      *sigh*
No offense dude, but this kind of stuff is getting kind of ridiculous and even stupid for you to whine about so much.
And sorry if the comment is really long, I'm just trying to explain a bit.
I just think it's so stupid that so many people have the stupid desire to deconstruct seemingly every cool aspect of history and take the wonder out of all of it.
And to be blunt, that sort of stuff comes off as those people being jealous nerds who are jealous of a jock or jocks and then later try to rewrite history or whatever to make the parts they like look better than the ones they don't.
I know you're channel is more focused on Japanese history and all, but I'm sure you've heard about the Spartans of ancient Greece and how they were supposed to have been pretty badass warriors and all.
I'll just say this. Historians have debated how much of the tales of the Spartans were true or not, but in recent years, a number of fools who call themselves historians have been pretty trying to say that Spartans weren't even special in anyway at all, that they were just another city state that was no different than many others.
Yeah, I know they weren't some kind of ancient Captain America super soldiers who could each beat up 10 regular men, but I do also know the great difference actual training and such will make when it comes to how effective they are in battle.
Because the majority of the armies back in those times were militias, as in not full time soldiers. And I can understand how the Spartans have a bunch of highly trained soldiers could give rise to the idea of them being some sort of super soldiers and such when almost everyone else was still using mostly militia armies.
      But you get the point.

    - Lord Sneek has his glands removed to not give off his emotions, he uses this to great effect during Council of Thirteen meetings.
    - Eshin is also often employed by other clans for not only assasinations, but also infiltration and sabotage, one of the most known things they do is drilling holes into ships, stealing or altering intel, poisoning garrisons via water supplies and sabotaging weaponry

Ikit Claw is dangerous because he's the best enigneer of the Skaven.

Snikch is dangerous because he somehow taught himself to control how Skaven-like his mind is at any given moment. And that makes him terrifyingly efficient. Does he still have all the same impulses and thoughts as your average Skaven that normally cause them to sabotage themselves and others? Oh yes, of course. But when those thoughts and impulses would get in the way of the mission, he's the only Skaven I've ever read about who can just IGNORE them until the job is done.

There’s some meat to the idea of them being perversions of ninja. Skaven who somehow managed to take the lessons of ninjutsu for themselves, then applied them in the most Skaven way possible. They tore out anything that was good or compassionate or thoughtful and formed a deadly, monstrous, mocking parody which could create only bloodshed and strife. Funnily enough, only Grandmaster Sneek and Deathmaster Snikch seem to be the only ones to actually _have_ proper Shinobi Training. What the Rest of Clan Eshin has looks to be a crude replication from a bunch of Gutter Runners who observed what Sneek and Snikch were doing and tried to do what they were doing by themselves without proper understanding of the actual teachings.
In my eyes, only Sneek and Snikch have proper training. The rest of Clan Eshin? Copycats who just blindly replicated everything they observed of Sneek and Snikch, and stuck to the crude replications.

You know, I actually kind of think that if GW had been smart enough to flesh out factions like Nippon and others, they should've played up that aspect of skaven.
Not that they should retcon Clan Eshin into sucking at what they do, but just that they, being skaven, don't quite pull it off well as the originals, as in, the ninja/shinobi of Nippon.
I mean, I'd be 100% ok with full fledged Clan Eshin assassins and Deathmaster Snikch being good at what they do, but I think that the lore writers could've played around with the idea that why there's no real skaven presence in Nippon and why no invaders have been able to really invade Nippon is in part because of the efficiency of the native ninja/shinobi.
I just like the idea that while the full fledged assassins of Clan Eshin are effective, the ninja of Nippon could be a bit more effective and efficient in how they do things, in a "the original is always the best" sort of way.

@@chubbyninja89 To be honest, I am just puzzled as to why Skaven are _ALL_ Chaotic evil, considering that actual rats are rather social creatures that have an almost militant way of life.
I mean, a group of Rats are known as a "Troop", and when it comes down to it, rats have been known to have members check to see if food left out has been poisoned. If it is (with the scout obviously dying) the rest of the Troop mark the poisoned food to ensure that other rats don't get poisoned.
Why Games Workshop insist on "Chaotic Evil Rats", I do not know, moreso with how they have pointed out that there are so many minor clans that have been undocumented, yet we don't see any subtle changes between any clans.
It actually seems to tell us that for a bunch of chaotic evil ratkins, they seem to be even more stagnant than Mankind and the Elves, which is kind of funny as they are _Chaotic_ by nature, meaning they should be constantly adapting to new data, yet they always fall back on the same old "Stabby-Stab Backsies!" all the time.

I tend to think that they did in fact barely manage to overrun a local group of ninja/shinobi in Nippon, but like most things Skaven do, didn't quite perfect it as compared to the original, in that they, still being skaven, weren't quite as effective as the actual ninja from Nippon.
And I know it's a bit of theory crafting on my part, but
I like to think that one of the big reasons why the Skaven, or other enemies for that matter, haven't invaded and conquered Nippon isn't just because of the ferocity of the samurai and such other forces of Nippon, but because of the efficiency and skill of the ninja of that land. Almost to the point where you can barely set foot in that land without the ninja knowing about it.

