Paul Gilbert just wants to teach the world to guitar. He's done an amazing job throughout his life and continues the good work to this day!!! 100% awesome dude.
Great guitar player/musician and a great guy he was one of the guitarist that remind you how much fun the guitar can really be. He helped bring me back to guitar

That is absolutely untrue. The way you perceive, that is. He most definitely out in a fucking TON of practice. You're just seeing the results of said practice. And that's not to take anything away from his massive talent, either. It's not hard to find vids where he talks about woodshedding like a mf
Rápido, técnica limpa e precisa, muito musical, expressivo, simplesmente um GUITARRISTA Incrível !! Paul Gilbert, nós do Brasil adoramos seu trabalho!!!
Thanks Paul, I started with this video in the 80's and just had hand surgery for Trigger finger at age 59, Hell yeah it was worth all the time I spent with your videos.
Well...this might be the greatest thing I ever saw. A mariachi band introduction Paul Gilbert in a sambero And a green screen freak out Yes it is the greatest thing ever. And I don’t play guitar just bass lol Thanks to the RUclips algorithm for this!
Luka Baule lol he managed to top himself. The bike one is great. It’s like out of a romantic comedy or something lol Bonus for spelling his name with road signs lol
I got news for you - that restaurant in the background at around 3:45 is on Sherman Way in North Hollywood. It’s called Salsa and Beer and it’s the best Mexican food in LA.
My wife told me Paul Gilbert's playing was too fast and sounded like a big mess to her... I looked at her with tears in my eyes, because I knew this meant I would have to divorce her...
Why is there a scene of a washing machine graveyard. What kids thought were cool back in those days. lol. I think he got good by playing along with hundreds of washers and dryers all running at once .
I was just thinking the same thing. Literally. I was thinking, boy even with RUclips, and Cracking The Code, and all the amazing resources we didn't have when we were kids, this is still about as good as it gets. Brilliant.
I took lessons from a guy who Paul had asked during a studio session for the details of what he had just played. I take pride in that, even though I can't even approach the speed of Paul lol.
Nice, Paul signed my Fender USA in Hollywood at guitar center like 9 years ago, wow time flys. He has a lot of history with some of my Band friends, nice cheerleaders btw
The cool thing about this video and what he is teaching you is, you really can make it your own and play these riffs and runs through your own sound and your own style. It sounds 90s and that was the cool thing at one time for a lot of people, but I’m imaging this technique through a vintage fender amp and a good ol les Paul minus the squealing and just clean. Thank you for this video. Great guitar playing. Now all I need to do is find the time to practice these exercises. Haha. ✌️
I love the guys that watch George Lynch and say hes a "genius". Paul IS a genius and the nicest rock star I think I have ever met. He doesnt bury his playing in a bunch verb and delay, he's as clean as clean gets, tight smokin speed and accuracy!
Gilbert is a faster picker and has great style but Lynch has a very unique style and in his Dokken days wrote some incredibly interesting and tasteful solos with that diminished fifth and amazing pinch harmonics all over the place, They are both great players but don't bash lynch.
Yep, personally i consider Gilbert the best rock/metal guitarist that ever existed, totally proficient in power-pop, blues, jazz and stuff too... And yes, the cleanest and most accurate playing around, at any speed, with a pure thin tone that doesn't allow mistakes, no one like him, true genius...
Awesome instructional video. I still have all my VHS instructional videos from the early 90s. Paul Gilbert, Frank Gambale, Eric Johnson and Al Di Meola. The things is, it was the little tab book that came with the video that was synonymous with gold. Even though you can find all of those exercises if not most online I can't bring myself to throw it out. I still have tons of guitar one and guitar world magazines. Shredder 4 Life
Haha, well put! With that being said. His pedagogy has improved. He continues to inspire and excites so many new players. Love Paul, such an amazing ear!
@vlaskz then you're either not paying attention or not trying. There's a fkn wealth of incredibly useful information here. Exciting lesson for sure. And I also feel like there are basically two types of guitarists. 1) those that see exceptional talent, get discouraged & wanna burn their shit. And 2) those that see it & get super inspired. Def glad I'm not that way. Whether it's a small child absolutely fuckin shredding or a geezer ripping up some bluesy pentatonics, it motivates the hell out of me. Speaking of, I can't wait to get home & try to cop some of this and improve my playing

Had some good flashback seeing this again! I personally never liked Paul's tone tbh, very noisy and screammy sound for the ear, but damn, that guys is a legend and taught so much incredible and technical stuff! No doubt he is one of the best guitarist out there, and remains still today.
It terrifies me to appreciate Paul Gilbert was doing this 27 years ago and then he was 100 times better than I am now. Really there is no hope for me. Plus he has really developed as a musician since then, too, I would say.
My classmate borrowed my VHS tape of this back in high school and he never returned it ever since. *He currently plays in a death metal band while I play the rhythm section in a blues garage band with my dad and relatives.*

I watched almost all these older guitar instructional videos, and Paul has the best ones. He's just so funny and a great teacher.

This and Intense rock guitar 1 were two lesson tapes that really helped me get my picking great and watching them made me want to get better!

I love Paul Gilbert
I jammed with him a couple times and he actually asked about a lick I played
He’s a great musician and teacher
Now more then ever
Paul was at his peak here, this time of his youth, full of vim and vigor and brain melting chops!
1:47 I find it amazing he can skate in high speed and play guitar down a highway at the same time!!! What can this guy not do???
The legendary “Screaming Blues O’Mania” ending- Ahead of his time, always- awesome stuff Paul!
Best guitar teacher and player on all of RUclips in my opinion. Great instructional video.
One my first lessons on youtube that opened up so many doors for me, god bless Paul Gilbert. Frigging OG master!

This is the greatest instructional video ever made...
It's the backgrounds that keep me enjoy. Haha
I love this guys playing - you can tell it’s him instantly with his unique style and tone
His pick atack is very unique
Yet he will say he focused so much on playing clean, he has no style lol

Paul always makes the most entertaining instructional video's.
Somehow I had never heard of this guy until a few months ago. Man what a cool guy.
The lick of the second 54 is crazy !!! It's amazing
He use this lick in the intro of Colorado Bulldog. Ascending and descending.
I got news for you - that restaurant in the background at around 3:45 is on Sherman Way in North Hollywood. It’s called Salsa and Beer and it’s the best Mexican food in LA.
Paul Gilbert casually swerving the I-5 at 60 mph on a NOS-rigged Ninebot is the final boss of my morning commute
13:46 LOVE this sequence. I can do it if I start on an upstroke (since I'm more comfortable downward pickslanting).
My wife told me Paul Gilbert's playing was too fast and sounded like a big mess to her... I looked at her with tears in my eyes, because I knew this meant I would have to divorce her...
she has got a point though ...
Don't listen to her, terrible taste in pretty much everything is in a woman's dna
Gary Moore had no trouble playing that fast but, he did it with profound emotion not speed for the sake of speed !
