Hey man, dod you notice at 3:00 when you changed the codec to HEVC your colour space changed to REC 709 from HLG 2020. Wondering if this will affect the final file ?
@@ImLeeLoi hey man, but the original preset you have chosen won’t allow you to add HLG option, it will only allow you to add (Rec 2020) which I am not sure if it will contain the HDR metadata 🤔🤔
@@MostlyWalking Ah my apologies, you need to change colour profile to 10 bit colour and the HLG will be shown. Also my video example is uploaded to the channel and you can watch it on any compatible HDR device it's the iPhone 12 camera test and I did it with those export settings.

Ah I tried it on my phone and got HDR, must be the browser I’m currently using on my computer. It looks great, well done. The sparring with the fallen leaves was pretty. Nice bright highlights. 👍
Thank you for sharing. I would like to ask you a question. I want to upload an HDR video to RUclips, 30 minutes long. The master file exceeds 150G, and the Apple format(hevc 10bits) export is about 8G, but there is some loss in image quality. Is there any other way to export HDR video and upload it to RUclips?
You'll have to mess with the bit rate to fit in what RUclips allows unfortunately and there will be quality sacrifice. If your exporting at a lower bit rate consider a lower resolution so if your at 4K consider jumping down to 2K.
Good video - just watched it and used the settings. BUT the interesting thing is your video is not tagged as 4K HDR by RUclips - did you upload this as an HDR video? I am only 1 hour in, and have not seen it on my upload either. Perhaps I need to wait for two days?
Hey Colin, the video that is HDR isn't this tutorial but it's the iPhone 12 Video Camera review video I did. That should be HDR and the settings I show in the tutorial is what outputs that video. :)
Thank you for making this video. I'm glad I read the pinned comment and made the correction to a couple of points in the video! In your opinion is shooting in HLG really worth it over Slog3 or other log footage? What formate is better to capture HLG or Log or it doesn't make any difference at the end? Cheers!
So my most recent MacBook Pro videos have been captured in S-Log 3 which I think worked well for HDR. I haven't tried HLG on the Sony A7S because I don't have a new one, only the II which doesn't have HLG so the only benefit there is if the HLG setting captures it in rec 2020 instead of rec 709 but that's doubtful so may as well use S-Log 3.
What if you want to save a frame? I've noticed when saving a frame or taking a screenshot of the footage, the actual frame gets saved in a different color space even though the project is set to Wide Gamut HLG. There doesn't seem to be an option to save the frame in a different color space other than "HLG PQ" which results in the saved frame looking blown out
Do you export your frames from Final Cut Pro? I never had an issue doing it that way by going to share and then adding a custom share setting of an image.
@@ImLeeLoi Yes however when I select share then "save current frame" there isn't an option to select a color space setting, although I just changed my project color space setting back and forth and it seems to work, but when the image lands on my desktop it's still blown out....idk
Hi! I tried a 10 minute video in HDR from iPhone 12 Pro. I have final cut. The video was 85GB. Will the compressor reduce that drastically or am I dreaming? Also, when I exported it and played it back on QuickTime the audio was normal but the video was in slow motion. Any tips?
Woah, 85GB is a lot. What bit-rate did you go for? Be sure to check out my compressor settings section. :) As long as your Mac is HEVC playback compatible which it sounds like it is since you edited there just make sure you export properly.
@@ImLeeLoi crazy right. I bought the compressor from Final Cut Pro and did follow your settings. Now everything works fine. The file went from 85GB to 9GB. That’s insane! Definitely worth the $50. Thank you!

That was my mistake, after you change codec change it back to HLG 2020, that was my mistake. I didn't notice the codec changed it.

Glad to have helped. Go forth and make HDR videos.
Still 99.9% new to Final Cut but I feel like this will help when I reach a relevant point. Thanks :)
Glad to here it! Add it to your Likes library on RUclips and it'll be there when you need it. Thanks for the support! :)

Compressed codecs cause havoc with banding. There are methods to removing it and RUclips has tutorials!
