I was out there today. I'm serious when I say hat there were billions of bait fish out there. Literally as far as you could see in both directions. Never saw anything like it. The Mackerel and Tarpon were hammering them and the dolphin were hammering the Mackerel. Macks were easy.
What was your set up for rod and reel and type of line and weight? Thanks
Are the mackerel still there? I tried the skyway a few weeks back on some of the best weather and water conditions for them and they just didn't show up. Skyway not what it used to be. Great vid:)
The skyway has definitely been off this year, but DeSoto is still producing fish!
When was this and bout wat time man? Was out there few days ago and no macks. I love your catch and cook
This was on March 29th. The bite turned on at about 11:30 and last for about an hour and a half. Thanks for watching!
Kilo Kilos tide looks like is was pumping
how is fort desoto pier? is this the one within the park? any idea how fishing is this time of the year?
phino, this was at the gulf pier at Fort DeSoto park. The pier is pretty good for mackerel, although the water is very hot right now and the mackerel are running very small. The run will get better come late October through November.
Also what were you using for bait
I was using a size 0 clarkspoon. Thanks for watching!
Did you see any Bonita caught
Haven't seen any bonito yet, hopefully they'll show up soon.
Is there a point to letting them smack on the concrete?
There was a dolphin lurking around the pier, so I was trying to get my fish up and out of the water as soon as possible. I'm usually a little more gentle with them, but I really didn't want to fight with dolphins.
gulf or bay pier?
tfrbuck, this was at the gulf pier. I never seem to have much luck at the bay pier.
thx!
i think they are both getting overfished.
Is this in New Jersey?
Nope, this was at Fort DeSoto park in St. Petersburg, FL. Thank you for watching!
