- In this video I show you how to install the front and rear speakers in a 2006 Honda Civic sedan. The exact vehicle in this video is a 2006 Honda Civic EX four door sedan. 2006-2001 Honda Civic sedan speakers should be similar but may not be exact. The rear speakers on coupe and SI models are usually a bit different.

Big Dog50001 Automotive front and rear speakers are the same size ?
Crummy speakers to use factory wires smh
On amazon says the metra adapter wont fit for my 2009 honda civic do you think it will ?
@@jacobfelt4954 i think it will because its the same generation
Thank you so much. I did exactly what you showed on the video and everything went smooth in no time at all.
Makiwara25 Nice job!
This video was very helpful. After the prep work, installing speakers onto the adapters before installation, it took all of 10 minutes to do both sides. Thank you for the walkthrough :)
Glad it helped!
Great video Big Dog , it can't get any easier than the way you did it.Now I feel more encouraged to try doing it myself with my civic.
But why did you have to remove the break light bulb though? Electrical reasons?
The only reason you would need to remove the third brake light would be if you have a 2 door coupe, most of those require you to remove the entire rear deck trim. On the 4 door sedans (like in this video), you can just remove the speaker grill.
Man, when I see that "massive magnet" I understand why my Civic's stereo sounds so bad.
lol
Great video...
Thanks!
Do you have to disconnect the car battery first or does that not matter?
No, not on this vehicle.
Hi, is it the same speaker size and adapters for the hatchback model (2011) ?
Can't say for sure, i do not see hatchbacks around here.
@@BigDog50001 ok thank you alot , and nice work tho 😉
Why use the round peace that's no good then it will sit to.high
The adapters keep the speaker in the proper place (not to high or low) and make install easier. I'm sure I could install speakers without them but that would just cause me more work (and possible headaches). Some speakers will not work with the adapters but most standard speakers fit them just fine.
I just finished replacing my all 4 stock speakers in under an hour. Thank you very much for this video, it saved me a lot of time and frustration. I love the way you explained everything that made the speakers install so easy and trouble free. The stock speakers are a joke. Once again thanks for this wonderful video.
Thanks for the comment!

Excellent video! I plan to use this when I replace my civics speakers.....You made it look easy.
Thank you.
FYI If you have the 2 door coupe model, you have to remove the entire back cover to access the speakers AND you need to cut about 1 inch off of a metal bar that touches the magnet of your aftermarket speaker. If you don't you will short the speaker out and cause your Amp to go into protection mode.
Yep the coupes are a bit different.
Wym metal bar? My door is currently hanging off the car speaker in hand no bracket to mount and no wire connector.
Amazing video! I have to replace all of my speakers since some of them blew, and I was going to take it to a shop, but your tutorial makes it look like a very manageable installation. Thank you so much
Thanks for the comment!
Chicago Electric. This is a man who knows how to saves money.
lol
Great job with this vid. You probably just saved me a tonne of cash, time and stress. I personally found the references to the cable adapter and mounting frame really useful. BTW, I warmed my foam with a hair dryer to soften the glue and got no rips. Huge Thank you.
VSUKWizard Thanks!
I need 6:34 minute screw measurement!!
Sorry to
I lost my front ones :x
Did u find the right size!?!?
@@RobVaughan1984 did u ever find the size?

I have an 8th gen Civic, Thank You so much for the tutorial.
I appreciate the comment, thanks!
Idk if you'll reply but what speakers did you end up getting? I'm planning on buying a 2008 soon and am gonna replace radio and speakers straight away so I was wondering if you have something with really good bass and sound quality
I did the exact same thing years ago but now I'm having static sound coming from the speakers. Any advice thank you RUclips
thanks for showing me how to install those speakers. I love the Pioneer brand, to me, they are the Best!
Thanks for the comment!
You helped me bring life to my civic! Thumbs up all the way
Glad it helped, thanks for the comment!
radio has power but no sounds on any speakers. changed the fuses, still nothing. Do i most likely need to change all speakers?
