Appreciate the honesty about the dangers of the technique.

That dog really wants to play!
I very nearly hurt a friend with Tani O about half a year ago. I started behind her, but as I went down she also turned to face me and her leg got entangled with mine. She didn't need a hospital stay, but I was told not to try it again.

Yea it’s one of those takedowns that can go wrong really quickly. Hence why we train the often and smart.

good techniques and teaching and a cute dog haha.
what are the situations where you would do one over the other ? since they're both pulling the opponent backwards I assume you'd do them with the opponent's weight/momentum in the same position.

I feel like the Tai Otoshi is more “snappy” but you can also get stuck if you opponent has an extremely strong base. Tani Otoshi has the feeling of disappearing under your opponent. I feel it’s the higher percentage, but you need to have good movement to set it up and hips to get on top.

Yes, we allow him on the mat, but those mats are cleaned, disinfected, etc. multiple times a day.
