Besides looking phenomenal and knowing his stuff.. you can also tell John is just a regular dude that loves the gym. It is always refreshing to see guys give hacks and tips to enjoy food, rather than saying just toughen up and eat egg whites and plain chicken. We definately need more from John!

I love beets! Me and my girl have a garden. I grow lots of beets, amongst lots of other veggies also. I pickle them and put them on everything. Salads, pasta salads. Sandwiches, as well as straight out the jar. Good snack too. I’ve taken a jar to the gym and let people try them. They love em!
My pre-workout meal consists of: Strawberries, blueberries, broccoli, spinach, carrots, tomatoes, celery, banana, pineapple, oats, oatmilk, whey protein isolate, beet root powder, L-Arginine, L-Citrulline, maca root powder, moringa leaf powder, barley powder. All blended up into a shake. It tastes like a chocolate shake. I eat half a blueberry muffin with that and I'm good to go for 2-3 hour workouts. The L-Citrulline and beet root powder both act as a nitric oxide. All this won't fill me up too much either. A big bowl of what John here is eating, will make me feel too full for a workout.
Water cress works better than beet root. Harder to make but gd guys. Endless legs. Take a full bag. Run it threw a juicer. Gives you an small amount of extract. Super spicy so you need to cut it with something. I used granny apples but thats a lot of sugar so find a low sugar that don't cause cancer. Idk well worth the hassle to make it.
I have a food sensitivity to oatmeal & whey protein . Love the taste but they bloat me worse than a water buffalo. I use grits instead…. Mix it with my egg whites, cinnamon & stevia…. It’s similar to a rice pudding texture.
@muscleandstrength i did like it, need to tweak a few things (I think I added to much liquid, ore cook it a bit longer), also maybe a different flavor of protein powder. This will most definitely be a part of my breakfast for awhile. Thanks from Sweden
You're just used to training on an empty stomach, I generally have a baked potato and green onions for the carbs, seems to help my lefts, especially on chest and leg days !!
For anyone questioning the ingredient that seems out of place, you should know there are plenty of sweet breakfast rice dishes that are common in a lot of Asian countries.

Looks super tense , probably full of anxiety and his brain seems a few seconds slower than the average human of his age. I pity him and fear for his future when the rages become uncontrollable

John i am a pre-diabetic 59yo male. I have been in the weights for about 4 years consistently. I don't take any meds for dm2, I regulate it with food. What is a good pre-workout meal for me

@@johnjewett7970 Hi Jonh, good morning, I have always trained on an empty stomach and I have been training for 25 years, I only take my big noise of Redcon, essential amino acids and I take creatine and 30 g of carbohydrate powder with 1 g of Himalayan pink salt to take during training. And the truth I train very intense and very heavy, but my workouts are very short to be able to get to do shoulder press, chest with 110 LB, 120 lb to work 8 to 6 REPS. I am 41 years old. Many congratulations for your great work my friend.
100-150g of oats is too much fiber? It is crazy how bodybuilders have damaged gut microbiome.. Did you know that if you eat for example legumes daily after lets say 10-20 days you digest beans almost like it's white rice and you have zero gas and bloating? I couldn't believe that it is possible, but now I am eating beans with all my rice and meat meals and I digest it exactly the same, like when I eat just the rice.. 150g of oats is nothing. 30 minutes after eating it I don't know that I just had bowl of oatmeal.. But most bodybuiliders have so small prebiotic(soluble fiber) intake that they can get bloated and gassy so easily..
It’s not a super complicated recipe to follow- I feel after a few times you could make this meal in under 10 minutes! It’s not easy to work full time and live this lifestyle but it can be done! What is your pre-workout meal ?
@muscleandstrength I'm big on eggs before a workout, actually. I like how light they are on my stomach and the focus and sustained energy. I also have no problem with relatively high fiber meals - especially fruit, whole grain bread or oats - before training

Pro tip: Beets (or powder) are very complimentary with cocoa if you dislike the earthy taste (same with spinach and spirulina btw)

Or cranberry juice/diet cranberry juice. I use diet for less sugar, it also goes well with beet powder makes it not taste as bitter
