One thing that I love about KoF, is that character stories are the same from their original games until KoF starts, so Terry still is the winner of Fatal fury's tournaments, while the Sakazaki's clan still the master of their karate style, I had never played Art of Fighting before KoF, so I was totally lost of their backstory at first, this was a master move by SNK, the game instantly had massive lore behind it And the Orochi saga is still the best saga of any fighting game to date, although there was some things missing here, like it was Ralf and Clark that stopped Leona's riot of the blood state in 97, but overall this video is great

I really like the part where Mature and Vice betrayed Goenitz as they "liked Iori's company" as a 12 year old playing this game I always perceived Iori with the hair, looks and saxophone(?) to be good with the ladies. Seems I was right all these years. lol
Years of trying to find unusual/'different' MUGEN characters and only bumping into your standard brash youth with a troubled backstory and future ambitions *cough* from street fighter, King of Fighters, and, er, anime fighting games... has made me wonder what the hell the story was behind that 'Orochi' guy. I needed this one, thank you. Including parts of actual fighting game footage as parts of the story explanation was a nice touch.
Seeing people talk about Orochi in a non Mugen context is weird to me. However, it is nice to know the actual origins of the character that inspired so many edits.

For a long time I thought Yuki was successfully sacrificed and when she said she'll wait for Kyo, that meant she was waiting for him in the after life. A much more bittersweet ending. His girlfriend is dead, but he saved the world. To be honest, that sounds like a better ending, but I'm still happy with what actually happened.
I wanted to make a king of fighters story. But the reality has to be more mortal kombat esque there. And I could’ve written where Kyos girlfriend was sacrificed to Orochi and despite saving the world, he lost his young love of his life. That he would try to be serious at what loved ones should be saved. Maybe respect to his team Japan teammates and maybe Iori, his rival and Chizuru, his allied clan heiress. L
No, Yuki is NOT dead. Even Yashiro said that Yuki is one of the 8 Kushinadas to be sacrificed. She's the one who escaped. Also, even the spirit of Yagami's ancestors tell Kyo to protect Kushinada
I love how as a big fan this feels like sort of a weird feeling of spoiling myself the next KoF Destiny seasons, that i already know lol. I won't be watching more since i don't wanna spoil myself - mysterious gray haired guy with the red glove - and - flamboyant red dressed guy with the green flames - "they seem cool who might they be" lol
I wish Gaidel was in KOF I mean he would of been a nice character since they mentioned him as a Hakkeshu and also possessed the power of water. KOF has too many people using fire its kinda funny.

My God... As a kid, playing KOF 97, I was clueless to all these stories. Knowing the story of this legendary saga, everything hits differently now. And I could beat the game with just one coin. That's how much I played and practiced :P
There are some mistakes. 1. Orochi first came into being 1800 year ago before the Kof 95, not thousands of years ago. 2. 660 years before Kof 95, not after Orochi was sealed, the seal started to weaken. 3. Rugal was not a potential vessel for Orochi. Rugal after seeing Goenitz powers, wanted Orochi powers for himself. Just saying. Been playing kof series for over 2 decades so know a thing or two. Hope that clears up few things.

