There are. They just aren't part of modern societies and f they do they possibly live in distant communities almost living on the edge of civilization. Thinking like this just won't bring a lot of benefit in todays society. Monks that go to forests or other places with very few people often meditate there just for the same reason the skaal live like this.
Plus the society tends to be very weak someone somewhere might just decide hey look forest hippies let me rob them of everything money, women and children.
I *LOVE* the Skaal! Even though my Khajiit is a werewolf who respects Hircine greatly, I adore the fact that the Skaal aren't like most others who are polytheistic. But I didn't know they believed in reincarnation (probably should've known) and weren't monotheistic...
Basically all TES religions are right, since basically all of them are confirmed to exist, but the history of these gods is probably all fake because each God has a different version of the world's creation
As mentioned, it's probably another name for Lorkhan. HOWEVER, it's more likely another name for the Godhead. There's so many links to the All-Maker being the Godhead. This means that the Skaal, like the Alessian Order, are/were the closest to having the most "correct" religion.

Mephala is a genius because she is one of if not THE MOST successful daedric prince as her manipulating the concept of Sithis/Night Mother to the Dark Brotherhood. Like think about it since Mephala is actually the one behind all of what the DB is, that means she manipulates them even in death. Lucien Lachance is a ghost in TES V and he still references his afterlife in "The Void", but I feel like Mephala wouldnt actually be sending DB assassins (aka her blind worshippers) to The Void in the Monomyth as we know it, I feel like Mephala just created like maybe (for lack of a better words) created an outside/other level of her realm Spiral Skein and called it The Void to further the manipulation of the DB. That means her trickery, and the traits of her sphere are one of the most successful of all daedric princes as long as the DB keeps running because she will always get to sit back and watch the unending chaos she created, which is what a Daedra loves most.
I honestly think that the dark brotherhood is all a complex prank by Sheogorath. I mean after all, they are led by someone hearing the voice of a long dead corpse in their head, and is convinced to murder others as per that voice’s decree. There’s nothing in that, that isn’t totally insane.
@@fireblast133a couple reasons why its Mephala though, 1. TES itself plants the ideas of Mephala being behind it. even the most recent shrine to Sithis in ESO is purposely made to resemble Mephala. 2. Read "The Night Mothers Truth". It still supports the fantasy story of the Night Mother being a dunmer woman who hears the voice of Sithis, but even then Mephala is STILL mentioned to being involved with the origins and in general anything u read up on Mephala it makes sense that she is taking the role of all this
our fortress is burning it being Sheo though would fit with how he’s acted towards the other Daedric Princes prior. Nearly every story where they Sheo faces another prince in a contest he beats them at their own game. Vaermina for example, he got a loyal follower of her to reject her, just as the DB have supposedly rejected Mephala for Sithis, by using a similar tactic to undermine that faith.
@@fireblast133 the events wouldnt correspond though why would Sheo be doing all of what was happening in the Shivering Isles DLC all while the events of DB was happening and for his daedric sphere it wouldnt match as much as it does Mephala. I know I’m late but I wanted to say, I don’t think the skaal will die out. They have survived the red mountain and raven rock settlement when it was at nigh it’s highest. While arguably peace would be hard, there would be peace, with the reputation they gained by helping in stopping miraak, no doubt the dunmer would not view them with the same distrust as they do other nords.

Ultimately while the skaal may be content in their way of life, they can still be considered a failure as a civilization. This is due them not being able to prevent others from wiping them out, weather it be direct military confrontation or assimilation by other societies. It's a lot like what happened to hunter gathers whenever they met an agricultural people in the real world. The hunter gathers being wiped out or pushed from their traditional territory, not being able to compete with the numbers and technology of farming peoples.
Xavi Neira they have by far the stupidest belives in all of skyrim. Lorkhan is the popular theory as the "All-Maker" is a play on "All-Father" what the Vikings called Odin, in Skyrim Odin is Shor and Shor is Lorkhan, its all theories of course but its a good one.