Thank you very much for this video guide. I am about to have my speakers upgraded and it seems I can DIY the whole thing. It will save myself a lot of money. Cheers!
Thanks for the comment 👍!
Uses the bolt as one screw using the tab on the speaker, then drilled 3 screws in the adapter on the remains tabs.
This was a tighter fit to the frame.
Would you mind to list in the description the parts used in this video?
speakers model, speakers adapter, wire adapters.
Regards
im confused, i bought an amp to power my new speakers. if i run the pos and neg wires from the amp at the back of the trunk into the doors to power the speakers where do i add the cable from the amp to send the music to the speaker?
please help!
Excellent good contribution
Thanks for this video. Very helpful. One quick question: If I'm replacing the speaker with a Honda factory speaker of the exact same type, I'm assuming the mounting bracket is not necessary?
Factory original speakers have the bracket built in. Thanks for the comment!
Which company speakers did honda use for 2011 civic??
Great video! Thanks for posting. Where did you get the adaptor cables?
What size the screw to screw down the rear speaker adapter to the car?
I used this video just today to replace my 10 yr old, completely shot, front door 2 way speakers with 3 way speakers. It went really well and I think i'm going to replace the back ones soon too. Saved me $150 thank you!
Sweet, glad it helped!
How many speakers in total on this car which is year of 2008?
Hey, does the speaker comes with screw or do you have to buy the screw?
i was able to use the original speaker mount. i made some adjustments but it worked much better.
Thanks for the input!
I need help so I did all process but at finish I don't feel significant change, so the speaker I bought was kicker cs5 6.5 inch 300 watts
the biggest thing you will need is to 1) sound dampen the door, 2) put in an inline/cover/protection around your door speaker, then amplify it. Those kickers need an amp. Plus the doors of the civic cause you to lose a lot of sound without that additional protection. :)
If the speakers sitting to.high nor it will hit the rear deck cover
Big Dog50001 what are the replacement screw measurements ?
#8 x 1/2"
Thanks for asking this lol.
I hate the sound of styrofoam...my goodness...lol great video by the way
Thanks!
thanks for taking the time out to make a video to help us diy installers.. much appreciated. great tips as well
kevin barreto Thanks for the comment!
Awesome video you explained everything well one question is are the speaker in the back 6 1/2 as well
Thank you. Yes, on this vehicle they were 6 1/2 for both front and rear.
Big Dog50001 Automotive also is it the same adapter for the rear speakers as the front to mount them
You saved me some time for sure. I thought I was going to have to remove my back seat like a coupe. Thanks!
👍
Love this video yow... caz I'm.like monk I don't like cutting up ne thing in my car
lol
You are a godsend. Thank you for all of the links for the parts too!
Thanks for the comment!
Thanks so much I feel like a dumbass I've been drilling through the metal and trying to line up all holes (metal, adapter, speaker)
Thank You So Much Buying Component Speakers And Didn't Want To Break My FA5 Doors 💯💯💯
Okay but what speakers are the best bang for my buck?
Alpine
Good
👍
You can apply oil slightly on the buttons of the door panel. I did it and if something goes wrong in the future, I can easily remove them easily. Oil doesn’t harm rubber but dust can 😅.
Hi Big Dog20001, Any chance of knowing the screw size you used to fit the speaker spacers in the front doors? Cheers.
Yes the adapter does he have to use it
Thank you for taking the time to make this nice tutorial.
Douglas Silva Thanks!
Thanks for this tutorial I was planning on replacing all my speakers soon this was good info you provided.
Thank you for your video. I finished my speaker installation with your help!
bigdog any videos on installing component speakers in these civic with cross overs? for front and rear?also, installing tweeter on the dash? would appreciate it!

Excellent video, thank you for showing and explaining how to do this!!
What's the adaptor called? I'm currently doing mine and don't know how to communicate what I need.
perfect video, thanks a bunch
Thank you.

