Nice clean sewing job and clear tutorial! The only thing I would recommend to newbies is to hem the ruffle first. Such a large loop is a lot easier to work with while it is still flat, ungathered, and not connected to the rest of the dress. 😅
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have some pre-shirred fabric and want to make dresses for my daughters. I am very green when it comes to sewing so I love the little extras like the straps and ruffle you did. They make it look so cute....and not to hard to do either. Thank you for explaining so simply.
Thank you so much. My granddaughter and I made this dress with a different fabric. Now we are going to try it with the same fabric you used. Your directions are perfect. The best part was learning how to do the shirring.
I used to make this kind of dress for my daughter when she was a little girl, starting when she was about two. She is now in her 40’s. I would make it be a top to wear with shorts or make it dress length. I would use a piece of fabric selvage-to-selvage wide and sew as many rows of shirting as it needed to make it small enough to fit her circumference. And make it as long as needed for a top or dress. I made the straps like you did, only without elastic inside. I might try making one for myself now.
Hi! May I please know the thread size/diameter? Would a 0.5mm diameter do? I wanted to make this dress but wasn’t sure which size of elastic thread to use. Thanks 😊
I adore the dress and how clear you explained the making of the dress. It looks absolutely beautiful on you. Sadly I am waiting for my sewing machine to come home from the repair shop when it does, your dress is at the top of my make list ready for my holidays! Thank you 😊
You are an amazing teacher! I'm quite dodgy at shirring. I just made it today. I love the pattern I just needed to listen when you said draw lines if it's not a pattern with lines cause that shirring is wack I made bigger straps for me too. Great beginners dress would recommend and I personally love your style of teaching I can't wait to try more from you! Learned to actually take the measurements and cut everything correctly thank you! 😊 ❤
Hello Beautiful, like to give it a go. Your not mentioned how much fabric to use, give us idea, fabric needed. Thank you, for well explained videos.😊 Carola, Australia.
This style of dress is perfect for summer and also reminds me of my childhood ❤️ I find them so comfy to wear and perfectly fitted without lots of work!
Thanks heaps for the lovely Tutorial! When doing the shirring, did you use the elastic thread in your bobbin and as your main thread? Also what stitch type did you use? Did you use normal stitch length and width? Thanks heaps!
Hi Tammy I’m a complete newbie but luckily found your channel 😆 My 1.5 x bust measurement comes out at 58.5” however I have a smaller piece of fabric with a width of 55” and wondering if I can squeeze this dress out of it by reducing the top section width down a bit. Surely with all the elastic shirring this might be doable? What are your thoughts? Apologies if this is a daft question 😊Many thanks.
Are you using a zigzag stitch and if so, what is the length? Love the tutorial and dress. Now I am going to make a dress for my 5 year old grand daughter, wish me luck! BTW, does the calculations work for all sizes/measurements? Thank you.
So beautiful!!!❤ The fabric is very cute and the shirring perfect for summer. I tried this week to shir a top bur my machine doesn't want to collaborate 😂
This is so pretty! 😃 That colour looks amazing against your skintone, really really flattering on your bronzed skin.♥️ Yellow would make me look even more white... 🤣 ...but I have some gorgeous pale blue cotton with tiny white flowers all over and that's what I'll be using to make this dress. ☺️ We're supposed to be getting 32°c here by mid August so i might make a few of these to keep me cooler whilst looking pretty. (Plus cotton is great against the boobs for keeping the sweat at bay!) 😵 New subscriber! 😁 I've been sewing years, craft items or home items, like bags, book covers, cushions, curtains etc...but I've just started attempting clothing for myself. Never attempted shirring before so let's hope I am ok at it! 🙄 From one UK Tami to another Tammy, thank you! 😘😘😘
Adorable dress, excellent instructions ❤ I watched in awe while you sewed the elastic for the stirring and then the steam ironing was pure magic ! Wow I can’t wait to make mine. TY
I absolutely love watching your videos! You do such nice work. I have a question with regards to the elastic. I can't seem to make it gather. I have the tension set at either 4 or 5 and wound the bobbin loose or added a little tension to it. Not sure why it turns out to be an ordinary stitch?
Thank you so much! You might need to actually tighten a screw on the bobbin case - I did this once when it wasn't working on my old machine and that did the trick!
Girl I love how you explain everything so clearly and in an easy to follow along manner for us beginners. I learned some new techniques. I am going to give this a try for a summer dress with some bedsheets for fabric 🙈 Thank you for sharing! ♥
This is super cute, I love the fabric you picked. Do you think it would work with silk? I bought really nice silk fabric and now i don't know what to do with it 😃🫣 (it was discounted).

