” channels. So I THINK my self diagnosis worked and I am in the process of feeding that audience with more super videos. Thank you so much for taking the time to post and confirm my suspicions because NOBODY in my real life actually breathes YT as much as I do so it’s hard to get advice- without paying an arm and a leg 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I think I need to delete most if not my entire library.
I've gone through a rebrand and jumping into a new niche but I have such varying videos that at the time I never realized how the polarizing topics may restrict my growth. This video confirms my theory which also helps me realize why my channel never really grew from uploads that blew up.
Tbh this is so true , i used to get more views before than what i get now due to a viral short, gonna make the changes , thanks man
Do you think that game development and gaming are similar-enough niches to share one channel? Also, does it work the same to set them to unlisted/private instead of deleting them?
So if I want to do variety gaming, what do you recommend? I play 2 types of games, family-friendly(Pokémon, Zelda) and more mature games (Spider-Man, Jedi Survivor, Hogwarts Legacy) Should I have 2 different channels for the different types of games or is it okay to have all games on 1 channel? I mostly livestream games but I make some videos too. Just looking for some advice
Interesting case study! Does this apply to a search-based channel too? Mine is about travel and I don't really have a niche audience. Just people searching for things to do in a city/country.
Good question. No, if you're getting all your views from RUclips search, this doesn't apply as much because you rely more on keywords than RUclips promoting your videos.
@@Marcus-Jones Does that mean for RUclips search or search based videos, then there is never a reason to delete a video?
Been watching several of your video's today and I have found them all very helpful. You said in this one you like to pick one niche. So does that mean if you have say 2 niche's say one is about Star Wars and another is about Elder Scrolls would it be best to make 2 separate channels for these 2 niches? How bout if you wanted to cover investments in the blockchain crypto space, that too would be a separate youtube channel right?
I fully agree with this video. As a gaming creator who started with Kerbal Space Program as a game, and got to 5k subs, then pivoting to medieval naval ships fighting game, got another 4k subs, then player transport Tycoon, got 1k more.
Then my growth stopped. As each new video (doing space on monday, naval on wednesday, tycoon on friday) totally killed my growth (3 subs / week).
Few months ago i decided to completely niche down to only space games, and now growth although slow still shows.
Video is well made and interesting but i would love you to take on a topic of a fully split audience rather then a single video fix as that one is the problem i am facing. (Also if you wanna roast my channel as example you have my full permission :-) )
Awesome content btw, love ur vids
Thanks, it's essentially the sam thing. You have to pick ONE audience you want to serve, and then stop doing all the other things that don't serve them. That can include unlisting any other videos that are bringing in the wrong type of audience.
When I first made my channel it was mainly fishing videos but now I do travel/hiking videos. Would it be advantageous to go back and delete all those old fishing videos. There isn't much (like the first 5 out of my 40ish videos)
Thanks for explaining the details! However, I heard that if you delete too many videos on your channel, RUclips will start killing your new views to your channel due to you maybe deleting a bunch of videos?
Very true I am now looking for solution to this
I have deleted 24 shorts videos in one short, nothing happen to me
🔥🔥🔥🔥👊👊 awesome video brother
Exactly what I'm going through now. 90% of my views came from gaming problems fixes I did a year ago, I did those videos when my channel had about 300 subs, and I never knew that would later become the most watched videos on my Gaming Channel. Now, when I post gameplay video, RUclips shows it to those audience who only came to my channel because of Gaming problem fixes. They don't watch so after 1.5k impressions, my CTR will drop to 3%. My gameplays CTR is always in between 3 to 5.5 after 1.5k impressions. And the algorithm always stop showing it to people after that. Meanwhile, the gaming problem fixes videos are having at least 13.5% CTR .
Now I'm in dilemma, I just got monetized, and the problem fixes videos are getting me revenue, and my main niche for the channel is to post my gameplays, yet if I upload, I get no views.
At least now I know the reason.
Honestly from the looks of it, you're not getting "no views" on your regular gameplay vids. You're actually getting a decent amount for a small channel in less that a year. Personally I would suggest doing more logitech tutorial/setups and game review/comparisons. Also do more shorts like the one that got 1k views on your channel and post more often.
@@1lovelucas Thanks so much for your suggestions.
Very interesting video, I do have one question. Why delete the video and not just set it to private?
I have a question? Do you have to delete it or could I just private all the videos so I can look back at them myself
I have an old short that is still getting views. It's out of my current niche. I privatized it for about a week and my new shorts weren't getting views (or as many impressions). So, I just made it public again. The old videos and shorts that weren't getting views, I've kept private. But, this one that is out of my niche seems to be helping my channel. IDK, still doing some testing with it, but for now it's staying up.
Thank you you help me so much so much i am almost at 700 subscribers 👍your the best man and for any one who is seen this comment I once felt I would never get even 100 subscribers i know it tough but keep pushing and find what kind of content your audience like and always answer them nice and even when it bad just say something nice to them and keep pushing to get better 👍
The Bob Ross clip slayed me
Do I have to necessarily delete them or can I just private them?
Homie should have pivoted to a “SAVE THE BASS” channel.
Once you unlist the video should you deselect the "publish to subscribers" option on any new videos you release?
I think I'm in this situation, I did a horny bait once and it's the only video a get that's really piercing through
I dont think you should
Do you have to delete the videos or can you private them as a test of sorts?
Dude is a genius!!!!
I deleted 3 videos with a couple hundred thousand videos after watching this video. It makes a lot of sense. YT kept promoting the 3 videos which had NOTHING to do with my channel. Im looking forward to seeing if it makes a difference.
You bring up some good points
Thanks for the tips
I FEEL I AM SUFFERING FROM THIS PROBLEM. SINCE THE BEGINING OF THIS YEAR, PROBABLY FROM THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY I HAVE NOTICED THAT MY IMPRESSIONS ARE GETTING LOW AS WELL AS THOUGH CREATING ENTICING THUMBNAILS MY CTR GOES DOWN TO 3-5 PERCENT. BUT THE TOUGHEST PART IS IDENTIFYING WHICH VIDEO TO DELETE WHICH COULD ACTUALLY HELP ME GROW FASTER. COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME OUT?
This is the vid I needed
My question is if a video is unlisted but still on the channel, does it still inlfluences the algorythm ?
Hi GYGC, I'm huge fan of your content and concerning the video i have a question. My most popular video has 117k views and it doesn't fit my style of content. It was an informative/educational video but i mainly focus on entertainment on my channel. It's been a year and the video is still getting 40-50 views every 2 days. Should i still delete that video or is it too late for that now?
@user-jh8dt4el9cthis a scam?
I have several videos like this in different niche over the years.
Thinking of deleting e everything since I just did a rebrand. Have also been contemplating just starting a new channel.
What did you end up doing?
I think this explains exactly what happened to my other channel. I had a video go viral (for me), getting 82K views. My channel only has 167k views. I had a second video similar to the first that 15k views. So 97k views were two videos to my 167k total views. But I'm thinking the subject of the video was misunderstood by the algorithm after watching this video. Because as soon as I posted a new video the views tanked from 10k views a day at peak to under 100 views. For 3 months now none of my videos get over 100 views, my entire channel doesn't even get 100 views no matter what I do, where as previously videos would get 300-500 views the first 2-3 days and some would go over 1000 views. For a new channel I thought this was fine.
But is it worth me deleting two videos that count for 2/3rd of my total views and 1130 of my 1830 watch hours on a channel that is under 1000 subs? I mean my channel is nearly dead, so I want to say yes... but this sucks.
Good video…thanks… ❤

