Thoughts of Dad: If you spend the majority of the day chasing children and helping your wife stand up, but like to hit a few black diamonds before the lift closes, that 90ish range, little on the longer side, is a pretty good option. Also, consider something with a nod toward being a twin tip. It’s nice to be able to ski backward and check on your family.
People did ski powder before fat skis existed. People ski the groomer on the way back to the lift after a powder run. It comes down to skill level. If you are good at ski fundamentals you can take whatever and shred. No bad days 😄
Yes I agree that waist width is very important in starting a turn but less rocker, tip shape/ taper and a forwards contact point are also important factors. Look a Volkl Deacon 84 compared to a Nordica Enforcer 94. I ski both models and entire shape of each ski is very different. It’s like looking at a Corvette and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
cant decide between the qst 98 or 106. I think wider skis make you try harder to get on edge and carve thereby giving you more control (when turning or whatever you're doing).
It depends on the snow conditions you ski frequently. When I lived in SLC and skied Alta 98 under foot was my everyday driver and 108 under foot was for days over 8” of powder. In NE I ski 88 under foot for everyday and something like 94-102 when it actually snows.
Perhaps title should be,, How to choose ski model..? Most skiers buy skis they dream to ski on,,, Not on ski they ski mostly on… So you see eastern skiers on +100 mm skis on hard icy slopes,, Thuuuu!
Your comments and observations are so so correct..
Most skiers do not do their homework and truly admire how and where they skis..

Yeah. I feel you. They should have a dad-category.
Just purchased Line Blade Optic 92. Eastern Canada. Intermediate skier. Hoping not too wide.

It's crazy how many skis each brand has and going up in 4 or 5mm width intervals!

Whats your thoughts on the qst 98 for an everyday ski in Colorado for a intermediate skier?
