First time for me also tho I saw them a good many times and was privileged to meet them back stage a couple of times. They were also the inspiration for my daughter Corrie's name. Which they announced from the stage at Glasgow City Concert Hall and years later made her stand and take a bow at a concert in Canada
Lovely. You've got just everything to do with the Corries, don't you, mandolinda? Thank you so much for posting all these. Unbelievable songs. I wish I'd known of them forty years ago.
Twas in the month of sweet July Before the sun had pierced the sky 'Twas in between the rigs o' rye I heard two lovers talking. The lad said, Lassie I must away I have no longer time to stay But I've a word or two tae say , tae ye In your time tae tarry,
Nor your father of you he takes good care Your mother combs doon your yellow hair But your sisters say that ye'll get nae share If ye gang wi' me, a stranger. Let my faither fret let my mother frown My sisters words I do disown Tho' they were deid and below the ground I would go wi' ye, a stranger, But, lassie, lassie, your fortune's small And maybe it will be nane at all You're no a match for me at all Go waste your love on another, Noe the lassie's courage began to fail Her rosy cheeks they grew wan and pale And her tears came trickling doon like hail Or a heavy shower in summer, But he's taken his handkerchief linen fine He's dried her tears and he's kissed her eyen Saying, Lassie, lassie ye shall be mine? For I said it all to try ye. Now the laddie being of courage bold The lad scarce nineteen years old He's ranged the hills and the valleys over And he's ta'en his lassie wi him.
Bought CDs/DVDs to cover my Corries addiction! Thanks for posting. Love these folk songs. Thank! "the tears come tricklin doon like hail" how can that get better?
Endora ...It was sometime in the seventies I can't tell you exactly when. The first time was in Oshawa and the again in Scarborough Ont. Roy had bad asthma and didn't like the travelling so it was a one off I believe.
Laurie Edwards: The Corries toured many countries. Karen Williamson in her book "'Flower of Scotland'--Roy Williamson, My Father" describes their touring. The book is available from the Corries website: www.corries.com, and also from Amazon.
This is a really beautiful song of true love sung by two really beautiful voices.
What a truly beautiful song. One I haven't heard before.
Still another wonderful song; first time I've heard this one! Many thanks, mandolinda!

Jean Redpath had this on her album "Father Adam", but I can't find it RUclips.
@seorasmac I didn't know the Corries had ever done any shows outside Scotland. When did they play in Canada?
