oh my god THANK YOU I've been searching everywhere for a leather coffin backpack pattern that opens from the top. I actually just started to attempt to design one on my own (which would have looked awful, I'm a seamstress who has only recently gotten into leatherwork).
I don’t often write comments and I haven’t even seen the whole video but the first moment I saw this bag I whispered to myself “holy mother of god.” That’s high praise. You are a genius and this bag fucks most severely (that is a compliment). Thank you so so much for sharing it with us.
Hello from Greece again. I've started the construction of this bag. In the video tutorial you do not show any beveling or burnishing. You didn't? If you did, what parts have you beveled?
This is really beautiful. I made the mimic chest based on your patterns a few months ago, and I loved making it. I'm definitely going to try making this as well. Could you tell me what colour dyes and thread you are using?
Thank you! We used red and black thread for this one and the dyes are all shown in the video. It safer to just watch that part as I don't remember perfectly what shade of tan we had used.
Good twilight, one question arose in the process, how did you process the skin cut for the black elements? And how did the bottom behave as a result of long wearing?
Beautiful. Did you used an airgun to paint the black edges or by hand with sponge? Ok, I just saw your eeference video about dying. Thank you, clever technique.
Thanks for the tutorial. I have a Chopper that is Skull themed. I dabble in leather and airbrushing and pretty good at it too. I will make a Galante attempt at making onemofvthese this winter to hang on my sissybar for motorcycle shows. Only thing the skull should be more evil looking.
Where are the instructions for the straps? I'm looking at pattern pieces 34 and 35 and I guess I'm instinctively supposed to know how to put this together but I'm not that good. I'm no novice to leather work or stitching but can't do something I've never done before and there's no video section for it. Did I miss it in the printed instructions? Is there a video from a different pattern that shows how to put these straps together so I just don't randomly cut a piece of leather that will go to waste because I did it wrong? Or WAS it on this video and I just misses it? Help is much appreciated. 😊 Ok. I keep staring at the pattern pieces. Does 34 go on the bat or the wing pieces? I guess I can play with pc 34 until I figure it out since that seems to be the exact measurement and once I sort that piece out, I should be able to know how the other piece is stiched and just figure out the right length for me. I am a little disappointed I'll have to figure this out myself because I'm a visual learner but I'm going to check the pdf again in case I missed instructions somewhere.
Hi! We didn't show that but it's the easiest part. The ends that need to enclose a D-ring will do so along with parts 31 and 32 which go on the backpack. The other ends will either be punched or have the buckles attached to them. I hope that makes sense but if not then I'll try to elaborate more
So I have already purchased this pattern off of Etsy but I am stuck on how to properly print the pattern. Can you please provide some detailed instructions. I am using 8x11 paper. Also are you using a saddle stitch here? It's hard to tell.
You need to print it using the settings US_Letter, Actual size and I suggest using Adobe Reader. The stitching is mostly saddle stitch but some parts are cross stitch as well
This bag is extraordinary. Before purchasing your pattern I wanna ask you.. 1. In the video you use 2 mm leather. I'm afraid that without reinforcement the bag won't hold the form for a long time. What about using 1,6 mm veg tan leather plus 0,7 mm leather (pig) for lining and 0,2mm reinforcement (webtex or something similar). I like to line the bag not only for giving extra strength to the project but also for aesthetic reasons. What is your opinion? 2. Also I think that it would be better to use 1 mm vegetables leather for the decorative parts of the bag. 3. Last question, the leather tends to change his dimension slightly (shrinking) after dying. Is it not better to onch hols after dying? Thanks in advance for your answer.
Hi! You can definitely proceed as described in part 1 but it's been a long time since we made the bag and it still holds up great. I think the stiffness of the leather matters more than thickness so if you can't find stiff leather then your method would be the next best thing. Regarding the decorations I think that thinner leather would be easier to work with even though I'd argue that thicker leather would be better suited for them. Vegetable tanned leather is fairly elastic even it's thick so I don't think you need to worry about it shrinking after dyeing it. You could condition it alternatively and I'd recommend using some Neatsfoot Oil if you plan to do some heavy dyeing.
Thank you! The accessories were bought from a local store but they're actually produced in Italy. The retailer won't disclose his provider but if your Italian is better than mine, you might have a better chance finding them. accesorii-design.ro/products/5-buc-inel-d-marimea-25-mm-culoare-rame-nero
Awesome backpack-I'm making mine to double as a sissy bar bag on my Harley! Question, I'm no a total novice with leather working, but I noticed you did two types of stitching one that looks to skip a space between stitches and one that is continuous? I'm done that with two needles on my leather work, but I can't see from the videos how you are doing it. Looks to be one needle. Can you tell me how you are doing those stitches? Thanks! BYW I blew up you pattern I got from you to slightly larger size for the bike using an online poster site! Got the parts cut, getting ready to stain. Great pattern! Great design!
Thank you! We're using two needles all over but it may not be visible everywhere. I'm very glad you were able to enlarge it and I'd really like to see it when it's done. We have a Facebook group for which you'll find a link in one of the files attached if you'd like to join and post. That's also where you can see more backpacks already made by other people in case you're looking for inspiration or help.
After seeing one o these i would not settle for anything else. The amounts she asks for is very low when you consider the time involved. Very inspiriting.
Thank you for this video on showing the level of difficulty on this project. I have a few things to ask about it. 1st. Does this kit come cut and punched out already? Or is that part of the work doing those parts too. 2nd. Do we get to choose the color of the waxed thread? And 3rd. Some of the music ( even though you showed it ) sounded like it was right out of the old Skool Diablo PC game. Please and thank you, honestly only the 1st one is important to me.
We wouldn't want to take away any of the fun so you would have to put in all the work and possess all the tools and materials required. We only provide a PDF pattern that needs to be printed and used create the constituent pieces. The Tristam ost started playing in my head since reading your third question. Guess I'm off to listening some good music once more :). Also thanks!
@@LeatherHubPatterns ok, that’s not going to work for me. I can’t punch out the holes or cut the leather. I guess I’m stuck with the other company that sells some of these patterns cut out and punched. All done with a laser cutter. I’m on my 3rd face hugger mask now. I really wanted to try making several of your items, but I’ll have to miss out on them. Thanks anyway. Hope your weekend is good. Thank you for your time.
@@LeatherHubPatterns I’ll have to find the package and look. Why? Is it someone that is not allowed to sell these things from your videos? Cause they told me to watch the videos to help me put the face hugger masks together. I don’t have any leather working stores near me at all and I can’t find the parts anywhere either, and these people had everything as a kit with the parts needed to make what you ordered. Along with thread and the stain.
@@imnotreallyhere818 I encourage selling the finished product but not a kit or some other reproduction of my work. I also can't offer guidance for such a product about which I don't know much.
Quick question. In the video it says you used a 3oz piece but in the pattern instructions it says to use a 5/6 oz piece. Which would you say woks better? I am having a hard time punching the holes out. Is it because the leather I am using is thicker than the one in the video?
@@LeatherHubPatterns ok thanks I'll give it a try. If I still have a hard time I'll try asking the FB group for some advice. This is my first time working with leather. :)

One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in leather.
That is the MOST wickedly awesome bag/backpack I’ve ever seen! Great pattern and amazing workmanship!
This is a crazy-good item - would be a perfect costume accessory at Halloween. It could double as your treat bag as well! Well done,

It's water which makes the leather bend easier
