I found out a little bit of background information about David and Doris young. If you can look up the full text interview of Ron hartley, Lincoln County Sheriff office investigator during the Cokeville elementary school bombing incident, he’ll give you an idea on how completely crazy and messed up David was at the time. Look for Mark Junge Cokeville interview on September 22, 2010. I believe there’s an audio version of the transcript interview.

Agreed; he was one of a kind. I've also been enjoying the new UM over at Netflix. His presence certainly looms large; it was a wise move not to bother with a new host or narrator when you can't top Stack's legacy. And it's cool to see that connection with his image being used in the intro.

I don't know why they sidestepped the fact that in the Cokesville bombing, Doris Young wasn't killed by the explosion. David Young heard the blast, went in and saw that his wife was injured, and shot her dead before turning the gun on himself. This segment made it seem like she died in the explosion. He also shot a teacher, who survived.

They were saved by the quick actions of the firefighters and paramedics, coupled by the ironic good fortune of David Young insisting the children be kept far enough away from him. The fact the kids were kept away by the "magic circle" is what prevented any of them from being killed as none were that close to the bomb. It also helped that the bomb was defective. The idea of anyone bringing in a bomb or gun into any school and cause a mass fatality situation back then was unimaginable. It was still unfathomable when this episode aired originally in 1997 or was it 1998? But then the Jonesboro middle school and the Columbine High School shootings happened. Everything started to change. Suddenly the prospect of mass murder incidents in the nations schools was now a reality.

About the Cokeville Miracle, there some stuff that was left out, perhaps to streamline the story. The would-be bombers brought along their young daughter who, upon learning what they were doing, fled and warned the police. After the bomb went off, the guy-who is not worthy of being named-came into the room to find the children fleeing and his wife horribly wounded. He executed her with a shot to the head. Perhaps a mercy kill. Then the guy shot at a fleeing teacher, wounding him in the shoulder. The fiend shot himself. The teacher survived.

Praise God those children were saved! No doubt in my mind that the Holy Spirit led to the tape to keep the kids away from the bomb, and the opening of the windows. Awesome testimony!

Lynn's murder. I don't understand. Why give her such an assignment at her bank? Why would her bosses let her handle something of that importance? All knowing it might be dangerous?

Sources vary on the number of hostages, the reason for Doris triggering the bomb, the cause of her death, and the reason for David's firing from the police force.
