    This backpack is big enough to fit a laptop and it a nice casual backpack with high versatility.
    It isn’t a hard project it will just take some time since the backpack is quite big. You will need the most basic leather working tools: (something to cut, a hollow punch, needles, thread and not much else ).
    DIMENSIONS:
    40/30/12cm or 15,8/11,8/4,7 inch
    MATERIALS:
    1 sqm of oil-tanned leather 2.4-2.6 mm
    0.3 sqm for the contrast leather
    4-4.5 mm veg-tan (be sure to have the length for the straps)
    ACCESSORIES:
    Roling buckles: 1 x 20mm, 4 x 25 mm
    D-Rings: 2 x 25mm
    1mm waxed thread
    Fenice's edge paint
    Hello, we are Vasile and Pavel and today we are going to make this backpack.
    After checking the calibration page, start by cutting the dashed line where the pages combine. Combine the papers using the corresponding letter and number which will come in pairs. Using the combined patterns, split the leather into smaller parts which are easier to work with.
    Using a big hollow punch I am making some holes to help with taping the pattern to the leather. When I know I will punch many holes I like to tie the punch to my hand, this will mitigate most of the tension in the hand.
    Another neat trick especially while punching through paper or glue is to use a cheap paraffin candle to lubricate the tip.
    Always use a metal ruler, never a plastic one because the blade can easily go up on the plastic and then on your hand.
    Finish the main leather parts if you are doing like me, using two types of leather and then the other ones.
    If you are using an edge paint or burnish the edges, do it now, before stitching. I am using Fenice’s Edge paint but other brands of similar quality are around.
    I applied some glue to the leather before, so after I put the buckle and the loop they will remain in position for stitching. I will stitch the lateral piece to the frontal pocket now.
    Now the cover of the bag and the closing strap. This type of stitching is done with only one needle.
    Now the buckle. It is also smart to help the leather to bend to your will, before stitching, it will look better and be easier to stitch.
    Stitch the pocket to the frontal piece. Buckle parts now.
    I am using the markings from the pattern but punch the holes through both layers of leather to save some time.
    Now it is time for what I call “ The flaps ”. This is optional, only if you use two kinds of leathers like I am.
    I hope you enjoyed our video!

      it depends. If you have a 3-2-3.6mm firm contrast leather, you can use it as it is. If you don't have it, you can line to obtain the same consistency. I line a lot because in this way I can control better the consistency.

    I was looking and looking, I knew I saved your video, but had to skim through a bunch. I was trying to find that guy that punched all his holes with a hole punch, instead of using a pricking fork. And now I found it. I am giving up on the those forks, cause the holes are so small, and I end up using needle nose pliers to pull the needle and thread through the holes. And if I am stacking patterns, and punching through 3 layers, the holes always end up jagged and not matched. I think your method is the best, as the holes are well defined and clean, and using patterns insures the stitching will look excellent. Just my two cents, I'm an amateur working my way up to becoming more professional. Thanks for the video.

    • @pavelvasilache6111
      @pavelvasilache6111 3 года назад

      Buy, wuta 1.5 mm hollow punch, use a 1mm polyester thread to stitch, If you are US there are some at 0.92 mm from Maine thread company, its expensive but awesome thread. While punching holes always use a compass or some tool to mark a line from the edge and while placing the tip of the punch look to keep it in the middle of the line. Use leather with some kind of rigidity to it and it will be a good start.

      it's better to use a 1.5mm round punch with 1mm waxwed thread. You can use 2mm round punch with 1.2mm waxed thread but you have to know that almost all the patterns ask for 1.5mm round punch. Buy more than one punch and buy punches with long active part. They don;t have to be expensive punches, Wuta is perfect for the job and one punch is arround 7$

    • @VasileandPavel
      @VasileandPavel  2 года назад

      there are many answers to your question. My advice is to buy a set of esential tools, not many but they have to be good quality tools, otherwise they will make your life a hard one. You need a cutting tool (I use olfa cutters but there are many other good tools), metalic ruler, a good table with a cutting board (find one from industry), a good punching board (from industry), good round punches (or pricking irons) and you need to stitch, so you'll need thread and needles. About the leather... hmmm, I am lucky, i find in Bucharest all sorts of leather so I learned leathercraft on cheap leather, i hope you'll find something similar. And many-many tutorials, watch them and choose what suits you. And something very-very important: you can make mistakes, no one will blame you.

    • @VasileandPavel
      @VasileandPavel  3 года назад

      i m used to make holes with a single punch. Punching the holes for a project means a small procent of the work so if i'll use a tool with 5 punches, i;ll gain only a few minutes. And when i started leathercraft, i didn't find any other type of punches.

      Sinabroks make an excellent pricking iron, lots of different sizes and option, I believe you can get them up to 12 punches per iron, it would save considerable time and it’s easier to get a straight stitch

    Never skive the grain side of the leather. Always to flesh side.

    Just a tip guys, remove the background song and record the whole process in a quiet room. Also add “ASMR” to the title and you’ll get more views because there is a niche for like handmade stuff and ASMR.

    How do you do the straps? You never showed any of it and the pattern has extra pieces and is missing the flaps. Disappointed

      my table is not big enough for filming a long strap but they are on my pattern and they are simple. I made the flaps after i made the tutorial but they are not mandatory and thay are also simple to make. I'll make them, i'll modify the pattern and i'll sent it to you

    I feel like this the not the easiest way to do leather crafting. Actually you know what: I deem it as not the easiest way.
