  • In this video I go over a method for getting rid of noise when doing direct guitar recording. Often times when recording guitars directly you'll get hum, hiss, etc from EMFs around you. Using this you can reduce this noise. This can also be used for recorded amps, but it might be slightly less effective. The plugins featured are listed below.

    Adjust your gain controls on your amp or amp sim..Stomps contribute to background noise if the levels aren't set properly.. Good quality guitar cable helps too.. Remember that anytime you increase gain on amps,stomps, plugins etc. You have to reduce it somewhere else. Turn input gains down before turning channel gains up. Once you get the noiseless tone you want, turn the output volume up for louder sound but remember to do gain reduction to the next device in the chain.

    Its a ground loop. You need to seperate the dirty power from your soundcard. If its usb soundcard get an idefender 3 it really helped me.

      What do you mean by seperate the dirty power from the soundcard?

      @@bryan25cool my soundcard can be usb powered . What i found a
      Was the power source from the p.c was causing the noise. So i heard about the idefender product which in effect gives the soundcard fresh power source and blocks the p.c as a power source which was 'dirty'

    Hi and thanks for the walkthrough Chandler... I have an simular problem, but in my setup its even worse. It's so annoying that I often find myself not recording anything. It's been ages since I infact recorded a whole song due to my problem. I have an even higher hiss/hum sound and it dosen't get any better with trying to angle away from the PC/monitor etc. - I have heard that people said that that a ground-loop is causing the noises. I also found some filters to buy that would fix that problems, but I can't find it again (kinda lost them) - But anyway -tnx again for the walkthrough video. -Regards from Arnt Petter in Norway

      Hi again - yes, I think I've found the sollution through a USB G.L. "box", but I am unsertain if it will work here in Norway since we have 50hz in our electrical system and where I found it it's for 60hz. -But if I find it cheap enough I'll buy it just to try it. -I think it's worth the shot. -tnx again Chandler.

      Try ReaFir plugin of reaper daw. It's significantly reduces to almost zero. Also, get your guitar serviced and cables changed

    the denoise is the laaaast option because it gives you tooo much latency and makes the guitar sound unnatural

    I have noise only when hit the strings and play. As soon as I stop playing the noise goes off..What that could be? Thank you.

      Are you using a noise gate. If not I'm not sure whats causing it.

    • @TheRezus35
      @TheRezus35 7 лет назад

      Of course I do. Trash, Attack, Release..and it somewhat kills the noise, but it kills the sound and sustain to almost unplayable situation.

    • @Chandlerguitar
      @Chandlerguitar  7 лет назад +2

      That is what's causing the noise only when you aren't playing. If you remove the noise gate you'll have constant noise, like what you hear in the video. The noise is caused by EMF and various electronics such as your pickups, cables, interface, etc.

      Thank you. Just to make it clear: the noise ocurs when I do play. I engage the noise gate, and everything is silent and ready to play, BUT as I start to play, the noise comes up. I stop playing, the noise stops too. My interface is M-Audio ProKeys Sono61 (it was advertised as "one in all ready to go" audio interface for musicians etc..) Is there some guitar cable that can actually eliminate this noise?

      Noise when you touch strings means your output jack is wired backwards.
