Hi Dave, Do you have a video of how to set up using this device, I've tried to find a video that tells you how to callibrate it so that it works properly but some of the videos are awful. your video's are so clear and easy to listen to.
Dave.. thank you. Took a while to even get the motor. It is being delivered this week and I will be following these instructions to install mine. Good demonstration. What other upgrades can I make to my telescope to improve its functionality? What about phone attachments, especially for iPhone?
Thanks Dave! This helped me figuring my already monted on and how to put the battery. Quick question if I may. Once that is connected I am not able to move the slow motion control. Is there a way to bypass? or once the motor is connected it is the only and main controller for the slowmotion knob?
Hi Dave, thank you for the clear video, but when I use mine I have everything setup the exact same way you have yours, yet it doesn't actually move the telescope itself. I tried with just one weight too but the motor wont actually move it.
This is a simple but tricky drive system. You have to tighten the knob to lock the telescope to the gears for that axis. You should not be able to move the telescope by hand. If you can swing the telescope around that axis by hand, the motor is just turning the worm gear but not biting the teeth of the round gear. But if the tension knob is TOO tight, the harder worm gear will EAT the threads of the circular gear. The gear should be the same color all around. If part of it is silver, those teeth have been worn down and you will need to fix this before the motor drive or even the manual controls will work. And the motor drive itself has a very specific connection to the worm gear shaft. If it isn't tightened properly against the flat part of the worm gear shaft, the motor won't make the worm gear move. Finally, the telescope might not seem to be moving if the motor is on the slowest setting. Crank the knob on the control box up (the motor should get louder). The movement should then be detectable. It is really easy to miss something even if you follow these directions here given the questionable operational and build quality of this enigmatic equipment mount.
I have a doubt, How to maintain the speed of motor drive in telescope with the object such that the object is in the centre??? Depending from how far the object is from north or south pole star , the distance does varies and also the angle.... Pls answer
Yes, absolutely perfect for that as it will keep the image stationary for you while the exposure takes, also you can vary the speed of the motor for close or far objects,
I've got an old tescope with the mount could I take my scope off and attach my camera to the top (because it fits) and could I use this to keep my camera focused to the stars
Hi Andres, great idea, yes, although we've had such poor weather of late I've been struggling to enjoy the telescope, hopefully soon!! Great video. I was inspired by your excellent and informative review of this particular telescope that I went ahead and bought it. So far, very impressed and keen to use it, though unfortunately the weather in London has been cloudy most of the month so I’m patiently waiting for clear skies! Would you recommend this telescope? I am considering buyinit but if depend on how I feel after manually adjustingm it for star tracking! Thanks once again!
Thank you for your very informative video's! In your installation, does the DEC slow motion collide with the motor if you observe high west? I had to turn the scope around such that the DEC slow motion faces the front of the scope. Also (I live in Europe) still I had to switch the motor to 'south' for it to go in the right direction.
@@hanspaulvanderlaan8105 ohk me too , I thought something is wrong with my telescope's motor 😅 By the way, for me the knob of the DEC axis hits the setting circle of RA . Does it happen with you as well sir?
I have exactly the same problem. I'm in UK but have to switch the motor to 'S' to track in the correct direction. I asked Celestron for advice and they were useless. They didn't want to know. Has anyone found an answer to why these motors track in the wrong direction?
Good video, but I have a question. When my motor is attached to the telescope, it causes my telescope to shake a little every time it makes an adjustment. It also makes a clicking sound every time this happens. Do you think this is human error caused by me not putting it together properly? Thanks.

You might want to check that the axis shafts aren't too tight. My Celestron EQ-1 mount came from the factory with mounts that were so tight and the worm gear misaligned so badly that the manual RA knob struggled to turn it by hand. There is a nut inside the mount under a plastic cover for this, same for the declination shaft. The mount also seems come packed with grease that's so thick it resembles glue more than a lubricant. Get that out of there and replace with some quality grease while you're sorting out the axis shafts. Your telescope will absolutely love you for it. The rate at which the earth rotates is steady. The adjustment know on the motor allows you to match that rate at which the earth rotates.
Hello, you can use slow motion RA Knob when motor is attached to telescope?
No it becomes fixed to the motor however you can still unlock the clutch bolt and then move the telescope freely with motor still attached.

hello. what is the inner diameter (mm) of the seat for pluging to the fine-tuning knob ?
The metal fine-tuning knob is about 5,5mm, so the seat is a little bigger.
