I had a bit of a flippy swing getting the ball too high and with a hook pattern. I could never get an angle of attack below -1.5 - I then tried this bowed move - it delofted the club gave me a much better angle of attack with better lag and lower launch angle and ball was going much straighter 🤙🏻
I'm a taller golfer at 6'5" and this technique works for me also, although not at DJs caliber 🤣. I run lefty loosey at the top and focus on facing my right palm square to the target at impact and for whatever reason this works for me. It doesn't seem to effect my loft at all unless I add some shaft lean.
Except his wrist is still bowed at impact. Bowing the wrist closes the club face, as you say. But, that doesn't mean the club is "de-lofted" to a detrimental degree, though it may decrease dynamic loft slightly. Even still, this has little to do with "not being able to get the ball in the air". A one iron and a lob wedge can both go in the air, though they have vastly different lofts. Obviously a certain amount of loft is required, but getting the ball in the air is more about where you strike the ball on the club face. The most bowed wrist in the word at impact is still only going to minimally alter the loft presented.
@@aarongarner252 Are you stupid af? I said, "it doesn't mean its de-lofted to a detrimental degree" not that it's not de-lofted at all, and I said that "it does decrease dynamic loft". Learn to read you dud, and learn to write while your at it. Embarrassing.
I have seen in other videos that you should keep the lead wrist flat on the back swing and then bow it on the downswing, to shallow the club which increases control and power
That bent wrist can get your club on plane as an alternative to rotating your forearm clockwise. If you want to a player to flatten the wrist you might have him concentrate on arm rotation instead.
ok, so lets do an experiment. You go out tomorrow and SNAP YOUR wrists. and ONLY YOUR WRISTS and see how far you hit the ball. Don't use your trunk, legs, shoulders, arms... but only SNAP YOUR WRISTS. Then report back your results. n00b.
It's still bowed at impact that this guy doesn't explain. Watch top speed golf Dustin Johnson video and they'll explain his swing properly and educationally.
So he's bowed at the top and flat at impact. To do that, it seems, he'd have to twist the grip to the right or clockwise in the downswing? Anyone? If so, wouldn't that be hook proof?
it is not the wrist, it is the right elbow and right shoulder flexibility, flex ur wrist like DJ is super easy, but try maintain the right elbow pointing to the ground like 1:00, it is HARD and need exercise;
Tell me about it. I just started playing golf last year at 38. This is the 1 thing i am trying to accomplish. I have a not extreme cup hank was showing but it's not flat. Seems i can get it flat but i lose a ton of back swing. Ive tried all kinds of stuff so far
That doesn't make any sense. Go get a 1 iron and have someone bend it to 0 degrees of loft and tell me how well your compression gets the ball in the air.
This is an odd way for him to describe the swing. DJ just starts the face square to his spine angle on the takeaway and doesn't do anything to further open the face up -- he just checks it around P3 -- makes sure it's at the same angle as his spine. We saw him warming up a couple years ago at the Valero Texas Open -- he would just take it back to first parallel and check his spine was locked into the same angle as his face. That was it. And he doesn't hold off the face on the impact/follow through. He doesn't twist the face further closed but he sure as heck does release that extended/cupped right wrist and releases it in the same way you would throwing a ball -- I don't see him dragging handles or holding anything off. He maintains an amazing rt lateral bend -- but he throws that extended wrist away aggressively
Your analysis is perfect👏👍. Also, there's a TM video of DJ and Morikawa talking that they don't try at all to bow the left wrist. They know the face is shut, and they release to the bottom arc and then throw the right hand exactly like you said. This guy in the video just complicates too much talking abt DJs swing.
This is all wrong. Left wrist should be bowed at impact and compression will assist with getting the ball into the air. All Dustin is doing is setting his left wrist bowed in the takeaway rather than the follow through, it needs to happen somewhere for the right impact position.
women and men, etc miss the main aspect of the swing, and that is to shallow out that shaft vs having it vertical at set up. this is what the pros know. a vertical set up promotes a wheel like steep circumference swing that has people, topping, chunking, over the topping, and all kinds of mess. but, if you master how to shallow out the shaft at address, you will have a flatter, more hoola hoop type circumference swing and you can sweep, compress and do whatever you want with the ball. if this has went over your head, then you have a bad address of the shaft angle and are having issues. 😋
Yet the greatest golfer ever arnold Palmer had a very vertical attack. The swing depends on the player as proven by all the golf pros who have very different swings.
Any swing is about the standard you can reach and then, just as importantly repitition. Hank Haney teaches several tour pros, including during the course of his career, one Tiger Woods. Do you guys really think you know more than a guy who gets paid millions of dollars a year to provide coaching services to the best in the World?
All the top pros agree that Dustin Johnson hits the ball like does because of the extreme rotation of his hips through the ball. He also takes the club slightly outside the line and on a steep angle which compensates for the shut club face
IMHO, Very poor swing analysis. DJ is basically a square throughout golf swing. The club face is almost always pointing tangential to the instantaneous swing arc -{square}. Resultant- Reduced manipulative error in timing and sequencing.
What DJ has perfected is to keep the club face square all the way thru his entire golf swing. Haney is talking a lot of rubbish when he says the club face is closed at the top of DJ's back swing. Everyone can do their own little test because the proof is in the pudding. Setup to the ball like DJ does. Take note of the position of the club face. Then keep your hands passive and move all the way to the top of the back swing like DJ does. Again take note of the position of the club face. Without manipulating your hands bring it back to the golf ball. Voila the club face is in the exact same position as it was at address. Club face is still square. THE CLUB FACE IS ONLY CLOSED IF DJ ROLES HIS HAND THRU IMPACT....WHICH HE DOES NOT DO
***** Pointless debating with you. As you have no idea what you are talking about. You probably heard someone talk about a closed club face 50 years ago in a time and age when the golf swing was all about rolling your hands thru impact to square the club face. But since then the golf swing has evolved into a body release action when the hand are no longer rolled thru impact. And now you are just repeating this 50 year old wisdom like a parrot. I guess DJ and me are world wonders then because we both hit perfectly straight shots with "closed club" faces at the top of our back swings. Seriously dude. The club face can only be considered open, square or closed at the moment of impact.

They're comparing him to other golfers, dipshit. No one's saying he's more athletic than LBJ. But he uses his height and flexibility to produce 190 mph ball speeds while still squaring the club enough to hit 25 yard fairways--trust me, Andre Iguodala, golfing fanatic and a similar build, is jealous.
So athletes are people who can run faster and can bulldoze other people in football and who make hysterical catches and who can jump higher than other people? I hate that argument so much. Golfers need to have hand eye coordination and flexibility. Mental game is also important. Golfers probably need the most mental strength since it is an individual sport and not a team one.
It's more than just coordination you need to be athletic to hit the ball like Dj. You can be coordinated all you want. You will never drive the ball and Carry 340+ in the air. You need to be a freak and generate alot of power.

The bowed left wrist adds to the speed of his release before impact.

You don't need loft to get the ball up, You need compression
