I think what we're getting at is the arrival of the Erdtree is a "disparity" in the same way that flame brought disparity to the world of Dark Souls. It's a disparity between light and shadow that sees some with grace and others graceless. The area that would be in the shadow of the Erdtree is physically separated into another realm. We know that Miquella wished to be accepting of the graceless and nurtured their own tree, but the Haligtree didn't grow properly. I think Miquella then sought to purge the influence of Marika and the elder beings, transcending the Erdtree to overcome disparity, which they considered to be the "original sin". In DS2, the original sin is linking the fire to extend the age of gods. It seemed like Marika's sin in Elden Ring was the removal of destined death, but the *first* sin may be something that predates Marika.
There are a few key defensive items that reduce damage a LOT. Firstly is the Opaline Hardtear via the wondrous flask, big defense boost there. Next, boiled crab buff, using that every single attempt, I have about 500 crab at any given time and restock when I kill a boss. Talismans include the Ritual Shield, which gives me damage reduction while at full health to prevent one-shotting. I'm usually using at least one other defensive talisman like Dragon Shield or Flamedrake depending on the bosses' damage types. The ritual shield is tough to use for regular builds with plenty of health, but the Hardtear and Boiled Crab can be used with almost any build, and you'll notice a big difference in survival.