I guess I knew about Kyo and Iori and Chizuru being the SNK Triforce of sorts, but that's about it, thanks for all the details. It's a very rich and consistant plot. As opposed to so many other games. I love Street Fighter, but they should do the same, skip years in between games, create narrative arcs to actually be excited about, and have their characters evolve. It moved a bit in V but they keep retconning themselves in order to include characters that first appeared in the future of the canon. It doesn't always have to be about Ryu and his power. It's been 30 years and Ryu has the same gi and his quest is always the same, 'keep it cool'. Maybe he can finally master it for good and move on? Let someone else be the focus. Necalli was whack. They did OK with Rashid, but eventually the story revolved back to Bison and the Psycho Power and the Satsui no Hadou and Guile and Nash and Chun-Li's Dad and basically go watch Street Fighter the Movie. This game is set before III and is supposed to bridge the story from Bison to the Illuminati. Let's hope VI picks up after III, so that we can finally get out of this mess.
I needed this, Ive first played 97 when I was younger, but thats all I knew when it comes to the story, just the events of 97 and some extra stuff here and there like the fact that Ash stole Iori's flames.. thats all. Also, sidenote, I recognized the arabian accent, I tried to see which country you're from, and lo and behold both of us live in the same country lmao.
I would like to see a samurai showdown lore. reading up on a few things on that game I realize that Samsho has very interesting plot up to part 4 oh and the last blade 1and 2 another deeply interesting fighting game from snk game. Great video by the way I was looking for something like this for KOF for along time.
I only ever played KOF XIII, and even then I barely played on story mode, so I know literally nothing about what's going on with the plot and I'm not good enough at the game to find out lmao. With another KOF coming out soon, I'm hyped and wanna understand the whole story, so I'm really glad this video series was made! I'm also really glad the videos aren't too long and focus on one thing at a time, because I have ADHD and therefore a longer video would have been really tough for me and my brain. Hi, Very Awesome explanation, I would like to add more information about the Orochi Saga, Did you know that Chris, Yashiro, and Shermie of USA A.K.A The New Face Team, Kill the Orginal U.S.A. Team, the athlete team i think KOF 94, and also They only Join KOF 97 it is becuase they saw to the advertise that Iori will join that Year... and the reason why Yashiro, got angry with Iori, it is because Iori, have a band name YCS, the event organizer, 1st reserved YCS Band to perform, the event organizer didn't know the detail that the 1st Reserved YCS Band is for Yashiro, Chris, and Shermie, and the event organizer give the performance to YCS Iori's Band, the credit of fame that makes Yashiro burning desire to crush Iori, and the KOF 97 event is only fate, that they are the member or bloodline of Orochi... KOF is its own canon. It ignores most of the Fatal Fury canon. The original timeline is this... Art Of Fighting (and sequels), Fatal Fury (and sequels) and ends with Garou: Mark Of The Wolves. That’s the original and official Fatal Fury Timeline. KOF is it’s own timeline that happens to have characters from Art Of Fighting, Fatal Fury and Garou in it and has its original characters. However their history and origins are changed in this one. And some of their personalities are a bit different. But not too different.
ShoryuGame Well they made slight changes to the Fatal Fury and Art Of Fighting characters stories to fit into the KOF timeline. Even their personalities and slightly altered.

Great vid man. Just a small correction though - Team Japan actually beats the New Faces Team according to the kof wiki. The Sacred Treasures team form during the orochi fight. I think it kinda makes sense that the New Faces Team fought Team Japan as they are counterparts to each other and control the same 3 elements of fire, lightning and earth.

One thing I never understood is the ending where you play as The New Face team, beat Orochi, and then Yashiro proceeds to kill Chris and Shermie and then himself to give energy to Orochi. Why did he kill Chris if he was the vessel to Orochi?
If you played as that ending, the Regular New Face Team are alternate copies of the Real Orochi Trio team. Orochi Chris was the vessel to Orochi, the copy of Chris(regular Chris) seems unable to awaken, just like Shermie and Yashiro. To answer the "Why would they fight Orochi" part: Orochi requested them to fight him to gather even more energy to awaken Orochi even further, but in doing so, they accidentally killed him(somehow...). Then Yashiro killed them to hopefully give enough energy to resurrect him again. That's just my take on it, though. I could be completely wrong.
@@dave9020 sounds about right. They needed a plausible reason for new face to fight themselves so they made up a clone plot and have them fight orochi so he can get stronger.
My dream KOF game is for SNK to revisit the Orochi Saga. But the last boss should be Orochi as an 8 headed snake. The battle could be like against Shizuka of SS 2019.