Thank you so much for posting. Excellent video, straight to the point.
Where would I be able to get the adapter wire for the speakers
I have links in video description and in a pinned comment with the parts I used.
Best "how to" yet, nice work!
Thanks!
@Big Dog50001 what are the replacement screw measurements
Why do you unplug the brake like for the back
You don't have to unless you have a model that needs the entire rear deck removed to replace the speakers.
For the connector its better to tear it from the factory speaker rather than cut it from the car
Does anybody know the polarity of tweeter's harness?
My A/C compressor is always running when the car gets warm (when i freshly start it 10-15 mins) my compressor running is KILLING my MPG, From 24/26 to 21/22....
I need help, I used the correct aftermarket wiring harness, kit, and it was a touch screen pioneer.
Might the problem be the A/C controls under the stereo)? I switched the sensor in the front hood, checked the plugs in front and had them tested. Nothing bad from the computer.
a619ko a619ko Did it start immediately after installing a stereo in vehicle? If so, then I would definitely pull radio and go back over your install and double check everything. You can also check your relay for your AC by swapping it with known good and make sure it isn't sticking closed at times.
Well, I managed to remove the front door panel, but while doing this 2 or 3 of the plastic "plugs" that fit in the door broke off. Anyone any suggestion on how to avoid breaking them? I removed the panel rather carefully, but on every video I see everyone removes the panel pulling it with a lot of force.
Most of the time the factory clips do not break, they just stick in the door (aftermarket ones are more brittle and do break easily though). If they didn't break, they can be removed and put back on door panel and reused in most cases. If not, then there are replacement ones available.
Do you need to disconnect the battery before if you cut off the wire and connect the wires together instead of connectors?
Not necessary to disconnect battery for speaker install, but I would make sure key is out and radio is off first.
Thank u 🍻🍻
Do any of you guys know if I need the speaker adapter? Because I found speakers on amazon and it says flush fit they are 6 1/2"
It sounds like they will most likely need an adapter.
So are all of these speakers the same model?
Richard Vargas Yes they are.
Big Dog50001 wow, very very NOICE!
question for you big dog - i am putting some 2-way speakers in my 2008 honda civic ex. i cut the incoming wire connector off and used posi-clips to join the wires from the speaker. there are 4 posts on my newly introduced alpine 2-way speakers. do the other 2 posts have to run through the tweeters that came with the alpines?
Sorry, I am not sure. I don't think you need to make any more connections, but without seeing what you have in front of you it is difficult to say.
Hello friend, congratulations on the video, I'm Brazilian, and I would like to know how you found the connectors for the speakers, I'm looking for but not yet found to buy.
Thank you very much
I know they are available from Amazon here in the US and I am sure there are other sellers out there. I left the part numbers in the description to make it easy to search for them. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks alot
Thanks for the comment!
I usaually don't comment on youtube, but I just want to say thank you. My both front speakers didn't work for a while and I didn't know why. After I watched your video, I tried to fix myself. Now, It works perfect! Thank you for your such informative video.
Jaeyoung Yoo Thanks for the comment, glad it helped!
Hi, Nice Video Btw.
I am having a problem with my 07 Civic LX.
It seems to have a weird problem with an electrical issue...
i have the car running and the battery is draining. so i changed the alternator and the battery and its still draining...
Funny part is that, if i turn on my Headlights ON the battery holds charge instead of draining it more.. not sure how to fix that one..
Could be a ton of stuff, and it's hard to tell from the way you worded it, but first keep it simple, check belt and tension. Check all connections at alternator. Check fuses going to alternator (I believe they are the #3 and #10 in under dash fuse box on that model). Check and make sure Charging System Indicator (battery light) in dash comes on when you put key in On (II) position). Check voltage at battery when vehicle is running, should be 13-14v. Check for any trouble codes in PCM (engine computer), you might have codes for the Electric Load Detector (ELD) (P1297 or P1298).
hey Mate just a quick question, does the sound quality better in after market speaker than the company ones? because i got the same speaker but when i compared the quality i noticed it was not good as company speakers.
