17 years old he loved singing and playing that guitar. This was truly a tragedy all the way around. Just think of the music we missed out on. He was just starting out. So sorry this happened to you Richie. Boney Maronie is my favorite. You left this world way to soon.

Ritchie Valens regrettably was almost forgotten in the sixties (happened the same to Holly, the Big Bopper and Eddie Cochran). Sadly that innocence was lost with the political assassinations, drugs, Vietnam , the venenous influence of the Frankfurt School in education and above all, with the guys from Liverpool. I don't think that any respectable hippie would have that (then) outmoded music in his car. He would have been considered "square".

Ritchie's songs always sounded like unfinished demos. His vocals are faint and sound horrible at times. And you could tell he was from the streets, because he does not pronounce his words. He chops them up like a lil kid would. Not too articulate.

      Come on let’s go
      Donna
      La bamba
      Stay besides me
      Hurry up
      Cry cry cry
      Ohh my head
Just to name a few 22 original songs in 8 months and 33 total
Sound way better than most other artist not to mention he was only 16 and he already had multiple hits on the top charts he was a legend and he accomplished that in less than a year so shut your ignorant ass down

The vocals are perfect and sound a lot more experienced than a 17 year old.
The dude had The Gift. It's undeniable.
We're not listening to the same cuts.
There's nothing you can criticize about his recordings. They're perfect

Ritchie likely overdubbed guitar with his own bass playing using bass strings of his guitar
