I spent all my money on revives and potions. A strat I still use today because of Cynthia. Funny enough. I had trouble clearing Flint, let alone Cynthia, so makeing it to her hurt. That said, I still do that. Even when I first fought Leon, I used all my money to buy stuff to bring my team back. Cynthia also taught me to use more than just my starter to clear through. I used my starter in every fight until Cynthia slapped some sence into me. I only remember the fear of Cynthia because of this. I think I repressed most of the memories.
That kind of stuff is always memorable. I love when cpu opponents pull out shit like this. Leon *absolutely juking* me a couple times during the champion fight in Shield had me laughing. "Okay, he brought out Charizard, so let's bring out Drednaw against it. He's water/rock, should be able to resist anything he has" Leon: G-Max Grass "...clever motherfucker"

Fun fact: all of Cynthia’s pokemon have perfect IV’s and are EV trained in their appropriate stats. This, combined with the fact that she is the first champion since Blue to not have a team based on a particular type, makes her a serious challenge especially for young people. Your memory is correct; she was very difficult.
@Butt Bits Out of the starters he’s definitely the best against Cynthia in D/P. But he needs to be high enough level or he can easily be KO’d by Spiritomb or Milotic. Platinum made it more balanced by giving her Togekiss instead of Gastrodon. Also in the new games all the E4 has held items and competitive movesets and it’s horrifying for new players lol.
To people who say she would be easy now, check her out in BDSP! She has a full level 86-88 team in rematch. All of them perfect competitive mon with held items. She is officially the strongest Pokémon NPC
When i was 11, cause i didn't get this game till my birthday the following year, I remember playing diamond. I use to use my starter, and 5 HM slaves. Reason I say "use to"? Cynthia. I had to resort to full restore revive stall to win. In gen 5 (didn't get to play platnum or the gen 2 remakes cause my parents didn't buy them for me)? I used a diverse team build that I can't remember fully, but had Hydragon, Serperior, Zekrom and Volcarona. She literally made me rethink how to play Pokemon. AT 11 YEARS OLD! And what did I do when rematching her for gen 8? I breed a competetive team consisting of Infernape, Swampert, Garchomp, Togekiss, Lucario and Roserade. i then grinded the gym leaders until they were appropriate level, and fought her. I literally looked up stats, evs and ivs, fought pokemon for stat buffs, and grinded the battle tower for the braces. This is stuff i never once considered when i was 11. Ohh, and don't get me started on my fear of Undella Town.
Hahaha ah I was like “Cynthia will be easy.” I restarted several times as the battles always went wrong immediately. Clearly my arrogance of playing Pokémon for over a decade was my downfall.

Honestly the toughest battle was battling Red at Mt. Silver without knowing his pokemon are like level 80 after beating the elite 4. That caught me off guard the first time.
To be honest, i think generation 4 was too hard and for mostly the wrong reasons. Platinum is my favourite pokemon game, and diamond was my first. Why are my mons level 42 but her garchomp level 67. The fuck nintendo?
At least the remakes will include the fairy type, which means that Spiritomb should have 1 weakness. And even then, Spiritomb is probably the weakest of her Pokémon. If not, then it's close to being the weakest
One of my favorite and yet most painful memories is when My Frosslass got a crit on Ice Fang _and_ froze Togekiss, only for it to thaw the exact same turn and crit poor Hestia in return.

If so, you'll love Pokémon Insurgence if you want to give Pokémon hacked games a try :) It's amazing in every way (plot, concept, execution, post game quests, altho I do admit that they skimped the animations a bit) and if you're into games with steep difficulty, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Play pokemon without the option that show you the next pokemon the enemy will throw. The game become way more harder that way. Not dark souls level but still, it helps
Pokemon were never "unforgiving" in difficulty. Sure stuff like Cynthia, Red or the Bosses of Colloseum/XD testet ur skill and knowledge but "unforgiving" is a big word for Pokemons difficulty.
Fun Fact. I ordered a used Pokemon Platinum cartrige with its original box and evertyhing from Amazon and the save file was in the room before Cynthia. Someone got there and couldn't beat her and sold his/her copy. I tried to beat it using that same team as it was and couldnt. It was just matter of leveling up and retrying but the original owner probably didnt have the patience

That pain of taking it’s bleach down that far, only for it to recover health. These days, I plan my team in advance and generally hit every trainer on the way, so I’m decently leveled. It’s been a long time since I tackled the elite for with an underlevgled team. Still feel pride for taking Cynthia down with a team of Lv 48-52s back when I was a kid.

