    Glad to see you struggled with the blade clamping screw too. Watched your video primarily to see what we were missing because we couldn’t move it. Apparently, it just took a little more muscle than we anticipated. Lol. Thanks for the help.

      I was also initially wondering if it was a left handed thread (I've never owned one of these saws before so wasn't sure) but considering the direction of rotation, it only made sense for it to be a normal right handed thread... so as to tighten the arbor bolt as the blade cuts, but at the time, I didn't want to force it either way. haha.

    I bought this saw a year ago, have been using it for rough cross cuts and rip cuts. Until recently I tested it using a digital gauge and found out the blade is not parallel to the shoe, off by 1mm. The 0 kerf indicator is off by 1/16", could be caused by the blade not being parallel or the blade was assembled with a wrong washer thickness. I really love this saw for its quietness and light weight, maybe I got a lemon by chance. My local service center said they could take a look.

      @GrantBurton  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Alexander, I've done a teardown of the saw if you are interested in what's inside. My shoe is also roughly 1mm out of square with the blade although I think the design, the method in which the shoe is attached to the body at really only one solid point at the front, lends itself to being less rigid and easily forced to not run perfectly parallel with the blade. Please let me know what feedback you receive from the service centre. ruclips.net/video/QolhaeqFcXQ/видео.html

    • @alexanderw7846
      @alexanderw7846 5 лет назад

      Hi Grant, thanks for testing out your saw, it confirms that my saw should have been flawed from the beginning instead of being deformed during use (as I recollect I have never dropped the saw or impacted the shoe in a way that could have set things off).
      Right now I'm in the middle of a job so I can't take the saw over to the service center, they say they'd take 2 weeks to fix as they're overloaded now. I doubt they'd be able to do anything, maybe change a new shoe? If I were to tackle it myself I read suggestions of enlarging the holes that attach the shoe to the saw, creating play room to calibrate the shoe, but it wouldn't be neat. If only Dewalt made all their saws like the DW364, this way you could calibrate the squareness like the bevel.

    • @alexanderw7846
      @alexanderw7846 5 лет назад

      I also bought the dewalt rip fence (really expensive for what it's worth), don't need a table saw because of it (maybe in the future when I need to do wider rip cuts). One problem with it is the screw, I glued some soft sponge material to the end of it so that you don't make a mark on the rip fence every time you tighten it. Design flaw there...
      I like your video btw, real simple, keep it up if you can lol, I admire people who make videos and have time to get jobs done, at least I don't have that kind of capacity.

    Why did you blur the serial number?

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  2 года назад

      Hi Tom, I thought it’s generally a safer practice to cover unique identifiers which are published in public spaces, although with these tools, it’s not to important. You’ll notice in some of the latest videos, they are not covered. Sometimes I do it, sometimes I don’t… guess it’s just when I remember.
      It’s still a good idea to cover unique identifiers / serial numbers which are linked to personal information though.

    First gen 391 is only 460 watts. They upped it to around 750 but the 570 should bog down much less

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  3 года назад

      Hi Ironman, I haven't had much issue with 570 bogging down at all although I only really cut through soft woods like pine and plywood boards. If i remember correctly the DCS570 is around 900W. The Power Detect range with bigger batteries looks really good though (from the few videos I've watched).
      Do you have the 391 or the 570?

    • @ironmantooltime

      @@GrantBurton have a 391 first gen i think but waiting for a 570 should arrive in a couple of weeks.. Not a power detect I don't think but then i dont use flex volt... Had the 391 for a few years and it does bog on longer cuts, so treated myself to an upgrade 😁

    Great video. Excellent review. Very helpful.
    I wonder how this saw would go using 2AH batteries?

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  3 года назад +1

      HI Eoin, thanks. I haven't got any 2AH to test for you but i would guess that it will work for cutting thinner wood sheet or making short quick cuts. I don't think it would work well for cutting up full size 3/4 inch+ boards as the battery will run flat fast.

      I have the dcs575 flexvolt, I work construction and I have the only cordless saw on site that can handle anything a corded saw can handle. I love the thing to death. I have 7 dewalt tools and the 575 flexvolt is my favorite. I paid 250 for a new kit, 6a battery, rapid charger and bag!

    • @GrantBurton

      I see DeWALT has a new model on the market now... DCS 574W 7 1/4inch Circular Saw. Its a 20V Max unit but with a Power Detect feature which I believe, when used with the 8a/h battery or the flexvolt battery, delivers much more powerful than the standard DCS 570. I don't have ay first hand experience with this model but it would be nice to get my hands on one to test or hear from others that are already using it.

      @@muscleman369 I decided to get the DCS578 when I saw the deal at the Depot today. $299 comes with DCD796 Drill and a DCB609 FLEXVOLT 9Ah battery. I'm also watching the deal at the Lowe's $299 5-tool combo kit (DCKSS521D2). Thank you all for the suggestions.

    I have the Flexvolt, it is an animal,one thing I'm not impressed with is the plastic plate holding the bottom bearing, very cheap!

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  5 лет назад

      I've also felt the same way in the past, about various plastic housings, etc. but have come to realize that some are made of Polycarbonate (PC) or Nylon (PA66) with glass fibre reinforcing (GF-25 or GF-30) which prove to actually be very strong. I do still prefer good old aluminium parts though... they just instill a bit more confidence seeing a metal part. How many other DeWalt tools do you have?

    • @interman7715
      @interman7715 5 лет назад

      Grant Burton Mate, it is holding the main bearing and gear that drives the blade ,they've just cheaped it out ,why didn't they put it in the worm drive style then if its so tough?

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  4 года назад

      I'm guessing between R4500 and R5000 but if you shop around you may get it for less as that model is getting old now. I would personally stick the newer models, especially the new Dewalt Power Detect models, they supposedly have substantially more power when paired with the higher capacity batteries.
