Thanks to those who viewed. This video is for sure not my best one ever made, and is kind of filled with junk, but you can only get better, right?
Bought an old Craftsman mower. Add two bored country boys, and Amazon, and this is the result.
We upgraded the old 9” transaxle pulley to a 2” pulley, and the belt lost 5”.
After ONLY purchasing the 2” pulley new from Amazon, and the rest was what was laying around, a 43 ish” belt, here’s the result. That's the length of the belt stretched out, NOT the entire length of material.
The downside, it burns up the belt, so we’ll need to go down to a 41” or so belt in order for proper clutching and braking, without the belt being burnt up.
The battery does not hold a charge when jumping for the uninformed...
Got a new subscriber here! Doing stuff with mowers that they were never made to do is just fun!
Your telling me lol
Good vid just suggestion when u jump start something you should let it charge for a minute before you try and turn the engine over
Jeffrey Maneval His battery doesn’t hold a good charge, so it’s useless to try. We do usually let them charge.
Great video, will be trying it over at mowers and blowers outdone
Awesome video! You may be able to make some belt guards to help hold that belt on when the clutch is depressed. You also have a new sub! I love crap like this! 🦅🇺🇸😁👍
Obviously it’s been a while since you made this video, but I have this exact mower and have been searching on how to make it faster! This video is great, but I’m having a hard time figuring out what exactly you guys changed. Could you describe the process and maybe provide some parts you used? I’d love to get my mower running like this! Thank you man, you earned yourself a new subscribe 🎉
Only two things I remember changing were the pulley on the rear axle, and using a shorter belt - which we still haven’t determined a good size yet. Other than that, it’s the same setup as stock.
@@66Oliver do you remember any specs of the rear pulley?
@@holyhellfireonblitz5208 It was a 2” OD pulley, and same size diameter shaft as stock if I remember right.
Nice, was that 24mph on the standard engine pulley in the end as well? Thinking it'd be less likely to chew belts if you went to a bigger engine pulley and kept the rear pulley a bit bigger too, maybe 4 or 5". Either way, I know I wanna start playing with ratios on my new toy now (old MTD Lawn Flite from 1987-ish). Cheers lads, from the UK
Yeah, that was on just rear. If we ever get time, I’d swap the front too.
Looks like fun!
Haa! That's pretty funny stuff right there! lol!
For the belt size, do you mean diameter? I'm doing the same pulley swap on the same Craftsman mower but it doesnt seem like the drive belt would be that short
Joe Andersen I have forgotten honestly. I have messed with the old girl for a while, and haven’t bought a belt for about that time. HOWEVER, I do remember that it is measured, not at 40 some odd inches. It’s 85 I believe.
I’ll probably do the same swap on my JD116 w a 18hp swapped motor. It’s slow & want to utilize the other 15hp it’s got cuz it uses like 3hp all the time/not bogging at all.
Sorry for necroposting, but do y'all have problems where the transaxel wants to slip out of gear when you go to fast? It's the same mower with an automatic transaxel and every time I try to go faster than I'd say 10 MPH it acts like it goes out of gear until it hits lower speeds. Did you have any issues with this @Joe Andersen?
@@GetRekdHard you can’t use a hydro, it needs to be a 5 or 6 speed otherwise you will blow the hydro pump in the trans
Thanks for responding XD I blew the hydro trans up months ago haha
Put a brace across the back like how the hitch was on it, without it it will flex, torque out and blow it up
Make a belt tensioner to make the belt work
We might have to. The clutch is supposed to aid the tension when its engaged and spinning, but when its not, the belt just falls off. What I think needs to happen, is that we need to fabricate some little guards to keep the belt on there.
Got 67 mph out of mine 1 3/4 pully 🤣💪✌️
Ow can you have a 45 in.belt I got a LT 1000 Craftsman 3.5 on front and 9 on back
And the belt is 94 in.
Wouldn’t happen to have the link to the pulley would you I have the exact same mower about to do the Same thing
Not on hand, no. Not even sure if the seller would still be in business. It was through Amazon from what I remember.
