    Lyrics:
When I hear the raindrops comin' down it makes me sad and blue
Was on a rainy night like this that Flo said we were through.
I told her how I loved her, and I begged her not to go
But another man had changed her mind so I said goodbye to Flo.
Alone within my cell tonight my heart is filled with fear
The only sound within the room is the falling of each tear.
I think about the thing I've done, I know it wasn't right
They'll bury Flo tomorrow, but they're hanging me tonight.
That night he came and took my Flo and headed in to town
I knew I had to find this man and try to gun him down
As I walked by a dim cafe and I looked through the door
I saw my Flo with her new love and I couldn't stand no more,
    I couldn't stand no more.
I took my pistol from my hip and with a trembling hand
I took the life of pretty Flo and that good for nothin' man
    That good for nothin' man!
I think about the thing I've done, I know it wasn't right
They'll bury Flo tomorrow, but they're hanging me tonight.

One of the greatest men I’ve ever met was my step-dad. Mother was evil, but Smitty was amazing. He loved me, I always knew this to be true. I was nine years old when he came into my life. I was 35 when he departed. The good news was mother (small “m” intended) died ten years earlier. Smitty loved story tellers and Marty Robbins was his favorite. In 1976, when I met Smitty, I was nine, and into KISS, Queen and Thin Lizzy. But I loved Elvis, the Beatles and Johnny Cash. But I’d never heard of Marty Robbins. Smitty had albums and 8-tracks of his music so I gave a listen to most of it but only really dug Marty Robbins. Great voice and stories. I miss Smitty.

It kills me the pain the final verses transmit. Beside the regret he feels for killing her, but more importantly - the sadness he feels for not being able to see her lowered in her grave. My Grandmother played Marty Robbins on her old coffin sized record player unit in her living room. My parents also played numerous artists such as him and others when I was a kid. Lots of 50s, 60 and 70s music. I grew up loving every genre of music and more today, through to Punk, Metal, Jazz and Funk. I had a great start with music. Fond memories. Awesome.

I remember the first time I heard this song. I was listening to this whole album after hearing big iron from fallout.
I love how this song tells the story In a unique way. It really has changed my thoughts about those who kill their ex lovers .
Around the same time I heard this song, my town had a murder incident where a man shot his girlfriend because he had cheated on him. He was eventually caught and convicted, but it’s weird to think of him as the guy in this song.
Everyone in my town sees him as the devil, but I feel empathy for the man in the song, who in a way is the man in my town.
I’m not sure what the lesson is, other than don’t cheat on your significant Others.
Hope you understand what I’m putting down, just an intriguing and great song.

I used to walk to my great grandmother's house all the time when I was little, (there was a trail from my house to hers) and she would always play Marty Robbins. her favorite song by him was The Master's Call. I loved her so much, I would always walk in and be like "boo!" and she would always say "Boo who?" she would always be sitting at her desk going through pictures, or reading something while listening to old-time songs. Gosh, My family used to have a band, I wasn't alive yet, but a couple of her brothers and my dad would all play guitar in the backyard and drink beer, and my dad actually started a band not too long ago. he sang covers in bars. occasionally his own songs too. "The Crawford Graham Band." You can actually find his videos on youtube! my dad is Ian, the bigish guy singing!
