I am beyond excited to begin our first 4th grade classroom transformation! My partner teacher and I will be combining our classrooms this Friday for a full day of Pirate learning! This video covers the beginning prep work that we have done. Pirates are a nasty bunch...but FUN! Watch as we prep our room and go over our wayward sea adventure!

I'm very envious of duty-free lunch & recess! We have to not only go to the cafeteria with our kids but sit with them to monitor behavior, as well as clean up dropped plates, spilled drinks, & help keep their lunch line moving. Recess is fairly new for us, & is the teacher's responsibility as well. Love watching you teach!

looks exciting!!! cant wait to see! Do you get reimbursed for all the theme stuff you buy? interested to know different policies..I always want to do so many things in my classroom but there is only so much that we get paid back for.
+P Oamen - No we do not get reimbursed. This was something my partner teacher an I wanted to do for our students.
Will your pirate theme be for purchase in your teacher pay teacher store? I'd love to be able to do it with my kids.
I'll try and put the part I created up on my store this weekend. Parts of the Math documents were purchased, so I will have to see.

:) I use PowerPoint or Keynote (Mac Version) for pretty much everything.
Do you think all your kids will be successful????

Love your Vlogs! I heard you refer to you students as "friends" at one point. I have heard a number of teachers in the US do this recently. Is this a new trend or does it relate to some kind of new program? I was just curious as I have only noticed it this year.
I suppose I still just use their names or say boys and girls or some such things. But I have heard the word "friend" used in place of gender specific words and I wondered if it was a new "politically correct" term.
This is an Elem/MS thing. I teach HS and I have never heard any of my colleagues call our kids, "friends."
Did you create the tasks or did you purchase them?
I created some and some were purchased. I created all of the reading tasks. I will put them on my store this weekend....hopefully.
What time does school start? What time do you get there? It looks really dark
I have to be there at 8am...I try and get there by 7:30...sometimes earlier.