Karliah is a frickin idiot. She had every opportunity to just shoot Mercer Frey, rather than the Dragonborn, just by repositioning, but she'll still shoot the dragonborn no matter where they position themself while entering the room. Similarly, she seems to think that the *only* way to beat Mercer in the final confrontation is to make a new trinity of Nightingales, when the dragonborn, even in vanilla skyrim with no exploit shenanigans, can typically easily *make* better gear than Nocturnal gives you, and Brynyolf is turned on her by Mercer in the final battle anyway, so being a nightingale obviously does squat other than the armor. Lastly, rather than accompanying the dragonborn to the sanctum and helping them return the key, she wimps out and only joins in once all the hard work is done. So, no, she is garbage. She makes the Dragonborn do all the heavy lifting, even though she is supposed to be the more experienced and competent character.
I’ll admit that, to single handily fight back Mercer when he had all those resources was genius. Not to mention that with the limited amount of resources and a curse on her she was the only one to mess up Mercer Frey’s plan. The only reason why she shot the Dragonborn was because she was inpatient she jump the gun (or lose the arrow in this case). Honestly In my opinion she is a genius to quote an age old saying: a genius does what it must, and talent does what it can.
Just one sentence from Neloth, an actual genius, proves why the Skaal are idiots: "Mora learns a fascinating new way to skin a horker, and you become the second most powerful Dragonborn to ever live."
I think nords should be close to imune to frost which is why they are able to go to war inaked in warpain and not to freeze, so the skall shouldnt have to dress so warmly.
2:24 The Skaal are not smart, their life style is literally sustainable only via random chance that a animal is within reach, whatever they store is what limits their population. Instead of being a sustainable life via farming or trade, the Rock settlement expanding is due to its trade and sustainable systems so much so it imports food and exports out. If the Skaal had a bad hunting trip it would mean less food, less food equals starvation which damages the immune system and weakens the body, meaning more likely they’ll suffer more. If they were to play politics and own the land they could maintain it as they wish, but they seem to refuse to and their lack of development is what makes them weak to trade for food whenever they’re on the verge of starving and you have the hostile tribe of midget demons causing damage to the Skaal and their own animals, the goblin’s life style however is reliant on raising others and outside their own system for food which you can assume would limit them or wipe them out should the people just leave. The Skaal May trade which is their own small benefit of it via allowing means to other settlements and resources easier raised elsewhere however their dependency on hunting and seeming lack of agriculture and sustainable basic resources leaves them in a undeveloped state and their livelihood at a low quality, always uncertain of their own food at the time They could’ve traded their secrets for nearly anything the god of knowledge had on store and was willing to trade however they kept it to themselves and seemingly refused to part with it until it was at the highest price and in hind sight short term trade of benefiting another’s cause which while it helped it left them on a net negative gain in long term... like they’ve been having for how long now? If left alone they would eventually be overcome by the goblins who are more hostile and expansive than the Skaal They also seem to neglect the same thing he goblins neglect: Magic in favor of risky, costly rituals with questionable beings such as the prince of knowledge (I think that’s his title) and the seemingly dependence on other gods or spirits to bring food to them, at the mercy of this god... you can see the example do this in the Witcher 3 greedy god quest albeit at least these seem mildly interested in keeping the diminishing population alive. Edit: counting a declining population, neglect, dependency and reliance on ether spirits to bring you food of wild animals and clean water seems like a strange way to count for success or even smarts, much less if the reliance on spirits are severed via the Skaal sharing their secrets, and risk trading that for a single shout and access to a MAYBE of someone defeating the first Dragonborn, a mortal... Alduin needed to be defeated hubs Dragonborn because only a Dragonborn could keep dragons dead They had the leverage on he deal, and they wasted it on a single chance a mortal could kill a mortal, they had a god salivating at the mouth for the trade, and they went for the cheapest sum Let’s also look at their clothes since that was flight up They’re reliant on furred animals for warm clothes while other nations use Chitten and leather a more common source given some of the wild life at the island and most being leathery and chitinesk, if thy do not get the fur for a few hunts they’re no longer getting fresh resources for clothing or to trade and seem to neglect raising animals for such a trade, their dependency and having to work extra long just to survive leaves them with little time to develop and neglect to adopt trade or agriculture to further their development or to even protect their own territory seeing as the goblins are quite a hostile group they’re taking land from the Skaal and my bet is they will bring the Skaal’s end, then be little more then a foot note as the goblins disappear due to their lack of tase, dependency on other groups for supplies and lack of development into agriculture, if left alone I’m betting it’ll be Easter Island all over again, especially with the inbreeding risk They seem so neglectful to protecting their own land and way of life they’ve stagnated and wither, instead of entering trade or protection deals with the settlement to secure their land or at least their hunting grounds they instead sit around heir village wondering when the next meal will be available and ok watch for the goblins, neglecting their resources to trade to cultural aspects and traits that could be appealing such as entertainment, speech and literature of books as a possible trade or seemingly the lack of going into other lands and instead dependent on their own land’s happen stance to survive leaving themselves susceptible to decline and lack of alternative trades, should a time of few hit them for a prolonged time or should their All maker abandon them or be unable to help them what would they fall back on? The nearest trade settlement? They don’t seem to expand or even connected with much else outside of what they can piss on, where trade could be more rewarding in profits of food or currency to trade they would be blind to out of their own neglect, should they turn against the settlement it’s more connected via having a port and trade, what would the Skaal’s chance of surviving a war- a single battle where those who hunt for their food are the ones to die, or would they sooner send their weak and elderly to battle, other people who are unfit so the hunters and fighters don’t have to risk the village’s food suppliers... the only poorly efficient supplier I might add.