Does unlisting these videos have the same effect or do i need to fully delete them?
Serious Question.
I had a video with 3 million views. It was a Dragon Ball health bar video. It was also killing my channel so I decided to mark it as unlisted. Do I have to fully delete it?
Nah, just unlisting it will be fine.
thanks for sharing this with us

I’m wondering if it’s okay to do both film and music or if I should stick to just one
Only one problem is that the new stations models have been completely removed in the latest update...
GGF
How many views per month on a video would you say is a good point to start thinking about deleting? Most of mine that are out of niche are 2000 views a month or less. Also if the video gets most of its views from search would you still be worried about it still getting views?
Good luck to all new content creators on their journeys to #1ksubscribers 🎉🏆
I’ve been wondering about this and it now makes a lot of sense to me, I made a few videos about a year back that did really well about tears of the kingdom and then I stopped making those videos because I was running out of ideas and I firmly believe that if it’s not the best it can be then I shouldn’t upload it. So every single video that I’ve tried to make after those haven’t got anywhere near the amount of veiws, at first I could barely brake 100 veiws now I can barely break 10. (To give context the vids that did super well had anywhere between 10k-25k veiws) so I might go and delete those videos I’m not sure how badly I want to
I saw that console streaming video advertised to me so often lol.
I have one video which is constantly gaining views from search which in my opinion, has negative impact on my channel since I target suggested views. The video has less than 2000 views which is not a lot but it still targeting "the wrong audience". Should I delete it?

For these types of one-off videos, throw them onto a second channel for such things. For a group of videos, like the streaming ones, create a specialized channel for that. You don't need to delete it from the platform altogether.
Interesting. So are you saying that algorithm actually can be “dumb” and not as clever as we thought? Because this is a big mistake that can happen to be honest. I would be surprised if they would not be aware of this in youtube or working to fix it atm.
First of all that's a huge flaw in the algorithm rhythm which is tilted to 2 pacific metrics Watch time and amount of content you put out. You can have crap videos and produce 2000 videos and RUclips will give you free subscriber growth on their algorithm end and fake views.... The only you can tell wether your content is good or not is will user engagement. I'm a new Ai music channel and I really don't know if this is the best medium for myself.
I appreciate all the hard work that you put into all your videos. Thanks for your time.

OMG!