Orochi (yamata no orochi) is a mythological beast that existed at the creation of Japanese history, so it is well before 1800 year before kof95.

I would like to see a samurai showdown lore. reading up on a few things on that game I realize that Samsho has very interesting plot up to part 4 oh and the last blade 1and 2 another deeply interesting fighting game from snk game. Great video by the way I was looking for something like this for KOF for along time.
I only ever played KOF XIII, and even then I barely played on story mode, so I know literally nothing about what's going on with the plot and I'm not good enough at the game to find out lmao. With another KOF coming out soon, I'm hyped and wanna understand the whole story, so I'm really glad this video series was made! I'm also really glad the videos aren't too long and focus on one thing at a time, because I have ADHD and therefore a longer video would have been really tough for me and my brain. Thanks for making this!

Hi, Very Awesome explanation, I would like to add more information about the Orochi Saga, Did you know that Chris, Yashiro, and Shermie of USA A.K.A The New Face Team, Kill the Orginal U.S.A. Team, the athlete team i think KOF 94, and also They only Join KOF 97 it is becuase they saw to the advertise that Iori will join that Year... and the reason why Yashiro, got angry with Iori, it is because Iori, have a band name YCS, the event organizer, 1st reserved YCS Band to perform, the event organizer didn't know the detail that the 1st Reserved YCS Band is for Yashiro, Chris, and Shermie, and the event organizer give the performance to YCS Iori's Band, the credit of fame that makes Yashiro burning desire to crush Iori, and the KOF 97 event is only fate, that they are the member or bloodline of Orochi... I hope this info help

KOF is its own canon. It ignores most of the Fatal Fury canon.
The original timeline is this...
Art Of Fighting (and sequels), Fatal Fury (and sequels) and ends with Garou: Mark Of The Wolves. That’s the original and official Fatal Fury Timeline. KOF is it’s own timeline that happens to have characters from Art Of Fighting, Fatal Fury and Garou in it and has its original characters. However their history and origins are changed in this one. And some of their personalities are a bit different. But not too different.
ShoryuGame Well they made slight changes to the Fatal Fury and Art Of Fighting characters stories to fit into the KOF timeline. Even their personalities and slightly altered.
@@ShadowrulzalwaysArt of Fighting 1 and 2 are canon to KOF except 3, though the gap from Fatal Fury is reduced from 10 years to most likely a couple of months, then Fatal Fury 1 and 2, but not 3, Real Bout and Mark of the Wolves. Art of Fighting 3, Fatal Fury 3, and Real Bout Fatal Fury, all three of these games except Mark of the Wolves are canon only to KOF Maximum Impact, because it's intended to be a continuity of Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury.

Great vid man. Just a small correction though - Team Japan actually beats the New Faces Team according to the kof wiki. The Sacred Treasures team form during the orochi fight. I think it kinda makes sense that the New Faces Team fought Team Japan as they are counterparts to each other and control the same 3 elements of fire, lightning and earth.

One thing I never understood is the ending where you play as The New Face team, beat Orochi, and then Yashiro proceeds to kill Chris and Shermie and then himself to give energy to Orochi. Why did he kill Chris if he was the vessel to Orochi?
That ending is not canon. Why would they fight Orochi in the first place.
If you played as that ending, the Regular New Face Team are alternate copies of the Real Orochi Trio team. Orochi Chris was the vessel to Orochi, the copy of Chris(regular Chris) seems unable to awaken, just like Shermie and Yashiro.
To answer the "Why would they fight Orochi" part: Orochi requested them to fight him to gather even more energy to awaken Orochi even further, but in doing so, they accidentally killed him(somehow...). Then Yashiro killed them to hopefully give enough energy to resurrect him again.
That's just my take on it, though. I could be completely wrong.
@@dave9020 sounds about right. They needed a plausible reason for new face to fight themselves so they made up a clone plot and have them fight orochi so he can get stronger.
