In 1980's there are No internet, no mobile phones, no cell phone tower, no video games, no IT companies, every one will have cycle or TVS XL or bike at the max, ambassador car, no media domination, only newspapers or radio/solidare TV, even with income of Rs.2000 we can live happily, no private banks only indian bank and centralized bank.
@S.Heramba Ganapathy....I remember, way back in 1983 when I was 15 years old, the MRF - Daily Temperature sign was put up on the front side of Tarapore Towers (Now on top). At that time, Tarapore Towers was one of the youngest buildings in Madras. I think, it must have been built in the early 80s. Back then, the lanes in Mount Road did not have numbers like you see in 0:10. This video must have been taken in the late 80s.
@Akash Akks 31 , until 1999 Chennai was like this only . The big changes started happening from 2004 . After 2006 people started living in a new lifestyle
This video must be around 1995 that's when lane traffic was introduced in Mount Road, and car, bikes, MTC buses should stick on to their respective lanes switching should be done only at places where xxxxxxxxxxx are marked on the road, that's when the subdivided lanes were given thick coat of white paint, from video starting till 0.27 all markings clearly visible, looks like this is taken from new Spencer's building.
Now I am surprised to see no bicycles on Chennai roads. In the 1980s I used to cycle freely to British Council library from Kodambakamm, crossing Palmgrove Hotel and Gemini Studios. Very sad that people who cannot afford a bike or car cannot use the Chennai roads for bicycles anymore.
Who con,t love their own city where they belong to offcource MADRAS our Chennai is always in the top for me in this world. There is another town called Madras located at Oregon , in United States of America .
I am in my late 40s and brought up in Madras. In my opinion, this video could have been taken in 1984 or 1985. The Maruti small car was introduced in 1981 and the Maruti minivan was introduced in 1984. The two vehicles gained popularity throughout the 80s and by the late 80s, the whole Anna Salai was full of these Maruti cars and Vans. In this video, I saw a few Maruti cars and one Maruti Minivan. So I presume, the year of this video could be 1984 or 85 at the latest. Also, the traffic in Anna Salai became quite horrendous by the late 80s. This video shows a mid-day light traffic by Anna Salai standards. That is another reason to put the year of this video at 84 or 85.
Remember the Dolphin Car introduced in Bangalore. Also remember the long queues that were there for booking. The car went out of public view as fast as it came. Then the maruthi 800 came out, it was the start of the mini car revolution.
But looking at the traffic and the video quality it looks like 90s only- because in 80s it must have been shot in film or on VHS/Umatic video which would not be so sharp if digitized - but green buses and autos were very much there in 80s
Sriram Krish I said if digitised . There were great cameras even then - I didn’t mean that cameras didn’t shoot sharp images then - they did - but then analog was 3:4 size only and the lines were basically not of the HD density ( like being equivalent to 1080 p/i or even 720 p ) - so when those analog pictures were to be digitised - that too in HD - the resolution would not be to this level . That is what I meant .
