This is really really cool! I've had my 3D printer a while now and I've always thought about making a 3D printed wheel setup with pedals and shifter. This definitely works for the shifter! I would love to see similar videos for the wheel and pedals. Thanks for making an awesome video!

If you want to easily add a reverse, there's already a spring around the shifter; just add a gate next to the bottom right (the gate which corresponds to 1st) and have the entry point to the gate restricted to the height of the shift knob. Push down on the knob, push left all the way then push forwards.

Add a Button/Lever/Switch on the side of the Shifter and assign it a button pin, then bind it as Reverse. Additionally, I would use an Arduino micro instead, so you can program when the car is not engaged in a gear to be in Neutral, just like a real car would

This is absolutely the best diy RUclips channel, and I see that you now have a store nice.
So now that you have fanatec gear, do you think you'll ever make a video using the cheapest p1 fanatec wheel and modifying it using an adapter to use any wheel instead of having to buy a 300 universal hub. That would be awesome if you ever did that.

No. Using brass bolts. And a metal gate. And a bolt that has been rounded and tapered at the end of the threads on the gear shift for great tactile feedback and smooth gearshifts are going the extra mile. And I think the gate is probably to big. Cause if you plan to get a taller gear shift stick. The throw will be greatly exaggerated.

    hi, very nice !
Few years ago i have done a diy sim racing, and i think, there is one little thing missing on that H shifter ;)
I think is missing a return to center on the left right axis, to make the moves more realistics.
It, is not simple as a joystick.
I my case, I had to use two jaws, one on the left that pushes the stick to the right, but not greater than the center, and an other jaw at the right that pushes the stick to the left but not greater than the center.
Your locking system on the forward backward axis is really better that mine and in most of the other things.
Mine was done with wood, and "polymorph plastic" molded by hand.

If you want to add more for 7 gears and reverse just go to thingiverse and edit the original on there to add 2 more notches and just wire them to a controller. A keyboard controller can also be taken from a membrane keyboard and soldered to the switches. This will make the gear switches act like key strokes on a keyboard and would essentially make it easier to program the switches as to not interfere with you actual keyboard. If you do go this route, the shifter will not be recognized as a controller and be recognized as a second keyboard. Since the keyboard has many keys you use add more notches and switches to suite your needs. Since racing games dont really use that many key bindings it shouldn't be difficult to adjust them accordingly. Also the keyboard controller diagrams may differ from key board to keyboard so u should test it out by jumping a signal to the pins and figuring out which key strokes belong to which pins. It's a bit of a process but much more effective and adaptive than simply wiring it to a controller.

I forgot to mention this would only work for PC only. If you want it to work with a ps4/pc or xbox1/pc try wiring it to the respective controllers. It should still work.