I think the Skaal “All-Maker” is the Godhead (but the Skaal don’t realize what that means, they would either zero-sum or achieve CHIM, unless there’s some other possible outcome that we don’t know about).
I started a play through as a character called Ave Skaal years ago, didn't even know skaal was a place in Skyrim. Started a Roleplay series as the same character and this video is extremely helpful and almost disturbingly convenient for my characters backstory. Thanks also for your Thalmor video,, again, extremely helpful. Screwx
I wish people in real life had the kind of common sense and way of thinking about things that the Skaal did.
Real life: "Why Avarti is a genius"
He would like you to think this
It's great that you've found a way to make videos that doesn't stress you out as much!
it always bugged me that skyrim is a cold region yet none of the armor or clothes cover much. good thing theres mods for that
Enough mead will warm ya right up!
Nords are known to have high cold resistance. And i dont mean magic but literal weather and temperature.
Next time on Avarti's channel "Why you should NOT play skyrim."
You could even marry a Skaal and make that village your home.
Yeah, Morwen 😉
I *LOVE* the Skaal! Even though my Khajiit is a werewolf who respects Hircine greatly, I adore the fact that the Skaal aren't like most others who are polytheistic. But I didn't know they believed in reincarnation (probably should've known) and weren't monotheistic...
The All-maker thing is true? Because the other gods are real. All-maker is another name of a god?
Basically all TES religions are right, since basically all of them are confirmed to exist, but the history of these gods is probably all fake because each God has a different version of the world's creation
All Maker is actually their version of Anu while the Adversary (The All Maker's nemesis) is their version.of Padomay.
@@jeaddhist that makes sense, since any is described in the "main" religion (the nine divines's religion)
@@jeaddhist The Adversary is Hircine, nothing to do with Padomay.
As mentioned, it's probably another name for Lorkhan.
HOWEVER, it's more likely another name for the Godhead. There's so many links to the All-Maker being the Godhead.
This means that the Skaal, like the Alessian Order, are/were the closest to having the most "correct" religion.
Please analyze Isran.
24 65 I would like that
I think there’s already one
He did a few weeks ago, one of his last videos that wasn't pre-uploaded.
XxFilthMagnetxX if you’re talking about the video on why you shouldn’t join Volkihar, then I guess he technically did. But if not I don’t see it.
But if you are talking about the Volkihar video, even though he did address Isran for a good minute or two, he wasn’t the entire focus of it. If it’s a different video entirely, then I couldn’t find it
@@GreetMyMeat Yeah that was the one that I was referencing, and tbh, I don't really see much more to the character than what he went over in that one. We don't know much more about his backstory than that most everyone is like "Isran's a jerk, but is good at heart." course then again I could be forgetting things, has been a WHILE since I've played all the way through DG.
If there IS more to him, then he could definitely be a good focus for a video. Here's hoping when Avarti has some time away from school he can actually get videos made on some of the more requested characters!
Like it straight up is her. The whole series itself wants you to figure that out
So, like is there no sithis? I'm still a lore fledgling but if there is no sithis then is there no void? Im lost rn.
They kinda mirror the Sami and Innuit.

