- You might recall my previous explorations into Kim Kaphwan's story, delving deep into his connections within the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters timelines. Today, we're doing something different though. We're embarking on a unique journey-a 'What If' scenario. Imagine a different Kim, a departure from his staunch, justice-driven persona. What if circumstances pushed him to the brink of change? In this video, we'll dare to imagine an extreme character development for Kim.

maybe this is the real reason why Najd warned Kim about when sense of justice goes too far
You could combine that what if scenario with Andy’s what if for a heavily dark “fallen wolves” saga.
I got some idea for a semi-evil Andy story. Basically, the gangs in Southtown becomes more violent and makes Andy frustrated that there seems to be no end to it. He realized that what Southtown needs is a unifying figure, like Geese. He didnt want to admit it but Geese did brought peace to Southtown by putting a leash on the ganglords.
This put Andy and Terry on the opposing ends. Because 'absolute power corrupts absolutely', Terry doesn't want Andy to turn into another power hungry tyrant.
I Don’t think SNK would disagree about Kim’s Retelling Stories, Hope Kim and his sons would show up in the upcoming Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be coming soon in 2024!
I heard on NeoGeo Now it is far away….
Personally, I can’t wait
A post about arguably my favorite character in the KOF series on Christmas. Such an amazing present. A dramatic shift in Kim's moral compass would add amazing depth to his character. However, SNK is known for keeping their characters base personality the same throughout the series without much risk. Hopefully this is something they can explore in the future.
This would be a very interesting character shift and i oove the idea of the shift applying to his fighting style as well while the cocky son ha to bring him back. SNK could also throw in his other pupils Chae and May as well as his rival Jhun. Very interesting idea.
A good way to tell this is to make Kang From kof 2000 canon. His sense of justice is that no criminal deserves redemption and is only entitled to a devious beating.
Evil Kim be like: I love crime and punching.
Evil Kim: "I hate good!"
What Kim Kaphwan needs is a lesson in justice. Justice is nice and all but justice requires mercy. Kim doesn't show mercy to evil but he has to at least show some mercy to the good.
Getting prisoners out of prison for rehabilitation is a kind of mercy though
Justice doesn’t require mercy. It requires judgment. Mercy triumphs OVER judgment though. Kim is looking at Justice not too badly. He even puts mercy into his program by teaching Taekwondo instead of letting prisoners rot 😂
Always thought Kyo looked too similar to Kim in terms of face. So imagine my lack of surprise to how his messier long haired look mirrors a taller Saisyu…. I can’t be the only one who’s always seen that…😕😕🤨
He does kinda look like Saisyu
Kim was created first though 😂
@@YophiGames In any case if the right roster provides, I would often make an edited team with Kim, Kyo and Kensou who further complements the similarities. Weirdly enough Kensou despite being younger than both cannonicly, is historically older than both of them! 1986: Psycho Soldier! He even had a slightly different hair style. Ahh well.
@@jordanjackson6151 That actually sounds tight. What would be the theme of the team?
@@YophiGames ….The mop haired protagonist team…. I would’ve added Chris. But face wise he looks different enough. They could have a single framed still image (Dream Match 98 style) that has them at an SNK themed barber shop. Background references of other SNK characters from various series with similar hair walking in and out. Andy Bogard to Kain (Mark Of The Wolves). Mina from Samurai Showdown to Mai. Rob Garcia to Lee Hae Gwon (Agressors Of Dark Combat). Possibilities are endless. It doesn’t even have to rest at fighting games. It could be platformers and fighting games. Here’s a deep cut. Musashi and Kojiro from Ganryu to Haomaru and Ukyo from Samurai Showdown.
"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
I like this idea. I can see this darkness after the death of either of his sons and becomes the TKD version of Akuma. No mercy; only death.
Can't help but wonder if Kim will live long enough to see himself become a villain.
Love this scenarios of what if, it version of Kim can go either way, as you mention the loss of his son triggered him to go the bad route, but it can also make him question his teachings and flaws of his them.
It may even make Kim to start either to change them or be more careful who he chooses to train a bit.
BTW why did you choose to make a "what if" series?
