  • On one level, the protests at Columbia should have been the easiest thing in the world to fix. All you needed was about 14 fire trucks and 28 fire hoses, all going full blast. The problem almost solves itself.
    But on another level, nothing can really be done. No amount of fire trucks, or riot police, or speeches by the Speaker of the House, or isolated expulsions, or stern letters to the Times, can address the actual problem, the problem we actually have. The actual problem is that the goddess of secularism has despaired of her project, and she has gone off to have her nails done somewhere. Somewhere else, anywhere else. The Enlightenment project, once so full of hope and promise, is now a sodden mess, like Voltaire’s birthday cake left out in the rain.
    The problem is a theological crisis, one created by the failure and collapse of the gods of the secular public square. This thing isn’t working anymore. The prayers are still said, the litanies are offered, the sacrifices are made, the smoke ascends, and yet the gods remain silent. They remain silent, of necessity, truth be told, because they aren’t there and never were. That was always the weak point in this particular theology.
    But it used to be that lots of people believed that they were there, and that was good enough . . . for a while. For a time.

      Excellent comment!
      There is a tendency, even in reasonable exegetical preaching, to sterilize the message with overly-technical assessments of the texts without really getting to the fundamental points of the texts with the intent of having it meaningfully convict and/or impact the hearer. It tries to stimulate by filling the time with sounding smart, rather than drawing the hearer to repentance and faith, or see how great God is. The lesson/sermon is trivialized to an academic exercise. This avoids confrontation, but it also evades the life changing power of God's Word. It's a guarded way to appear to do something without doing what's supposed to be done (reprove, rebuke, and exhort).

    I'm blown away. I just saw a man with a face speaking in my voice. And in the power of the Holy Ghost, no less. I've never seen anything like it in a public setting. How did this slip by the gatekeepers?
    But here's my problem: it's too late for corporate repentance. America (along with the world) has chosen hell, but we as individuals can still choose life. Jesus is who he says he is, and will sort us out in the end. In the meantime, evil will have it's day as foreshadowed in the prophetic narrative, until Christ himself destroys it by the splendor of his coming.

    Why can't we just get some fire trucks over there with hoses? It might be because there was no parking due to the secretly funded bus service running the protestors around. There goes that darn left again. I'm sure those buses - on call all day - are pretty cheap. When I was an engineer those when for about $15K a day, and today probably twice that. I'm sure it's just those college professors looking down from their offices all pitching in for that. Oh, and the off duty police officers. Those are cheap too. With food service and sanitation, I would have asked my management for $100K a day for project like that. Should be over a million total by now. And darn the luck, those conservatives over react again and pass legislation against the 1st amendment to counter the spontaneous, bake-sale funded million dollar protest.

I just don't see in the new testament any instruction toward overtaking the Roman government from within, though it is clear that we are part of a kingdom that is not if this world. a better argument directly from the text would help, I haven't seen a compelling one yet, there is precious little about secular government in the NT.

    Honestly, I don't think leadership or courage coupled with moral clarity or anything for that matter could have changed what technology was always going to do: corrupt/change incentives and worldviews.
    The grander we became with our devices and knowledge and "freedoms", the less likely we were going to look to a 2,000y old book for wisdom (collectively).
    We were always going to arrive at this place.

    • @scottb4579
      @scottb4579 Месяц назад

      Well, the incentives and worldviews of the people in Judea 2000 years ago were pretty corrupt without the tech. Just listen to Jesus verbally flay them alive in the gospels. Of course, their were still some who were godly people. But even earlier when God brought Israel into Canaan after 40 years in the wilderness, the people in that area were still rejecting God and scrificing children in idol ovens when they knew full well their was a living God who had wrought destruction in Egypt.