It would be interesting if in TES VI, the Skaal where by the expanding Dunmer forced to live in civilisation, in the city, but exported their democracy to the rest of Skyrim
If some survival mods which I use were applied to NPC's in Skyrim, then only the Skaal would survive
Their All Maker is actually the most believable religion out of all the religions in Tamriel. It actually make sense rather than the polytheism of the nine divines.
Considering nords come from a continent far more north originally Skyrim must be a tropical climate for them
Skyrim is for the NORDS!
yeah that last point about the people of skyrim bothers me too, I mean if you play with Frostfall or some other tempatuer mod, when in the north I am constantly fighting the cold, while wearing full fur or something, while the argonians around the storm cloak capital(its name escapes me at the time of writing) are just sitting there with barely any clothes.
*Skyrim lore* "the bend will shout was an extremely powerful force, and was the tool that helped the last dragonborn defeat the first"
*Skyrim game* "This shout fucking sucks😂 I can't even pilot the dragons😒"
Ultimately while the skaal may be content in their way of life, they can still be considered a failure as a civilization. This is due them not being able to prevent others from wiping them out, weather it be direct military confrontation or assimilation by other societies.
It's a lot like what happened to hunter gathers whenever they met an agricultural people in the real world. The hunter gathers being wiped out or pushed from their traditional territory, not being able to compete with the numbers and technology of farming peoples.
They manage to keep a secret from the literal god of hidden knowledge for centuries if not longer
Better title would Why the Skaal are PRACTICAL or SPIRITUALLY ENLIGHTENED
Well he has to keep with the theme.
I’m rooting for the Skaal to challenge the religions in Skyrim. I would def worship their beliefs
Xavi Neira they have by far the stupidest belives in all of skyrim. I even coul understand the belive of the atom in fallout more then there bunch of belives which contradicts with what they say and (tes) reality. The reason why the skaal boss don’t explain there belives is cuz they would, the dragonborn would say „i know why thirsk meet hall was founded omg i got to go wow no wonder you are hermits gee“ and leave
Never give up youtube, we love you man!!! Keep up the amazing work!
Does anybody know if "The All-Maker" is actually another name for Anui-El or Lorkhan? I think I read something about that a while ago.
Lorkhan is the popular theory as the "All-Maker" is a play on "All-Father" what the Vikings called Odin, in Skyrim Odin is Shor and Shor is Lorkhan, its all theories of course but its a good one.
@@Searly255 I keep that "Lorkhan = All-Maker" theory as a headcanon
I prefer seeing the All-Maker as the Godhead.
Mathew Searle someone with brain I see 👌🏼
@@Practitioner_of_Diogenes That would be something very intresting if they took that direction. I just see Lorkhan more plausible
Do they believe in Sovngarde? Seems it would conflict with their concept of reincarnation.
Not necessarily, they could just hang out in Sovengarde until they get reincarnated.
Yeah another video!!! Do why karlihya is a genius.
Again I say a genius does what it must, and talent does what it can.
Just one sentence from Neloth, an actual genius, proves why the Skaal are idiots:
"Mora learns a fascinating new way to skin a horker, and you become the second most powerful Dragonborn to ever live."
The All Maker could possibly be a Rep of the GodHead
Honestly their ability to outwit the daedric god of knowledge for millennia is proof enough
I think nords should be close to imune to frost which is why they are able to go to war inaked in warpain and not to freeze, so the skall shouldnt have to dress so warmly.
Final point: They wear clothes.
Love the video and good luck in school
The skaal remind me a lot of what I learned about First Nations in school
You make fascinating uploads man. Keep them coming please

The Skaal are not smart, their life style is literally sustainable only via random chance that a animal is within reach, whatever they store is what limits their population.
The Skaal May trade which is their own small benefit of it via allowing means to other settlements and resources easier raised elsewhere however their dependency on hunting and seeming lack of agriculture and sustainable basic resources leaves them in a undeveloped state and their livelihood at a low quality, always uncertain of their own food at the time
They could’ve traded their secrets for nearly anything the god of knowledge had on store and was willing to trade however they kept it to themselves and seemingly refused to part with it until it was at the highest price and in hind sight short term trade of benefiting another’s cause which while it helped it left them on a net negative gain in long term... like they’ve been having for how long now?