I guess I'm frustrated by the stagnation of many KOF characters.
Not going to lie, when you compare KOF to Street Fighter and Tekken, the side characters need more story to them than just being their usual stereotype.
Hey hey, if we are doing what if's, let me give you some ideas of mine as well.
As you've probably read from KoF XV team stories, in Awakened Orochi team story, Yashiro is complaining about Mature and Vice not really caring about Orochi and liking Iori's company, Yamazaki being nuts and Leona denying her blood, right?
What if, Chris becomes a power hungry maniac, betrays the team to keep all of the Orochi powers to himself? Like, look at that sadistic and mad grin. And in some games, we see Orochi Chris transforming into Orochi sometimes for climax supers. That would cause a civil war between the Hakkeshu, what do you say?
But on the other hand, the idea of obtaining and keeping the Orochi powers is really overused a lot, everyone just wants to keep that Orochi power. So, idk
In the Awakened Orochi Team Ending, only Chris was happy with what happened, as the others got bored. This implies that differing opinions could lead to CYS separating for Yashiro and Shermie actually growing to respect humans for not being boring. Forget Andy and Kim snapping, how about Goenitz snapping for realizing he only has one other Orochi clan member left to trust.
Keeping his twisted justice or going all vigilante Kim still a threat
I really liked the triger event story! Got me very invested! Freeman design by the way always reminded me of Benimaru!
Orochi Kim 😂
Great idea to do what if's Shoryu! I would keep the series going! And that is a awesome thumbnail of Dark Kim! This was like watching Frank Castle turn into the Punisher lol. I hope SNK is paying attention!
Glad you like it!
Merry Xmas. this is similar to Shadow Andy
thx for this wonderful what if story lore. we haven't had that when you last did one for andy.
I can't wait for you to do a story explained video for fatal fury city of the wolves
Honestly I like the idea of KOF What IFs and hope to see more of them in the nearby future starting from next years.
For this one, I liked it albeit given how KOF keeps most characters around one way or another, even going as far as to revive every major previous antagonist via Verse, I think that rather than killing Jae Hun, it’d make more sense for him to instead end up in a Coma where he’s unlikely to wake up from any time soon which could still push Kim into the dark side, or if killed then he’d eventually be revived somehow because, again, that’s usual in KOF.
Regardless I can actually see this near death experience against this more ruthless Kim and learning what happened to his son actually make Chang and Choi more likely to switch sides if only to try and stop Kim from becoming even worse, ironically going down the path of Redemption that Kim was trying to teach them prior.
Another character I could see try to help Kim is definitely Jhun whom wouldn’t want his old friend to taint his legacy and throw his connections towards family and friends away.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!
Thank you!
KOF deserves a to have a Dark Story/Narrative instead of always rehashing the same generic formulatic Writing since the past 3 Sagas, the recent Saga from KOF 14 to 15 lacked so much Impact and wasted Oppertunity, no Characters were killed off besides the Villains, Concepts they don't properly introduced and Plot Points that go nowhere,
Which is why it needs to go on a different Direction.
Jae Hoon is my main in Mark of the Wolves
And i like Kim's anti hero design. It reminds me of that one guy in that Cowboy Bebop OVA.
Can you bring back the captions?
13:36 I hope this design will be in a Canon Kof.
Thanks mate for this video, it's been a long time :D
Actually i also thought of similar scenario about Kim.
Except this one is triggered by the death of Choi in the hand of super villain (in level such Orochi/Rugal/Goenitz) right after the two criminals reconcile with Kim and returned under his wing. This tragedy made Kim realize how his sense of justice was never enough to give him the power he need to protect people from evil and especially what he believe to be the source of power this whole time.
After that Kim went missing. His sons and disciples searched him all over the world including in KoF, but Kim was nowhere to be found.
Couple years later Kim shows up as single contestant in KoF. There, he looks different, he went an unimaginable hell of training to push/punish his lack of power. He is now prefer to be a loner, kept his distance from his former friends, and he's now targeting evil opponents like a madman. His move set is now simplified-one hit-deadly type and less acrobatic.
Chang also changing after he lost his partner in crime and his master figure after the tragedy. He became a Buddhist monk and now using his bare fist to fight in KoF. His real mission is to find and save his master from demise.