Sound quality is very subject, I generally like stock speakers on many vehicles because they usually are matched to the acoustics of the vehicle. Others like aftermarket speakers, so it just depends.
Fantastic Video! only thing i screwed up was i lost the middle peice of the safety pin behind the driver door handle. I think i'll survive without it though, lol.
EvanMc Thanks!
You are a legend mate
Thanks for the comment!
Good tunes buddy

7:10 is the wire adapter is necessary for all speaker aftermarket? or I just use the existing wire plug to a new speaker that I installed?
The wire adapter makes it easy to use aftermarket speakers, it allows them to plug directly in. Otherwise the vehicle speaker wire has to be cut and spliced or somehow adapted to the new speakers.
I wish I would've watched this video first. I didn't know the grills came off and now I have to figure out how to put my backseat back in.
Eric Prater Oh dang.
Can you reuse the speaker bracket that comes with the car?
Wondering if the Oem speakers for the front doors are the same as the rear speakers? If I just wanted to replace the speakers in the rear, could I order some front door speakers? I can't seem to find specific speakers for the rear, so I'm assuming that they are the same.
John Dobbs On the model in video, all 4 speakers were the same.
Hey this is a great video and really helpful but do you have the link to the exact Pioneer speakers that you bought?
Sorry, I don't know what speaker model they were. Thanks for the comment!
Will 6.5 coaxial speakers fit on the front door? They have tweeters so i guess they take more space. I have a coupe.
I don't know without seeing them, but yes tweeters take up extra space and if they stick out too far they might not fit. The speakers I installed in this video had tweeters but they did not stick out very far. Usually it is the 3 way speakers with a mid-range that stick out too far and will not fit (but that isn't always the case).
Might be a stupid question, but why do you need the speaker adapters Anyway? Can't you screw the speakers directly to the place where the original speaker was mounted (maybe drilling some extra holes)?
Yes it is possible to not use adapters and that is always an option, but the speakers may sit too far inside door and/or may not fit the opening properly depending on speaker size. Adapters usually make speaker installs much easier.
@@BigDog50001 Thanks for your help! I thought using 6.5inch (16.25 cm) speakers with depth of 4.5 cm should fit. If you use adapters the front of the speakers come forward and may stick out too much for the side panel?
@@harrievangeffen Yes, I used the Metra adapters (part # 82-7805) for my '07 Civic sedan. This is precisely the issue I'm facing, a clearance problem. The adapters are too deep and push my new speaker out to the point where the door panel won't come back on.
@@kaziu312 sounds like you may need to use a hot knife and trim back the adapter.
@@123andme I broke off extra tabs with a plier and sanded the surface.
What length screws did you use? Not sure what size to get..
I believe I used #6 x 5/8 in. pan head screws.
I really appreciate you getting back to me.. getting ready to do mine... I'll let you know how it goes
Thank you soo much
Appreciate the comment!
are the brackets for front and rear the same ?
Honda civic same year looks tottaly different in the uk
Huge help, had two shifts of work and I got the left speaker replaced in the little hour and a half between the shifts.
👍
So how many 6.5 adapters do I need and what size speakers
Awesome video! I see you're a Harbor Freight customer like myself. Good stuff man.
Rho Main Thanks!
What's the screw size you used when mounting the speaker to the bracket?
It was probably a #6 x 5/8 in. but I don't remember for sure.
cool bro
Thank you!
What is causing only my two front speakers to be out? Went out at the same time
Needs troubleshooting, could be both speakers are blown or possibly a problem with the head unit.
Did u need self tapping screws for the speaker shells to connect the speakers?
I reused the screws that held the speakers in place on the new adapters. I used new screws for the speakers. I do not believe any were self tapping because I was only going in to plastic.
