There was asked whether anyone on the India side has looked in to the Rawalpindi fasadats by inquiring with hindu/sikhs who were impacted. The answer is no. In my view there are atleast two important reasons for that 1. The people who migrated to India (or were run out of Pakistan) like my family, were dispersed all over north India. It would be very difficult for anyone undertaking such an inquiry to find these people who were directly impacted by the katloaam, even if someone tried. 2. Since independence, the Indian government has actively suppressed the memory of partition. Our history books include only a passing mention of it. I learned about the trauma from my grandparents and parents. And undertood the immensity of it when I saw Gandhi, the movie. The Indian government, to build/preserve a secular character of the country buried the partition and erased it feom discourse, afraid that if people find out, what happened to minorities in Pakistan might happen to muslims in India. but u see Indian Punjab and Haryana are way ahead of Pakistan Punjab, and they became elite because of there merit but partition of india is best thing happened to india , if muslim weren't partitioned into Pakistan Bangladesh and india , india would have been a failed state
Exactly. Once Sikhs took over the area, they became rulers and occupied most the productive lands. The reason for riots lie deep in the resentment. It just needed some triggers.
Sir, The partition not only affected the people who migrated one place to another but it also hit local people as the majority of the people with high consumptions left their regions.
The reasons for non-violence in Baluchistan and Sindh are quite understandable. The relations between the two communities were more harmonious, and the poverty was on both sides of the aisle. In Punjab and in particular Rawalpindi, the relations were tense because both were living side by side. The urban commercial life of Rawalpindi was dominated by the Hindu community, the landed elite were mostly Sikhs, while the Muslims were on the fringes of the system.