Nice What if man. Actully i could see a story like this be in a Spin off. But it is just a What if for now. I do hope a stroy like this gets into the KOF/FF games
I mean he is essentially a justice zealot where he tries to achieve an altruistic good pursuit of justice with no compromise.
Well Choi and Change are afraid of him and think he is sadistic...Soooooo
I enjoyed this so much I hope their will be more I think the forgotten roaster of Snk as would give you so many ideas
Happy holidays and a happy new year 🎆 Shoryugame 😊
Thank you!
Yeah I'd like to see that version of Kim kinda reminds me of Miguel from the tekken series
its all black and white with this dude , or maybe unless he experienced something REALLY BAD happened to him when he was young that we don't know of
one of the major problems with kof ; they keep focusing on the main storylines and neglect the side characters , they will never see the light of day (especially art of fighting and korea teams , while fatal fury team are put in a neverending alternate reality where they have yet to defeat geese like WTF) if you won't elaborate on their share of the cake then why bother keep bringing them back every single year ,why for the record attendance like kyo scoffed at terry during their dialogue in kof XIII ? and tbh the story with kof XV was decent at best and doesn't compare to 97 or XIII something has gotta give in the future
IDK why but I sense some ChatGPT writing here haha
I can see this as a series on your channel. Not necessarily a “what if” character in the past, but what if the character’s future was affected heavily.
The EX characters were a bit different, sometimes being antagonists, so this could be an EX Kim Kaphwan. I love the idea of a fall from grace story. It brings depth to Kim AND Dong Hwan, as he takes it upon himself to stop his own father.
Daddy Kim... from TKD Justicar to someone akin to a Justice Lord
Lady Justice is portrayed as a blind woman holding scales of balance, and that path might be encountered by Kim.
While I personally would be excited to see Kim go dark I also feel like it would be more interesting to do so by pushing him out of his comfort zone of redeemable human villains and forcing him to confront the strange and supernatural aspects of the KoF world as well as the less virtuous (though not necessarily villainous) characters that deal with them. What I'm trying to say is that a team including Kim and Iori would be insane.
That's a neat idea! Maybe Kim could develop a more "pragmatic" approach to fighting than one that is idealistic and elegant. Like becoming slightly less lean and fast but more muscular and strong. As well incorporate as illegal techinques forbidden in Tae Kwon Do, like using muay thai flying knees, leg grapple (like Blue Mary or Luong's neck break with the thighs). Maybe a super where he takes you down and punches you savagely similar to Ralph or Iori. Or stompping his opponents face when fallen. Maybe even going as dark as having a sharpen nail of different color in his hand to do a poison super attack with it. That would implly that his fall into darkness has caused him to be a little bit like Freeman who also uses his nails to attack.
"Aku wa yurusan... HAH!!!"
Yeah, he's got a bit of a one-track mind, for sure.
I had no idea all this happened to kim ....it's quite a change hope to see him in the next fatal fury game
It would surely add a new dimension to the Kim's character arc, which the creators of the game must consider. Because Kim's character needs to evolve more than it did. And his character (if used properly) could be the hot storyline in the upcoming versions. Awesome concept tho
One of the greatest characters, good job.
I loved your recap of Final Fight. Hoping you’ll be to do Streets of Rage.
Nice job Shoryu nice 👍
Thank you 😄
What if Series for KOF would be great
This is a cool idea, but if this happens maybe it can be tied into the Kagura Mirror and it can show reflections of what could happen. It's a very interesting concept...would you have one for let's say...what if Rugal or Geese swaped industries and became more focused on less evil or no evil?
Merry christmas🎉
I've gotta say, you make some pretty interesting "What If" scenarios. This and Andy's were pretty neat ideas, not because I want them to "become evil" but because I think it does make sense, given their backstories.
Glad you think so!
I would love to see that.
Cool idea
Glad you think so!
As a gamer. I don't mind kim have this type of form. Which is quite unique.