If left alone they would eventually be overcome by the goblins who are more hostile and expansive than the Skaal
They also seem to neglect the same thing he goblins neglect: Magic in favor of risky, costly rituals with questionable beings such as the prince of knowledge (I think that’s his title) and the seemingly dependence on other gods or spirits to bring food to them, at the mercy of this god... you can see the example do this in the Witcher 3 greedy god quest albeit at least these seem mildly interested in keeping the diminishing population alive.
Alduin needed to be defeated hubs Dragonborn because only a Dragonborn could keep dragons dead
They had the leverage on he deal, and they wasted it on a single chance a mortal could kill a mortal, they had a god salivating at the mouth for the trade, and they went for the cheapest sum
Let’s also look at their clothes since that was flight up
They’re reliant on furred animals for warm clothes while other nations use Chitten and leather a more common source given some of the wild life at the island and most being leathery and chitinesk, if thy do not get the fur for a few hunts they’re no longer getting fresh resources for clothing or to trade and seem to neglect raising animals for such a trade, their dependency and having to work extra long just to survive leaves them with little time to develop and neglect to adopt trade or agriculture to further their development or to even protect their own territory seeing as the goblins are quite a hostile group they’re taking land from the Skaal and my bet is they will bring the Skaal’s end, then be little more then a foot note as the goblins disappear due to their lack of tase, dependency on other groups for supplies and lack of development into agriculture, if left alone I’m betting it’ll be Easter Island all over again, especially with the inbreeding risk
They seem so neglectful to protecting their own land and way of life they’ve stagnated and wither, instead of entering trade or protection deals with the settlement to secure their land or at least their hunting grounds they instead sit around heir village wondering when the next meal will be available and ok watch for the goblins, neglecting their resources to trade to cultural aspects and traits that could be appealing such as entertainment, speech and literature of books as a possible trade or seemingly the lack of going into other lands and instead dependent on their own land’s happen stance to survive leaving themselves susceptible to decline and lack of alternative trades, should a time of few hit them for a prolonged time or should their All maker abandon them or be unable to help them what would they fall back on?
The nearest trade settlement?
They don’t seem to expand or even connected with much else outside of what they can piss on, where trade could be more rewarding in profits of food or currency to trade they would be blind to out of their own neglect, should they turn against the settlement it’s more connected via having a port and trade, what would the Skaal’s chance of surviving a war- a single battle where those who hunt for their food are the ones to die, or would they sooner send their weak and elderly to battle, other people who are unfit so the hunters and fighters don’t have to risk the village’s food suppliers... the only poorly efficient supplier I might add.
The Skall reminded me of certain Gnostic sects and, to some extent, even the Quakers.
The Skaal are like the early Native Americans regarding the way they survive

According to this guy Good guys are genius and bad guys are idiots, lol
Except he literally called Savos Aren and Balgruuf idiots...
Nope, the sole reason why "evil" guys are idiots is simply becouse its hard to make a genius villain when u are the main protagonist (which mean bethesda need to make the villains dull for plot reason OR add a npc teammate who just as much genius - ruining the player experience about how smart he is) - and lets be honest, i can count in my 2 hand how many genius npc exist in Skyrim (without mods).
The villain characters went thought the same casualization just like everything else, and thats why everyone (good guys and bad guys alike) became idiotic (the sole reason why we can find some "genius" good guys becouse their likely follow a principle which can make them morally admirable, while a villain a dont give a damn about morality and he need to prove himself a "genius" despite that)

Nords are supposed to be immune to the cold they have been for at least Morrowind and Oblivion. They wouldn't need winter coats. they would only use them because thats what available from the wildlife. don't forget that the berserkers in Morrowind ran around in loin clothes without issue. It's was a game design choices to make Nords resistant to frost because they are the majority of enemies that your going to be facing in the game among other frost monsters, and it would be inconvenient to have an entire spell branch and shout be completely useless in game. So don't confused by game design decisions and lore. The Nords are immune to frost.
This video proves the skaal are complete idiots. Total deference to an ancient way of life is essentially living without needing to think for yourself. Likewise, contentment with circumstance requires no intelligence. Domesticated cows can do it.
If the skaal happen to be perfectly suited to their situation, is it genius? Nope. A broken clock is right twice a day.
