In this video, we decided to explore Vinh City - birthplace of a former president Ho Chi Minh - and will show you all the things it has to offer 👀🇻🇳 I need to say it here: it was great fun spending our day among the locals and being a part of their local life! That’s crazy cheap. You have truly gone local. Thank you for introducing us to Vinh. VN has a large parallel economy that is not in its official economic statistics. This is why it’s people has high purchasing power even though it’s GDP per capita says otherwise,
We really loved strolling around the city 😍 The more local it got, the better for us to experience the local culture 🤌

8:35 Vietnamese usually wear long sleeves and long pants to cover from sunlight 😂 I think Vietnam has tropical sunshine, which damage the skin worse than Europe sunlights, which is more tolerable. And Vietnamese also often ride a motorbike by which enjoy the wind in the open air, by so dissipate body’s heat

Vietnamese people are also very friendly. Please don't worry,And Vietnam's pipe tobacco is so crazy that many foreigners fall to the ground and lose control. It's as strong as 2 cigarettes. You should consider it.

@@JayeshChhaya Yes it is the countryside but in the city it is not as noisy as Hanoi and Saigon and there are bars and clubs where you can relax and simple food.
when you come to vinh city, you must try eel soup, it's the best eel soup you can find in Vietnam

To Nghệ An and Hà Tĩnh, you should try eel soup and kẹo cu đơ( easy misunderstanding name, that is peanut candy on crunchy grilled paper rice)
From Lao, the shortest way to the sea is through Vinh city, so that there are many Laotian students in Vinh either many people from Vinh do business in Lao. Recently Lao changes its seaport to Vũng Áng, a place is about 150 km from Vinh to the south. Vietnam help Lao execute a seaport and her navy

Coming to Vinh city, you must try eel soup... Vinh is a city with a unique cuisine. You need a local to take you around the city to enjoy the food and culture ❤😋

Most of ppl in the central region of VN tend to love the salty taste. Don't be surprised if sometimes you see they're eating just the pure fish sauce with rice (100% fish sauce without mixing with anything). So, when you're eating the food in Hue, Vinh, Quang Ngai, Danang....All you need to do is adding some sugar, lemon, vinegar, garlic, water etc..to your food or fish sauce .....But always give yourself a taste first.

It really is!
This should show us that tipping is highly contextual, and that tipping is not always better than not tipping. There's always a chance it's awkwardly turned down, or worse, it's misconstrued by the recipient who feels demeaned by it. Btw, there's no tipping culture in Vietnam so this was expected... especially in a non-tourist town like Vinh.
For us as we continuously travel, we want to give to people more especially when they're kind and welcoming from the beginning :) I personally think that of you're having good intentions people would appreciate it!

In Vietnam there are two types of fish sauce, sweet and salty, and the banh cuon you eat is often dipped in sweet fish sauce.
I prefer other sauces myself but most of the people we saw were dipping Banh Cuon it in the fish sauce 😜
Yes, I think the first time you probably won't get used to it...I think the bun cha dipping sauce will be easier to eat...like the other videos, today's video is also really good, if you're still in Vinh, you should try it, eel vermicelli I think you'll like it.

36:08 This is called "Thuoc lao" which means "Vietnamese Tobacco". This is very strong tobacco with very very high nicotine. There are some foreign tourists's footage (can be searched youtube) tried this and completely get high immediately.
40:34 Haha this is actually "Blood sausage", it usually made by taking fresh pork's blood and mix with herbs then put in pork intestine and boiled. When you order it they will usually re-grill it and serve with some chillies lime salt peper sauce.

I have never understood the fascination of fish sauce. Hate the stuff!! I like fish (cod/haddock/plaice etc) but only if it doesnt smell "fishy"... and fish sauce is over powering (for me)

The most delicious food locations are hidden around city, from small restaurant or street vendor. You may randomly found a place have amazing food that you never forget. The next time come back, you may unlucky to find that location again.
And please be careful with that tobacco, it contains a very high amount of nicotine.

This place we called; Vinh
I wonder why some places don't have the minced garlic for their fish sauce. I think strong fish sauce definitely needs garlic to help balance it out a bit. Oft times, they'd have that on the table as well as lime/citrus so you can customize it a bit more for yourself. But banh cuon by itself is going to be bland. Most dishes in Vietnam that comes with a dip are bland unless you eat it with the dip. I would have taken a chunk of xoi and roll it into a little ball to dip into the thit kho (braised pork) then eat it. The flavor is in the sauce the pork was cooked in.
This is so true! We found that fish sauce might overpower the taste od the dish if you dip it too much!
@@JayeshChhaya Someone mentioned it could be pure, undiluted fish sauce, which some regions use vs diluting and flavoring it up. I'm Vietnamese, but straight up fish sauce is nasty (and most Vietnamese will agree)! My family uses it in the cooking or dilute it to make a dip/sauce. I don't think it's ever eaten straight up like that. Maybe add a bit to your soup or whatever at the table if the broth/dish is bland.

Why d fish sauce is fishy: lacking chopped garlic.
Sometimes the garlic was super strong and we added only a bit of it 😂 But you’re right! The sauce completely changes its taste with some of the 🧄 added
