- The San Diego Unified School District board is meeting to vote on major layoffs to close a $94 million funding gap.
More than four hundred teachers, administrators, school bus drivers and other staff could receive layoffs next week.
Several are fighting the cuts, including a group of parents at the district’s only Mandarin immersion school where the Mandarin Resource teacher position could be eliminated.
“As you might expect there is not a lot of store-bought Mandarin language curriculum out there, and also at the district level there is really no support for that role that is critical for that,” said Jeanette Woodward, Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary PTA president. “Her role is critical to our success.”
This cut is part of the district’s efforts to close a $94 million gap after COVID relief funds end this year.

Also look at all of the companies shutting down. Macy’s just announced they are closing 150 stores. Democrats have been trying to destroy the republic since 1860. Theoretically wouldn't cutting admin salaries save some crucial teaching positions? Not entirely sure, but that's what they drilled into our heads in basic economics...

It's not the teachers that are terrible. It's the students and their parents! You have kids in elementary schools acting like teenage gang bangers. Kids cursing at teachers like drunken sailors. Kids that don't want to learn. Kids who can't learn because they have no decent home life... including homeless kids. You have parents who will tell teachers that they don't want to come to parent teacher conferences. And there's not a thing teachers can do about it because they have no support. That's just for starts. Yet parents insist that schools feed their kids 3 meals per day. Kids are lazy. Parents are lazy. Try teaching under these conditions.
Again like I said before I don't care about San Diego United District School about lay offs . This District fired me during the COVID because I wished not to be vaccinated, so they didn't hire me back, so they get what they deserve. And yes yes yes yes I'm still mad I made 15 years in 2021 just to be robbed of my job. There was know alternative method for people like me.

The Teachers Union has done such a good job. Way to go!!!! Not!!!!! I'm actually optomistic about getting rid of a whole bunch of teachers with little seniority. Most of these new teachers are TOTAL WEIRDOS.

@@cvshav bond debt is a huge factor - rda bonds took taxes away from schools to pay for bonds that cities acquired - millions wasted just on lawyers and consultants that refinance bonds ..

This country sends so much aid to Israel so they would have free education while we lay off our teachers. Immigrants are not the problem.
Don't forget the billions of dollars going to Ukraine, and yes the illegal aliens are part of the problem as they are draining resources from the government that's 32 trillion dollars in debt!
Teachers of higher grade students could be replaced with retired professionals from the community who are willing to donate their time to effort.
