  • Ukraine is filing charges against Russia for war crimes - against the environment. Much of Ukraine’s countryside and wildlife has been decimated in the war and the Ukrainians say some of this has been deliberate. It’s a new departure in the use of international law.

    Absolutely true. Sad that this is only highlighted when political opportunism has the most chances to give results (COP) and not because they really think it is a problem.

    What about uranium shells and cluster munitions. Is there any record how many million shells Ukraine fired into Ukraine

    • @rocksmo3384
      @rocksmo3384 7 месяцев назад +1

      Most Uranium shells are fired by Russia since day one. Their T-80BV uses depleted Uranium shells as Standard and since 2018, Russian T-72 and T-90 tanks are firing those as well. Ukraine only received DU shells for the Abrams tanks which have not seen combat yet.

    another, not secondary, reason to prevent that from dragging out by being behind Ukraine and Ukrainians to get their full control of their territory back. Only that can prevent further ecocide - on Ukrainian land, with not unlikely impacts far beyond -> ZNPP.

    Call me crazy but i wonder if there would be any benefits (long term) from the dam being gone. Maybe im way off on this but i thought it was generally agreed that disrupting the natural flow of a river is not good for the environment.

      You are off. This dam was not just for fun, some electricity, and flood prevention. It was also a vital water source for the region, drinking water. Also its a bit like arguing that the original world trade center was bad for the New York skyline. Even if you want it gone, the massive devastation and loss of life is unacceptable.

    • @rodrigofaria4498
      @rodrigofaria4498 7 месяцев назад +2

      I see where you're coming from, but the damage caused by the original obstruction of the river was most likely already overcome by nature. Destroying it won't restore the original landscape status bc infrastructure had already been built in the previously (and again now) flooded areas. And most likely Ukraine will want to have that space again in the future, which means rebuilding the dam and flooding the upper plains again.

      "Negotiations". Russia is basically asking for Ukraine surrender unconditionally. Telling them to demilitarize completely and accept all occupied territory as part of Russia. And all that AFTER the discovery of hundreds and hundreds of executed ukrainian civilians. They are still abducting ukrainian children as we speak and change their names to ensure they will never be reunited with their families and force ukrainian POWs to fight their own countrymen. Russia has always wanted to resolve the issue peacefully. The result of the beginning also lies on the conscience of Ukraine, because they warned that it was not worth joining NATO. These are the consequences of their policy, when they began to infringe on the rights of the peaceful Russian-speaking population. Now Russia will not retreat and will achieve victory. But already on Russia’s terms. Western countries do not even have the moral right to condemn Russia’s actions, since it is aimed at defense and Russia does not need bases near its borders. The majority of the intelligent population of the world understands this and therefore they are for Russia. Look also at how the Russian army operates without affecting the civilian population. Ukraine has killed more civilians since 2014.