Thank you so much! So glad you loved the tutorial ❤️
Thank you for the video. I am planning to teach my 9 yr old granddaughter how to sew and am using this idea for a dress she can have a go at making .
I made myself a maternity dress just like this one out of a fine cotton sari, years ago. It was beautiful and so light weight for summer.
Oh wow that sounds gorgous!
Sooo cute! I’m a beginner and the way you laid out the steps makes it seem like it’s something I can totally try. 😊
So glad you find this tutorial helpful and easy to understand! You should totally try it ❤️

Love the tutorial! I might’ve missed it, but I was wondering if you had the main dress stitch to attach it on the side or directly in the back?
Beautiful dress!
Thank you so much!
Fabulous tutorial I'm a size 16 about what width fabric will I need ? I'm a 40 inch bust but don't want it too tight ?
Many thanks
Glad you love the tutorial. I would always advice a wide fabric width like 55inch.

love this! didn't knew stretchy thread was a thing. is it possible to add sleeves to this?
Hi! May I please know the thread size/diameter? Would a 0.5mm diameter do? I wanted to make this dress but wasn’t sure which size of elastic thread to use. Thanks 😊
Yes 0.5mm is the standard size for elastic thread ❤️ I hope you enjoy sewing it!
Thank you! - you explained it perfectly and I'm going to try this next!

Hello
Beautiful, like to give it a go.
Your not mentioned how much fabric to use, give us idea, fabric needed.
Thank you, for well explained videos.😊
Carola, Australia.
So glad you love my videos! I would by 2.5 metres of fabric to give you enough to play with! :)
It'll look cute 🥰 with pockets and much longer as a maxi dress 👗❤️👍😘
That would be a lovely hack!
This reminds me of dresses from my youth. I really like it. Maybe I need a few for summer.
This style of dress is perfect for summer and also reminds me of my childhood ❤️ I find them so comfy to wear and perfectly fitted without lots of work!

Have you seen the Prym shirring elastic that you use with regular thread?
Oh wow I’ve just googled this and it looks so cool!! I’ve never seen or heard of this!! Need to try this asap 😂 thank you for sharing x
Hi, can you tell us what tension(on the sewing machine) you have used to do the shirring please.
That turned out so beautiful, thank you for the easy directions.
So glad you love the tutorial ❤️
It is very nice
what is the inch between the 2 rows of elastic at the top of the rug if you don't have fabric with and pre-printed line
I would do 1/2" between each line ❤️
@@Tammy.Handmade thank you for the answer
Hi, this is so cute! Just to clarify, you only used the elastic in the bobbin and not in the top as well, correct? Thank you.
Thank you! Yes you only use elastic in the bobbin, the top is just normal thread that matches the colour of your fabric ❤️
Hi Tammy I just found your channel and subbed, love this dress. Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much! ❤️

Thank you! I’ve never tried it with silk but it should work fine! Just would probably be very tricky to handle and sew with ❤️
Super cute and easy
So glad you love my tutorials ❤️
Very clear and easy.
So glad you love my tutorials ❤️
Very nice job. 👌
Thank you so much!
What stitch length and weath did you use ? Did you used a stretch stitch.
Regular straight stitch is fine
You can use a normal stitch length but you can also make it slightly wider.
I wish you'd shown us what you did at the end of each row of shirring.... did you cut or just turn?
I normally sew a few stitches down and then turn
Stunning. Yes will make this dress ❤🧵💃🏽
I made this and it turned out so cute and comfy! Thanks for the tutorial!
So glad you love the tutorial ❤️
Love the dress ❤
Will try it !!
This was a great tutorial!!!!!
Thank you!! ❤️
What stitch length did you use making this dress and did you change stitch length after sewing in the elastic whirring? Thank you
Shirring
I just found you short video on shirring tips and you answered my questions, again thank you❣️subscribed🤗😁
I'm gonna make mine with regular elastic, is th elastic the same as the length of the fabric?
If you’re using regular elastic you’ll want it to be 1.5 times less of the width of fabric.
Cute tutorial! Thank you!
So glad you love the tutorial ❤️
Thank you.very helpful and easy to understand
After each row to you cut the elastic or turn and keep going?
This is actually up to you, I prefer to turn and keep going but you can do either way :)
You’re so pretty! Thank you for the tutorial 😊
Very very helpful. Very good instructions 👍
So glad you love it! ❤️
WOW! Outstanding, thanks so much:)
You're very welcome!
Beautiful!
When Shirring your material do you need a special foot on your machine what do you set your stitch on.