The way the skaven nature completely clashes with most of the things that make up a Ninja makes the Eshin lords so much more impressive and I genuinely think Skaven being Skaven is just a balancing facor because like you said if they actually were resourceful and thoughtful the World of Warhammer would be doomed. lol

So a few things about the clan as a whole and some specifics to add more "ninja" to this: 1. Generally speaking any Eshin member below the rank of Assassin is barely trained if at all and only those who reach GutterRunner rank or higher are actually given proper equipment the rest use whatever they can get their hands on, which is pretty much normal Skaven behavior . Generally speaking only Snikch and Sneak who are the top have retained the full mastery of the art they stole from when they escaped the destruction of Skavenblight and ended up in the East.
    2. In truth you can argue that Skaven as a whole have more ninja in them by way of Moulder and Skryre. You could make the argument that Moulder showcase the art of using animals that I believe was mentioned in the show before. Granted they do mutate them and mostly use them for direct combat, but they have also simply mutated normal rats and just sent them into villages and towns and allowed them to spread disease and corruption. Skryre may seem like a weird thing to note, but Gaijin himself have pointed out that Ninjas also used guns and explosives as part of their kit, both of which are Skryre's bread and butter...Or Warpstone and...Warpstone. Skryre tend to then sell their inventions and even custom made inventions to other clans for use. This is what allows you to equip Eshin members in Mordheim for example with Warplock weapons (essentially Warpstone bullet muskets) and even hire Globadiers, which could either be a direct hire from Skryre or whatever Eshin clan member the leader of the warband decided would be best at handling such dangerous items or least missed if he fumbles with them.
    3. Lastly clan Eshin's main job is actually not to assassinate, but is infiltration and sabotage. Mostly infiltrating the confines of other members of the council and any other clan for that matter so Grandmaster Sneak will ALWAYS have a clear advantage over the rest of the Skaven at all times. He also sends his most capable to spy on other races of course. So while Snikch is the most well known and is actually the best among them, there are others. We have just mostly been shown GutterRunner rank ones because they are much more common and let's face it Vermintide took the right lessons from Left 4 Dead and gave every special Skaven a sound-cue. And fun fact, only bit of info Master Sneak hasn't been able to get is the true face of Nurglitch the leader of Pestilens due to either his foulness being so overwhelming it kills the infiltrator or his true form so horrifying they die from a heart-attack (Skrolk clawed out his own eyes upon seeing his master after all).

As you have pointed out, the clan Eshin seems to be almost entirely based on the idea of ninjas being invinsible killing machines, which as you have pointed out is not historically accurate. However, for the skaven to act like that is very logical, skaven base most of their technologies on things that other races have made without understanding what makes them tick. So clan Eshin being inspired on a misconsception of ninjas as assassins is actually very fitting for skaven standards, since they don't seem to understand what ninjas are. Althought, let's be honest here games workshop likely had no idea of what a ninja actualy was when making clan Eshin.

    • @Victor-056
      @Victor-056 4 месяца назад +7

Games Workshop also doesn't seem to understand rats in general.
They are in truth very social beings that only stick to the shadows due to not only being nocturnal by nature, but because their eyes cannot handle bright lights for too long (basically, rats have a real-world version of "Darkvision" that allows them to see with little to no lighting at all).
Also, they are willing to _sacrifice_ themselves for the sake of the Troop. Yeah, a Group of Rats are known as a "Troop". Very Military-esq.
In fact, if Games Workshop had designed their Ratkins to be like actual rats, you'd find they'd be more Militaristic by mindset, with a belief in "The Needs of the Many Outweighing the Needs of the Few", and that backstabbery should only be done if the leadership's designs threaten the Troop's safety as a whole.

Fox (ninja are not supposed to be seen at all by their enemies).

He's very agile, approaches from the high angle, clades himself in blues and greys and his main 'weapon' is more of a tool to aid traversal and theft. He improvises quickly, is good with disguises and unafraid of unconventional tactics. If he can get over his pride and theatrics and he'd be an absolute beast of a shinobi.

He basically starts by him chasing the mage into a tower and then false assaulting the front door to distract everyone while he scaled the walls and climbed through the window. The captain realizes too late that it's a distraction and rushes to the aid of the mage, however when he gets there he just sees the beady red eyes of Snikch in the window looking at him before leaping out. The story ends with the mercenary captain talking about how scared he is and how he feels the shadows watching him waiting for him to fall asleep. At least I think that's how it ends, it's been a while. The short story is called Unseen I believe.

You did forget a couple important properties about Warpstone -
One, it's basically magically radioactive, putting out an AREA of poisoning and death, and disrupts normal magic cast near it due to its corruptive effects
It's also infectious, and getting flakes or scraps of it into your body can lead to it slowly converting pieces of you into warpstone, which kills you slowly after driving you mad.
Skaven are only resistant to it due to a few of their practices, but other species in the Warhammer setting are basically just overwhelmed by it.

Now I don't think they'd use them combative except anymore than they're already combat combat trained, instead further using it to enhance their information gathering, survival, and unorthodox tactics.