Good drivers don’t need no brakes.
How big is the drive belt from front to back
Usdrifter 458 We’ve gone through multiple belts and haven’t found the perfect one yet. I believe we are in the range of 85”.
What vmax is now?
What if u left 2 inch pulley on the axle and put a bigger (say, 5 inch) pulley on the crank? You think it would still make enough torque to drive well?
It would not probably, and might need a stronger type of belt, but I bet it would go faster.
@@66Oliver ok cool cos i have the same mower as you and am planning on swapping both pulleys but im worried about how it would effect the torque. Guess ill find out
What is the whole pully and belt settup in inches?
We still have yet to determine a good belt size, but the pulley is 2”.
I have a tractor with a 15.5 engine can I make it go gaster ?
is that tractor hydrostatic or not btw do you know how to check if its hydrostatic?
This one is a six speed manual. Hyrdos will have a forward and reverse pedal, and they’ll whine like crazy, so it’s easy to distinguish.
When you shift it do you push in the clutch and change gears or do you just throw it into gear?
The current bet on this is loose enough to pop off sometimes when the clutch is pushed in, so we just bump shift it. If you can, clutch it.
So can you cut at that speed
Cool mate 😎
Anyone have a link for pulleys
I was your 999 subscriber
Awesome!
What speedometer app was that? And is it free?
Speed Box on iPhone and yes.
Lol I have this same mower passed down from my grandad
How did you get the rear pulley off
Mega destroyer man Heat, hammers, and a bit of grunt work. You just have to be careful not to bend the lips on the pulley if you ever plan on reusing the old pulley.
Can you send me the link you bought your pulley and belt from
I don’t have an exact link, but the Lilly was from Amazon, and the pulley was from the parts store.
Can you share the parts you used to swap? The belt and the Pulley? I just got my hands on a LT1000... 17HP... lol can you help me out?
Pulley can be purchased at any auto parts store, and it’s been a few years since the he bought the pulley, so I have no idea. Should be a 2” diameter pulley.
Do u have to have the transmission fan on it
We do not. If you’re moving that fast, I’d imagine the air flow is plenty enough to keep it cool.
Okay thank you so much
Where did you get the pulley?
Amazon. Don’t know the part number.
Yoo check this out right,
My name is also Tucker!!!
Kind of a more rare name I think, I had to rewind it twice to make sure I heard what I thought I heard
Make a great argument for it. You can still put the deck on and mower in like 1st gear.
I think we messed up the pulley for the deck. As well as the mower deck is seized.
@@66Oliver that would make it hard. I might have to think about this the next time I end up with one like this.
Como puedo hacer para que tenga mas velocidad
where did you buy the pulley
Blake Stone Friend got it on Amazon.
Makes me want to go outside and do that to my mower.
What’s the bore on the pulley
5/8”.
@@66Oliver thank you
I’d like to have my mower in proper running condition 1st before swapping out parts and trying to go faster, that’s just how I am
We've got it to where it just needs the charging system attended too. Even then, it's just a toy, so we don't really care.
Far enough
Also fyi it don't charge any faster or with anymore volts bro when you give it gas true story
The tractor that is charging it has a regulator. Unless that regulator fails, you are fine. Secondly, those batteries are made to be charged at 14V, all day. If they can’t handle a jumó that is down correctly, there is more wrong there.
You keep slapping the hood on the 420 it will break.
Nope. Those things are a LOT tougher than you’re imagining. Only time I see them crack is when they roll the machine.
Let it charge for 5 mins it might start😂
Battery doesn’t hold a charge bud.
@@66Oliver makes more sense haha nice build tho man!
@@sirsendit9770 Thanks.
Any body notice the John Deere oil filter
Remove the governor
We will eventually.
@@66Oliver my mower does about 50 mph but very twitchy
Please, for the love of God, stop panning and keep your camera still. I'm about to vomit. :-(
If you don’t like it, quit watching. Easy as that.
tooo much talking
How most RUclips videos are anymore… you want a cookie for pointing that out?