I'd be down for that! I've actually wondered this myself. But I was thinking that if Kim was going to "switch sides" it'd be THROUGH his sense of justice. Not much unlike how we see those "keyboard warriors" harass people THEY deem as "bad" or "evil". Recent examples I can give are the ones that went after Girlfriend Reviews for streaming a video game or even MORE recent the doxxing of the creator of "The Coffin of Andy and Ley Ley". All Kim really needs to turn is a lack of self awareness.
That being said, though I actually enjoyed this story and wouldn't mind seeing it become official. My complaint about Jae-Hoon was that he mirrored his father too closely, and that told me that we weren't gonna see Kaphwan in Fatal Fury again. Pretty sure I'm gonna be proven wrong in the next installment, but I at least want Donghwan back! Maybe they can rework Jae-Hoon like ArcSys has been doing with some of the Guilty Gear characters so we can have the whole family back....
I missed watching your channel lol i js got really busy with life anyways
Second, because World Heroes 2 is that game tbh
We do it better than SNK :D
+1 for the story but sadly that also means he will lose his godly pants. We can give Kim a new move set and give his son the legacy move set with kim's costume as a nod to his story, he's keeping his father ideology alive.
And to top it off, snk took his pants animation
Great theory! Seeing Kim going from lawful good to chaotic good seems really interesting.
Also I was wondering, did you use AI art during 14:23 and 14:40? If it is, please don't use it because it steals art from real artists (including the ones that work at SNK).
2:47 Which game is this?
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special.
@ShoryuGame I'd accept all of this Under the condition that he'd wear a mask like he was going to in KOF maximum impact 2 like mr.Karate
The vigilante Mr.TKD and him also falling into the trope of (failing at) making any one believe they are 2 different people
A dark Kim would be a great for juri Han of street fighter
I think you meant Juri
@@NoelJohnCarlo yeah sorry as for dark Kim he be more hajime saito from Rurouni kenshin slay evil immediately no mercy
I would like a K Drama on or Kim Kaphwan
There must be a Mugen version of this Kim already lol
Why do I feel like this video could be aimed at a different figure with baggy clothing who judges based on good or evil?
I know I already said "it takes just one bad day" before in the Comments section to change a man, but
personally Cheng Sinzan's kick to the nuts in Fatal Fury the Movie is what will affect Kaphwan's outlook in life.
But his original white pants will turn him back to good.
What if his pants got stolen?
It was already replaced in KOF XV. And his downward spiral has begun, hence the black uniform. LOL
SNK only mastered the cloth physics for Unreal when they released Goenitz.
I have a feeling SNK will make a DLC for Kim's King of Pants. Like Poppy without Galford.
I would like a part two with the redemption arc. Like this comment.
Y'know, this idea is pretty corny on the surface and while I don't think its perfect I do like a lot of the ideas put forth. The idea of a grieving Kim being placed as some kind of vengeful anti-hero reminiscent of Kim Hae-Ryeong from SamSho Sen is pretty interesting, especially with how Kim Kaphwan's story is essentially the inverse of Hae-Ryeong's
Kinda like Cody from Final Fight
Tbh, I think Kof could use some of these transformations for characters and their stories because things can become stagnant in this regard and Kof is no exception. This isn’t just exclusive to Kof though.
Evil Kim woulda been FIRREE!!! KIM KAPHWAN WITH NO RESTRAINT???
This is a good way to give the characters something extremely meaningful to do as from just competing in in another again in my humblest opinion. Have something serious happened to them. Something that does just lets them do the exact same thing they have already been doing.
Evil Kim would be cool!
aaand what if he makes pact with OROCHI and turns into ferocious form lol
But Kim was never directly involved with the Orochi clan.
@@ShoryuGame yes, but just like geese is after orochi's power and how goenitz granted rugal some orochi blood I think if kim gets it too that'd be a sight to behold haha
❤
i would love to see "dark kim😈👿" in future KOF games.
Kim Kaphwan: The Original SJW
LOL not even close 😂
Pissing of the people who wanna be first
bro is hard man
interesting video, but please refrain from use of ai art
i understand if you dont have the money to commission artists but ai art actively harms artists
Very disappointed in the use of AI art in the video. Could have easily commissioned or collaborated with an artist, but the AI art leads me to an immediate unsub