    I think there's more than one conversation going on here, pretty much at ALL times, along with infrequent equivocation.
    MUCH of the time, when DW is talking about "secularism" what I'm actually hearing is LIMITED GOVERNMENT. What Moscow calls secular, I call LIMITED. DW gets away with calling it "secular" because it is NOT functioning as a church. But in my view, it is limited specifically because it is NOT the Church. This round-and-round is the kind of conversation you have with people who don't have separate categories for the Church and the State.
    This is the point where the "Christ or Chaos" script is ran. But the script is exactly the same the Progressives are running, which as far as government goes, is designed to UN-limit it. Both seek MORE POWER for the State. These are, to put it simply, two forms of Statism in conflict.
    Now you can put "jesus" all over either one of them and the result is the same: a BIGGER, more POWERFUL, central government that claims divine authority to disregard the God-given rights of its citizens, should it see fit to do so. It's road back to Rome AT BEST. This game has been played a thousand times throughout history, with the arguments rarely deviating from what we hear from Moscow on a regular basis.
    The fact is, a nation of believers could be ruled by oligarchy, monarchy, and even dictatorship and find blessing and function successfully, more or less within the limitations of any number of political frameworks, and would certainly thrive as a culture. I would say that even applies to a constitutional republic such as our own.....in fact, I would argue that such a nation would END UP as a constitutional republic or something close to it, since Christianity has proper categories for Church and state, and places high value on a limited government that results in a free society of free citizens free to live their lives under the unmitigated authority of God in heaven, without a pope, priest, tax collector or prefect stepping in to deceive, mislead, molest, hinder, threaten, and enslave.
    Moscow seems to have forgotten the warning against kings (1 Sam. 8). Almost everyone here is going to vote the same, take the same stand for righteousness and oppose the same wickedness. For years, my question has been, WHAT EXACTLY does Moscow want from ME? As best I can tell, they want me to become a postmil theonomist. To do that, you have to argue from the book, not say 1000 things I already agree with, and then scold me for not believing them the "right way" because I am premil or amil.
    As strongly as I present my disagreements, this does not mean I have ill-will toward Moscow as a community or DW as a person. Nevertheless, this is so much like watching fascists, communists and socialists fight over how to make slaves of nations. People who love freedom don't want a bigger, stronger, state. They want a bigger, stronger CHURCH in a nation that tell the difference between who should be writing parking tickets and who should be talking to my kid about sex and theology.

    • @scottb4579
      @scottb4579 Месяц назад

    Go to Gaza City and spend some time with our Christian Brothers and Sisters in Christ, if you want to understand what it means to be threatened. Why were two unarmed Christian women shot by Israeli snipers while going to the toilet at their church in Gaza? Why were Christians killed while they were taking shelter at their 800-year-old church in Gaza City, when an IDF bomb hit beside their church? How many of their homes have been turned to rubble? How would you feel if armed drones were constantly flying overhead, while your food supply has been cut off? Why was Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu-Akieh shot by the IDF before October 7th? Why have these people been ignored by most Christians in the U.S. If the protests at Columbia are "antisemitic", why are there Jewish students involved in the protests trying to stop the war in Gaza? Why are many of those trying to stop the war in Gaza Jewish adults? Are the people living in Gaza "semites"? (Read Matt. 25:31-46, and Hebrews 13:20.)

    Why do we need to "Solve" a nonviolent sit-in protest against a &enocide? 4:33 What isn't going to survive all this is 30,000 Gazans. But you don't care about that because those women and children read the wrong book. And the tribe you worship can do no wrong.

    Do your ad hominems mean you have no good arguments? 60's protesters were also questioned about their patriotism, intelligence, outside influencers, etc. An illegal war in SE Asia was irrelevant.

    Doug I have to say I am disappointed somewhat in your take on what is happening on campus in this segment. I agree ultimately on the conclusions and remedy. American need repentance and faith towards Jesus Christ. Secularism has failed and that American idol along with some others must be torn down and crushed.
    Where I disagree is what I am seeing on campus. I don't accept the media's spin and take on the majority of these students. I don't accept there definition and terms of the argument. These protesters say they are not anti-Semitic nor do they hate Jews. Many of them are Jews. But that they are against the senseless killing of 35,000 innocent inhabitants mostly women and children in Gaza and how inhabitants are treated on the West Bank.
    They are not pro Hamas but pro Palestinian and against their subjugation. The media and our government paints them only as pro Hamas and anti-Semitic etc. Only because the dare call into question what Israel is doing.
    It's so lopsided that to criticize the state of Israel makes one anti-Semitic as in to criticize Biden's actions and policies make you un-American. Sure there are plants in the protest as there were on Jan 6th " we must go into the capital". The media only report on those agitators to support their narrative. Water cannons or Kent State violence is not a solution to free speech. No one has been attacked nor has violence been call for from the core of these Palestinian supporters. Violence has only been seen only from overzealous law enforcers.

      Provide the evidence.
      Do you understand that both individuals and countries have a RIGHT to defend themselves against unprovoked attacks? Do you understand what JIHAD is? Have you bothered to educate yourself about Islam? Have you read the Quran or any other Islamic "holy" texts?
      Do you understand that Israel was attacked FIRST?
      Do you understand any of that? Or do you just not give a rat's tail?

    I was so disappointed to see you sharing whiskey while teaching God's principles. This is so perplexing to me, why that was necessary. How did it glorify God and edify His church? I kept the video because I didn't think it was legitimate. But, it has separated many from you. If that was NOT whiskey, I apologize but friends of mine recognized the bottle.
