I have both but the smaller of the two goes much better with C-3PO (75398) and I believe they are designed to go together. It now makes sense why Lego released this version as it had C-3PO in mind. It made me get this R2-D2 as well to go with C-3PO. Clever marketing Lego

Yeah they look pretty much perfect side by side, C-3PO turned out much better than I expected

Great review and I definitely agree with your takes, especially on the head shaping. I'm glad I passed on the older $200 version.

I have both, and certainly enjoy both. The Luke's lightsaber build on the large one is a very nice surprise, and for the larger scale certainly works for some collectors.

That’s fair, the lightsaber build does seem pretty cool.

I was sad the C-3PO wasn't to scale with the bigger R2D2

What other sets do you want me to review? I have...a backlog of sets.

The “wobly” printed R2D2 is an American isue I think. As in the Netherlands were I live I have about 12 of them by now and they are all correcly printed….

Oh interesting, I wonder if there’s something about the Mexico factory’s production process that’s different from elsewhere, as it’s pretty rare to get a perfect R2 print over here.

They put a highly desirable minifigure in their least desirable set. People will buy this set out of FOMO just for the minifig, and scalpers will buy and resell just the figure too. Scummy business practices Lego, I am very disappointed.

I agree that Lego sometimes pulls some shenanigans like claiming that Rex was going to be exclusive or including a really desirable minifig behind an expensive paywall of a set. For me that was the case with Darth Maul's Infiltrator. But to me, this R2 is a far better buy than the more expensive version so for anyone who likes this droid but didn't want the bigger model I think this is a great set--especially if you get it on sale or at Costco. I don't care so much about Malak, but for those that do, I feel for you because wow he's expensive on Bricklink.