Fia Brand I know, I caught her and just went “shit” and I’m the kind of person that gets attached to any Pokémon he catches and can’t bring myself to throw it in a box trying to get a better nature. Also since I’m not a competitive player I forgot the name of it but my garchomp has the -atk +sp.atk nature. Yeah I had some pretty bad luck but since my gardevoir was overleveled as hell I swept the game. The only challenge I actually had was in cyrus’s final battle
Cynthia is definitely one of the best (if not the best) champions in the whole franchise from aesthetics, to lore, to gameplay. For me, no other champion has reached the same amount of impact she has.

I decided to revisit diamond with a different team (leaving my lvl 100 Empoleon and Dialga in the PC) for the first time in years and tried to beat the elite 4 by training a new team. I thought I was doing OK till Cynthia’s theme started playing and I saw her garchomp again.

And coincidentally I didn't even search about this town before going through it in the game. I got a mini heart attack when she asked me to battle. In Black 2, however, I saved before fighting her in the fear that she'll absolutely crush me but my roserade's poison spikes worked wonders. Had to thank Paul for that strategy😂
It hasn't scarred me. It's only made it easier for me to realize how masochistic and deluded people who claim to still be fans of gen 4 really are. Cynthia was an unfair champion, and a shitty character. I have only beaten her once, and that was by stacking every X-up item onto one team member.

I battled Cynthia recently on my copy of Diamond I hadn’t ever completed, and I was trembling the whole time. My Garchomp didn’t out speed, but it got a crit and did enough damage for my Empoleon to tank and murder the land shark. I was so excited when I actually beat her!
*My first battle with Cynthia in a nutshell* Me: *walks into a random villa and sees Cynthia but has never played Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum* Cynthia in Unova? Well surely she can't be that bad....... Me after getting wrecked a thousand times: *IT'S BAD*
Even if you _hadn't_ played the games, or have been living under a rock and don't even know of the legends, Cynthia easily has one of if not the most _ominous_ encounter themes. N is probably the only trainer who even comes close, and it's ominous in a completely different way.
Greevil will always be an opponent that I love to fight. You'll NEED shadow Lugia to tank everything, but snagging 6/6 of his shadow team is the most satisfying thing in the world. After all, in XD, you have to re snag every shadow you caught from him if you lose the fight. Such an intense gamble to go all in!
@@FTW1230 Platinum was the first game where I started overleveling , at this point its pretty bad with how much I overlevel, also pretty easy to now, by the time I faced Leon all the pokemon on my team were level 95 because well I got bored one day so after I had all the gym badges decided to fight all the dynamic dens, I have no idea how many gigantamaxed pokemon I took down that day but it was certainly over 100, so yeah I wiped the floor with him
Facing her back then was an ordeal. Seeing my pokemon fall one by one was an experience I'll never forget. Now that I'm much older she's not too hard handle; at this point I simply knew better. Still a pain though and the flashbacks don't help.

Play pokemon without the option that show you the next pokemon the enemy will throw. The game become way more harder that way. Not dark souls level but still, it helps

Pokemon were never "unforgiving" in difficulty. Sure stuff like Cynthia, Red or the Bosses of Colloseum/XD testet ur skill and knowledge but "unforgiving" is a big word for Pokemons difficulty.

Fun Fact. I ordered a used Pokemon Platinum cartrige with its original box and evertyhing from Amazon and the save file was in the room before Cynthia. Someone got there and couldn't beat her and sold his/her copy. I tried to beat it using that same team as it was and couldnt. It was just matter of leveling up and retrying but the original owner probably didnt have the patience

I think i was 8 or 9 and i somehow managed to forget where i was supposed to go for a long time, when i finaly rememberd i was EXTREMLY overleveld (at least 2 on my team were Lv100) and somehow, cynthia still managed to be a decent challange at the end.

And coincidentally I didn't even search about this town before going through it in the game. I got a mini heart attack when she asked me to battle. In Black 2, however, I saved before fighting her in the fear that she'll absolutely crush me but my roserade's poison spikes worked wonders. Had to thank Paul for that strategy😂
It hasn't scarred me. It's only made it easier for me to realize how masochistic and deluded people who claim to still be fans of gen 4 really are. Cynthia was an unfair champion, and a shitty character. I have only beaten her once, and that was by stacking every X-up item onto one team member.

I battled Cynthia recently on my copy of Diamond I hadn’t ever completed, and I was trembling the whole time. My Garchomp didn’t out speed, but it got a crit and did enough damage for my Empoleon to tank and murder the land shark. I was so excited when I actually beat her!

Also being five levels overleveled for cynthia she was still a challenge
Facing her back then was an ordeal. Seeing my pokemon fall one by one was an experience I'll never forget.
Now that I'm much older she's not too hard handle; at this point I simply knew better. Still a pain though and the flashbacks don't help.
